help me out…how is a kindle fare different than an ipad?

  2. shoppingqueen007

Can anyone recommend this tablet? I really been wanting an ipad, but my husband is trying to talk me out of it because he doesn’t like Apple products in general. I also don’t want to spend the money for an ipad so this looks pretty appealing at the moment. Thoughts anyone?

Hi I just purchased the Kindle Fire 8.9 HD 2 weeks ago and I love it!. I do everything on it that you would a tablet lus I’m a big reader and no more shipping on books so saving alot there. I waited for great deal. Mine was on QVC for 249.98 the 8.9 plus 2 yrs tech support and easy pay of 5 months. you get the kindle right away the just bill your CC for 5 months so very easy for me to make the decision. Hope I helped

Forgot to say I was able to get the 32GB for that price

The decision is yours, of course, but here is my experience: I got a Kindle Fire about 3 weeks ago and had a lot of problems with it losing connection to the Internet. Amazon replaced it but still the same issue. I am going to try replacing my router (it’s about 2 years old) even though everything else, Apple & other products, connect just fine. That said, I really just wish I could have gotten an IPad. Even as I type this, I see that my Kindle has lost connection to the Internet. SMH

I have never experienced a loss of connection with my kindle but my iPhone has been doing it a lot lately. I reset my router and internet connection and it seems to be working better.

I love my Kindle Fire HDX. It’s fast, the picture quality is excellent and I’ve never had a problem with the Kindle. I’ve never lost the conection to the internet/WIFI. I can’t speak on the Ipad but the Kindle meets my needs. I got it for Christmas and I love it!

Are you able to print from the Kindle Fire?

    • Melissa

There are several apps that you can download for printing. I have a Kodak and have had to use the app on my iPhone too it works pretty well. Not sure what kinds of thing you’ve needed to print.

I bought my Kindle Fire HDX over Christmas and I got the iPad mini for my son. I wanted something that would be just mine. I missed reading. It had been years since I found the time to go to the library to get a book.

It was a little bit of a learning curve for me since I have Apple devices. However, it was easy to get the hang of and whenever I get stumped I hit the mayday button and get live help which is nice. (My son’s iPad should have that feature I always have to google solutions for parental controls etc.)

I subscribed to Prime and I think it is worth it. I get to use Amazon’s lending library, get to stream movies free, and you get to read a few books for free before they are sold to the public. There is also a free app of the day, but I use my kindle mostly for reading. I linked my library card to my kindle and wow it is so easy to borrow books and even audio books! If you link your account make sure you go in under settings and change the settings to 14 days the default is 7. You can check out the same book about 5 times.

My son is 7 I borrow the Magic Tree House books from our online library and we read them each night. I am so proud of our progress through the series. I always wanted to read with him more and this makes it so easy! I subscribed to the kindle free time which is great for kids. He has read several books on that and its a safe place for him to explore videos and apps. The apps featured in free time often cost more than the free time subscription for example Toca Hair Salon in the kindle store is $3.99 I pay $2.99 for the subscription to Freetime and play the full version of the game. There are parental control settings you can adjust so the kids read first then play.

My son and I went on a long flight the night before I rented several movies and downloaded them to the kindle. We watched them on the plane without wifi and without issues. Some of the movies included in the prime subscription can be downloaded for use like this. My son bought videos on his iPad and when we watched them we got several memory warnings and had to delete some apps.

When I rented the movie I got a free credit to download a song and I also tried audible for a month and got two free audio books!

My kindle battery seems longer than my son’s iPad, but not by much. I notice no difference in the web browser speed either. My kindle charges MUCH faster than the iPad though!

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your comments so far! Starting to lean towards this Kindle Fire HDX. The price isn’t too bad and I have some Staples rewards to use. I just wish it was the bigger screen. I’ll run it by my husband tonight but I’m about 90% sold 🙂

    • Melissa

You know I thought the screen would be a problem for me. I opted for the 7′ because of the price and to tell you the truth I don’t notice a difference. The picture quality is great and when I get sucked into a movie it doesn’t matter what you watch it on. I help this old lady run errands and stuff and she was a tv that is literally older than I am at first I used to think man look at all those pixels, but when a Lifetime move comes on with that crazy brown haired girl I can’t think about anything other than what’s happening.

When I went on the flight with my son I got a splitter for the audio and it worked well. There was a guy sitting next to us and he bought a set of headphones and he watched Despicable Me 2 with us and we all could see the screen just fine!

Forgot to add, it’s not a big deal for me, but the camera on the kindle fire does have a lot of editing features sitckers, color settings, etc the model I have ( the 7′ ) just has a forward facing camera. I found the pictures/videos to be just ok. The bigger kindles have a rear facing camera.

I have an iPhone and frequently assist my mom with her iPad. I got a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas. I LOVE IT! Way better than the iPad. I can read, play games and watch Prime videos Netflix. It has flash player unlike Apple products. Just an all around good product. Plus, the battery life is phenomenal. I charge it all night (it does take FOREVER to charge) and use it near constantly on certain days (I have a weird job)
and it won’t die for 12 hours. Just an all around good product.

My friend bought her husband one for Xmas and it came in not working. Amazon quickly and easily replaced it.

    • Melissa

The Kindle Fire HDX does not have flash player installed. In fact Adoble stopped supporting mobile devices about a year or two ago. There is a way to side load the flash player there are several sites that offer step by step, but you will also need to use Dolphin browser instead of Silk because silk does not support flash. Sideloading does not void the warranty on the Kindle, but if there is an issue Amazon can’t help you very much since it’s not thier program.
