Giveaway: 5 Readers Each Win MagicJack PLUS Unit w/ Free Year of Service ($69.99+ Value!)

The links in the post below may be affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

As promised in my earlier post today entitled “A Few Ways to Save On Phone Service,” here’s your chance to win some great prizes from MagicJack!

If your cell phone does not offer reliable reception inside your home or you are simply looking for an affordable option for a home phone, then you’ll definitely want to check out MagicJack! For as little as $20 per year, MagicJack VocalTec allows customers to access its servers, features and functions through multiple devices and platforms like the MagicJack PLUS. How sweet is that?!

The MagicJack PLUS is a VoIP device that allows consumers to make crystal clear phone calls to any US, Canadian or MagicJack number from anywhere in the world for free (yep, free!). The lightweight device only needs to be plugged into a modem and a phone to be functional – no computer is required! This makes it possible to take the PLUS anywhere so your home phone number can go along with you on your travels. Available at many retailers nationwide, the PLUS is sold for $69.95 plus the first year of service is included with purchase of the device; additional years can be purchased for just $29.95 per year.

On a side note, my own mom has had her MagicJack device for several years now and absolutely loves it! She lives in a rural area with no cell service and very few home phone options so MagicJack has been a life saver for her (and for me as well since we talk on a daily basis! :D).

Thanks to MagicJack, 5 lucky Hip2Save readers will each win a MagicJack PLUS Unit complete with a Free Year of Service ($69.99+ value)!

(Thanks, MagicJack!)

I live in a city but on a deadzone street and my cell phone kept dropping calls. I bought the verizon network extender. It was $250, so a pretty expensive upfront cost, but has no additional fees and it gives perfect cell phone service inside my house. 3 calls can be connected at once and it leaves a line open for 911. I love it! It uses your internet connect so if the inernet connection was out or slow, it went out or broke up your calls a bit. But our internet service is reliable and we only had problems once during a major snow storm when the cable was out for an hour or so. It is another option, especially if you were like me and working from home, getting a lot of calls on your cell.

My husband has the Magic Jack Plus to call stateside while stationed in Korea with the Air Force. Has been great to have a local number to call him and talk while he is gone!

  • april says:

I had MagicJack for 2 years. Very bad connection. I wouldn’t try to replace any cell phone service or ground line with M.J.
I finally got rid off it, when the provider tried to increase price.

We had the magic jack for a year, but it killed our computer when we set it up. When renewal came, we had to connect it to the computer again, so we chose not to renew. We didn’t want another computer to crash.

We recently got rid of our landline–it was only rigning with telemarketers and wrong numbers. Do not miss it at all–Here is what we use and others that we have tried.
Use http://www.google.com/voice GOOGLE VOICE (free) for home service
Use http://www.obihai.com OBIHAI device (Obi110) in conjunction with google voice
as you use it with a regular phone, rings on your handset and with OBI the computer
does not need to be on all the time!
If you have one of the big boys for cell phone then you need to seriously
check out http://ting.com (uses Sprints Natiowide Network) your only charged
what you use as low as $6 bucks a month (see site for details) NO CONTRACT
    and CANCEL ANYTIME
Another company with NO CONTRACT is http://www.republicwireless.com (Republic Wireless) $19 bucks a month UNLIMITED ( a diffrent concept relying on you to use your
WIFI when at home and in areas that have wireless connections. When not near a
wireless connection it connects like a regular cell phone call. UP and coming
company. You do have to buy their individual handset!

Not related to Phone service but a really new concept just happening in internet
usage is http://www.yourkarma.com (you earn your monthly time sharing your wifi)
    check it out.

    • JB says:

Forgot to mention–we have also used Magic Jack–the original Jack however. It was OK but nothing to write home about. Quality was just not their–worked sometimes and sometimes not. I understand they have quite improved the NEW Magic Jack. We would
consider giving them another try but right now Google Voice is free–plus you can text for free as well !!!
