Twix Caramel Popcorn Recipe

Twix Caramel Popcorn

yield: 10 SERVINGS

Ingredients

  • 5 quarts (20 cups) plain air-popped popcorn
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 20-25 "fun size" Twix candy bars, chopped
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted-to drizzle over popcorn

Directions

1

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Place popcorn in a large bowl and set aside. (I didn't have a large enough bowl and used two.)

2

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir consistently while bringing to a boil. Then boil without stirring for 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla extract. Pour caramel evenly over popcorn, stirring to coat.

3

Place popcorn on two large shallow baking sheets and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, for about an hour. Remove popcorn from oven and let cool completely. (It was a little cumbersome trying to stir on a large baking sheet. Using a spatula in one hand and large oven mitt in the other helped keep the popcorn from flying everywhere.)

4

Mix in chopped Twix candy bars. Drizzle popcorn with melted chocolate. (Tip for meting chocolate chips in the microwave: Add a teaspoon or less of shortening and then microwave for 15 seconds at a time until it's all melted. The shortening helps keep it from getting all clumpy.)

5

Let the popcorn sit until chocolate hardens, about 30 minutes. Store at room temperature in an airtight container. (We couldn't wait and ate it right away, messy but so good.)

So basically this stuff is crazy good and super addicting!

If you have a sweet tooth, this is for you! It tastes like the pricey caramel corn mixes you’d get in a fancy gift basket, so this would be great to make for friends and family this holiday season. Enjoy!

Thanks for the great recipes. The only problem is the weight I’m going to gain from making and eating them all 😉

BTW – I like to use Old Dutch Puff Corn for my caramel corn (the recipe on the back of the bag is the best) as it eliminates the hard unpopped kernel risk. We’ve had a few broken crowns from those in the past…and that’s not fun or cheap.

Oh this sounds so yummy! I am afraid…No…I know… I would be picking out the slices of the Twix! 🙁

This looks and sounds delicious! My family is gluten-free so I’m going to try it with a different candy bar that we can eat and see how it goes. Maybe Snickers or Reese’s…

I tried the gingerbread twix tonight, twix are one of my favs, gingerbread ones were nasty…just a public service announcement:) this looks fantastic, and I will also have to make it GF for my 9 year old with celiac….and probably myself and one other child should go gluten free as well due to our constant servere GI issues, just avoiding diagnosis:) GF is hard! and mom isn’t a great trooper like 9 year old is

I’ve made this popcorn (minus the twix) for years. An easier way than putting the popcorn in the oven and stirring every 15 minutes is to put the popcorn in 2 brown paper bags. Microwave each bag for 30 seconds, remove the bag from the microwave and shake it. Repeat microwaving and shaking for a total of 4 times for each bag. Open the bags careful and spread the popcorn out to cool. Much easier clean up, too. Throw the bags out!
