Target: 70% Off Toy Clearance

As I have mentioned previously on Hip2Save, Target hosts a Toy Clearance event twice a year – usually in January and July – where select toys and possibly other items are marked up to 70% off!  Over the last day or so, I’ve received quite a few emails now that Target has finally reduced their toys up to 70% Off! Although clearance bargains vary greatly by region, here are a few bargains you may want to keep an eye out for…

Check out the emails that I received from readers, Amber and Angela…

Today at Target I found a Thomas’ Treasure Hunt Adventure Take and Play set marked down 70% to $8.01 (retail price on Target.com= $26.99). The set did not have a red clearance tag on it, but there was a clearance tag on the shelf. My son loves Thomas, and I was excited to find a great Christmas gift for him at such a low price!

I went to Target this morning to find a 70% off toy clearance event. They are marking down most of the toys for the fall toys to come in. I landed $130.00 in toys for only $45.00. When I asked the nice guy who was working he told me that it was an all day event. Once they scanned the toy the new price would be in the system. I guess the best thing is to go and find some toys you are interested and ask a worker for a scan. Good Luck!

Note that I’ve heard from a lot of you that there is not a dedicated aisle for these Clearance toys as they’ve done in the past, so be sure to check the regular aisles for the red Clearance signs/tags…and be sure to price check!

All the toy clearance was at 70% off today. I picked up a few things for my niece and nephew for xmas gifts. Well, when I got home, my s/o says “the gifts I give aren’t what these kids want so I’m just wasting my time!”. I reminded him that I’m NOT their parents; mom and dad get them what they WANT. Plus the toys were nice, IMO: Uno Robato, Nano Race car with race tracks (it supposable goes extremely fast) and a Dora the Explorer play set stage.

Back to the store these go!! I’m so bummed b/c I’ve realized that these kids (including my s/o) are so ungrateful. Last xmas, I gave my nephew a football, nano football, basketball and a backpack filled w/ school supplies. He gave away many of his school supplies to other kids (family and friends), saying “I don’t want it”. I was extremely mad when I found out; he comes from a low income family and his dad doesn’t budget money well. I was doing my nephew (and his parents) a huge favor! ((sorry guys. had to vent. lol))

Hi Holly! Maybe try talking to your nephew or his parents about showing appreciation. Kids often act on impulse & they need to be taught to be grateful (or at least taught that gratefulness is expected when receiving gifts). Also, if your nephew doesn’t get nice things often, giving them away may have been his way of showing other kids that he has enough to give away. You know, a little showing off because he can afford to this time… 🙂 I teach in a low income area and I see children do that sometimes. I hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks Jen. Actually, the ungratefulness seems to run in my in-laws. There are 11 children collectively.

I know it’s on the parents and how they have chosen to raise them. My niece acts very rotten. Whenever we all go out, I notice her parents will buy whatever she wants to avoid a tantrum. But majority of the parents who have many kids (ie: my father in law has 4 kids and 3 step kids. And 2 adult kids who don’t live with him), don’t have time for all the kids. So those kids seem to raise themselves.

All I can say is wow. I am sorry!

Wow….I was seriously sad reading this…! Not all kids realize the goodness behind things. I have two younger brother just like that and it use to hurt my feelings a lot. My family is a lower income family and I use sites like this one to help budget. After the few incidents I had with my brothers I stopped giving them gifts until they realized the importance of money. Shortly after they learned I give them gifts from the heart.

I can really relate Monique. This year has been the year I plan to stop giving gifts to the ungrateful ones. But I’m naturally a giving person. So I’m really fighting the urge the give. The sad thing is, if I’m invited to those kids bday parties, I may have to make up a lie not to attend. lol

But for xmas, if I’m invited to a party, I had planned to give the kids big bag/box of candies per kid (theater boxed candy, ring pops, king size candies, Lucas, etc.). I have a feeling that my s/o will say something negative about my idea.

I just took my two kids to a birthday party on Sunday and we gave the girl a really nice journal that my own kids would have loved to have worth $15 and an aeropostale t-shirt that my own daughters would have loved to have kept for themselves. We don’t have a lot of money and this was a big deal for us to give this 11 year old girl. (of course we got it all on great sales) Anyway this girl just looked at our gift and tossed it to the side. There was no ‘thank you’ said and the mother didn’t even intervene to thank us as well as she looked on. The girl was thanking everyone else at the party for gifts not even as nice as ours. I’ve decided from now on to be very selective who we give the good stuff to. Even though we get everything on clearance it’s still worth a lot to us!

I guess that’s why parents have gotten away from letting kids open gifts during the party. Wow! You’d think an eleven year old would have better manners! We also try to give gifts that our kids would like. After my son’s birthday party, I really don’t worry about how our gifts stack up anymore. He actually got gifts that came from the dollar store–this in a fairly wealthy area. Our favor bags cost more than some of his gifts (we did a Lego build).

Totally with you regarding cutting off the ungrateful ones, and it sounds like that is exactly what you are dealing with! However, as a parent, I do understand the other side, too–people loading up your kids with stuff that they won’t play with that ends up collecting dust. For example, my son is a huge Lego guy. You won’t go wrong with Legos. One relative spent lots of money over many years on complete junk that collected dust, when she could have spent much less on an inexpensive box of Legos that would have gotten much use (though he is always grateful for anything–even the stuff he doesn’t play with–and never wants to get rid of any of it, much to my chagrin!) I’d rather gift givers spend less (or give nothing at all!) than fill my house with stuff that isn’t used. And if it’s not, I need to be able to get rid of it without the giver getting angry. That said, it sounds like you are completely justified cutting these kids off. Avoid those bday gift grabs and spend the money on yourself at a movie or something. At Christmas, maybe take a nice family gift–fruit basket or something consumable–or perhaps make a donation in their names to a charity–tell em you’re cutting out the middle man! 😉

I went last night to Skokie, IL and got 17 items for $44.04, great plaoydo items, disney, etc. for a great price. Love this time of year, christmas shopping is almost done!

I scored some pretty sweet deals at my Target last night but unfortunately, the deals were only 50% off.

How is it looking in Boise/Meridian area?
