Oh My! I haven’t seen these yet but I LOVE Auntie Aunt’s! I will be on the look out for sure!
This is kind of funny since I just made home made pretzels last night for the first time. I had no idea that they sold these kits but I probably would have bought one but I can’t say I would now since its really easy… but I have also stopped a lot of boxed foods habits like bisquick and rice a roni type foods. They taste SO much better from scratch and are typically cheaper with out having to use coupons.
Is there a recipe online? I have bought these boxes before, we liked them 🙂 but I would love to make it from scratch instead!
~Dissolve 1 packet of yeast (about 2 1/2 tsp) with 1tsp of sugar in 1 1/2c of warm not hot water. Set aside for about 10min to let the yeast activate.
~ In a large bowl combine 4 cups of all purpose flour, 1/3c sugar, 1 1/2tsp salt. Form a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast water mix and 1 Tbs of vegetable oil. I mixed everything by hand but you can do it with a dough hook in a stand mixer. If the dough seems too sticky add flour by the Tablespoon until it seems right if it seems to dry add water by the Tablespoon…
~ Grease a bowl that is big enough to allow the dough to double in size while rising, place dough in it and cover with plastic wrap and let stand in a warm place about an hour or until its doubled.
~ In a baking dish dissolve 1/2c baking soda with 4c hot water. Preheat oven to 425*. Grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
~ Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and divide into 8-12 equal pieces. Roll each out into long sticks and shape into the pretzel shape. Just to give a visual I had 8 pieces and rolled each stick about 18″ and they were about 1/2″ in diameter.
~ Dip each pretzel in the baking soda solution and place on baking sheet. Allow at least an inch between each pretzel. Sprinkle either kosher salt or sea salt on top of the pretzels and bake for 8-10min until overall golden brown.
I had to do them in a few batches because I have a small baking sheet. They were soo soft and yummy hot out of the oven.
I can say I have made these before and they taste just like the ones you buy at Auntie Anne’s….. I worked there as a teen, my kids were quite surprised at my pretzel making skills that I still had 🙂
I too have tried them and LOVE THEM!
L-O-V-E these! The kit comes with pretzel salt and cinnamon sugar so you can get your sweet/salty fix! They also make fabulous pretzel dogs!
We just made these last weekend and like a previous poster said…they taste just like Auntie Anne’s. We had pretzel sticks because I could not master the pretzel rolling/twisting technique. lol
Anyone know if they sell these at the Neighborhood Markets?
I would like to find the apple cinnamon ones -I saw a recipe for monkey bread with the kit on the Auntie Ann’ s website. So tempted. Pretzels are not too difficult from scratch I have made them. I agree getting that twisting thing down is beyond me but disfigured or not they still taste the same 😉 Guess I could try monkey bread from scratch too but the kits look so much better 🙂
(Could not find the coupon until I sorted by food)
Where do you buy these Kits?
