Collin what age group are these books best for?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Jennifer!

I believed they are geared towards ages 2-5.

    • CO Mama

We’ve been reading them since birth & my 5yo still LOVES them!!!

    • Jennifer B

I have been reading these to my daughter since she was born (she is almost 5 months now). She LOVES them! I am also a teacher and have read them to children up to preschool age. They’re really fun books and I think they can work for a long range of ages. I hope this helps. 🙂

    • April

My son has had these since he was an infant but he’s 2 now and he will still occasionally ask me to read them. He loved them around age 1. Hope that helps. The little blue truck books are now his favorites!

    • Lana

Our grandson has loved since about 6 months. He is 18 mo now and Moo, Baa, La, La, La is his favorite. I think I read it 20 times in a row last time I babysat him. He looked rather pleased with himself that he got me to do it because his Mom and Dad tell him to go get another book!

    • Valerie

My boys are 3 and 5 and we’ve had these books since they were born. They still like to read them. I actually had to hide the dog one because I just didn’t want to bark anymore! 🙂 They are also helping my 5 year old learn to read because he knows the words and then he can sound them out.

    • Tilla Ham

for 5 year olds (we are book experts in this house) My kids love Dr. Seuss of course, the if you give a mouse a cookie books (there are maybe ten different ones or so and all are favorites when my kids were younger), Margaret Hillert is an excellent author for Kindergarten age. As soon as your children are in school, take advantage of the monthly book order forms, great prices and a huge selection for kids your age:)

Her book “Chocolate: the consuming passion” is one of my favorites, a great gift for any chocoholic!

  3. Jennifer B

These are great prices on amazingly awesome books! Seriously, Sandra Boynton books make my 4month old and I’s day brighter! We love them. I just wish these prices were on the few we don’t already own so that we could complete our collection! lol

  4. Nina

    Great books! Fantastic author.

  5. Emily

These books are the best! Really cute pictures and easy reads. Kids love them!!! Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaur is our favorite!

  6. Adrimom

With a Baa and a Moo and a Cocka doodle doo.. every promenade two by two…

Yep.. we read those books A LOT!!

  7. Trish

These make great shower gifts for expecting parents! We’ve had ours for many years… they are sturdy and fun. FYI you can sometimes find them cheap at TJMaxx as well – but like anything there it’s ‘hit or miss’

  8. Cassy

Thank you just ordered moo baa lalala for a baby shower gift 🙂 my daughter loves it!

  9. Ashley

We love the going to bed book and Doggies! I make a different sound for each Dog and my girls love it. They are 3 and 5 and still enjoy them although my 5 year old has mostly moved onto other books for bigger kids.

  10. Erin

We LOVE these books! The Belly Button book is cute too!

  11. Diana

We love her books too! Pretty good price for them. Also keep an eye out on Kohl’s Care deals they got them from time to time. But the ones at Kohl’s we got before was actually an awesome CD hardcover book for only $5! Awesome silly music based on her books!!! We got 3 of them and absolutely LOVES them!!! Our favorite one is ‘Philadelphia Chicken’… So much better to let the kids listen to them (Specially in the car looping gozillion times LOL) rather than the normal kids songs… at least to me they’re not as boring. Haha

  12. Michele

Thanks! We needed a few new books!

  13. Bobbi

I had all of the books that are on sale when my twins were young, and we loved them so much, they were torn up. Now I’m buying new ones for my youngest daughter. Thanks!

  14. Heidi

I have a question for all the moms out there.. So we have about 10 books of our own and I have started reading to my baby boy since he was in my belly but I get so tired of reading the same thing over and over so I started going to the library and got him lots of books to read (like 50) haha cause I get bored of reading the same book. He’s 6 months now and I’ve prob read like 100 different books to him. Now the question is should I buy these books for later when he starts to have preference? Should I stick with reading the same books to him? Will that make I’m learn words/languages faster? First time mom here so I just wanna hear what works for other moms =)

    • Em

I say stick to the library for now! When you find a book you really like or when he expresses interest in certain books buy them, until then the large free variety is great! Read him everything you can get your hands on, no need for repition. You’re doing great new momma!

    • Lana

I think it is good for children to have beloved books of their own. These books are some that I have seen our grandchildren look at and smile to themselves long before they can read because they know the stories. They can entertain themselves quietly in their beds as they are settling down for naps or wake up too early in the morning. I believe that repeats of favorite books just teach them to love books even more.

Our oldest son had a favorite book that we read to him every night for maybe two years. Now that he is in his thirties we hunted high and low for the book for his children. I think we pitched it because it was falling apart. It is now out of print so we had to buy one on ebay for his children. It is so fun to see our son read his favorite book to our grandchildren.

    • Kelli

Although it might be boring for you (ALL PARENTS feel that way!), you have to remember that language and story telling is still new to him. Repetition is how children learn. Change your voice to sound like characters, ask him questions (which one is green…), point out objects (blue kite, pink dress). That way he’s getting an extra dose of learning and you won’t be so bored. IMO, take advantage of your local library first before buying a whole bunch of books. Only get out as much as you can read over and over again in 2-3 weeks. Allow your son to chose the book he wants read at home and you will start to see preferences. That’s when you either check out the book again or you buy the book. Hth!

    • S

thanks to all for the input! =) he’s only 6 months right now so he doesn’t have a favorite book yet, so i guess I’ll stick to expose him to variety of words and sounds until he starts asking for specifics then I will make sure to buy them for him =)) thank you all again!! very helpful

      • Em

You’re doing very good, only 32% of male infants on average are read to frequently!

        • S

thank you so much!! I’m trying my best =) he’s doing so soo well on all his milestones so far but i CANNOT wait to be able to hear him talk, so i’m trying my best to do what i can to help him =P

          • Margie

You are doing a great job S. I’m a reading specialist for elementary students and you can’t even imagine the advantage you are giving your child over other children. If you want a good book full of information for you as a parent, try The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. It has incredible amounts of information (including resources) that I use as a parent and a teacher. Remember, the amount of vocabulary that your child will be exposed to will be so much greater through books than just through conversation.

Other things I do is teach differentiation between right/left, different parts of the body (more scientific terms), etc. When I put my little one’s sock on, I tell him which foot I am putting it on. I will say, “Give me your right foot” as I grab his foot when putting on his shoes. By the time my oldest was about 18 months, he could tell me the difference between right and left and other random things that many kids don’t learn until they are in school. Try to continue to use synonyms when you talk. Instead of saying “big” all of the time, use words like large, huge, enormous, etc. Vocabulary growth is greatest from birth to three years. You’re on the right track momma…keep it up.

            • S

Thank you so much for all the useful tips! This is exactly the type of information I was hoping to obtain. And I will def look into the book =)

    • Sarah

At some point your child will probably want you to read the same books over and over.

I think it’s good to own some favorites, but also keep using the library.

When my daughter was almost 2 she loved Moo, Baa, La La La so much that all I needed to do was recite it and she would calm down.

      • S

thank you I think I will check out all these books from the library to read to him first and if we both like them i will def buy =)

    • Tilla Ham

I am the book loving mama! My children are all excellent readers (4 kids) which has made them successful in school. You are doing great reading to him so young. I started in the womb, and reading books is a part of our daily lives. I firmly believe my kids wouldn’t be so successful if we didn’t start reading so young. My children love and I do mean love their books above all other things. We have books that we have read so many times that we’ve had to replace them because they are in tatters. My kids are now 20, 16, 14, and 9 and we have instilled a life long love of the written word. I say buy him as many books as you can. Whatever your budget will allow. Even still I buy all my kids a book a week, which gets very expensive when they start reading hard back novels in 2 hours:) Luckily they all have similar genre taste. If you can afford a book a week do it, if you can’t, go for one a month. My kids friends are all envious of our amazing library.

if you have teenagers, there is a great deal on The Fault in our Stars – 7.00 for the hardcover on Amazon, currently priced at 17 through scholastic! Great book and new movie based on the book is soon to be released (my middle school students love it and I can’t keep our one copy in our classroom library!)

  20. Stacie

Moo Baa La La La is a favorite around our house and of course we lost it months ago. Bought it!

  21. Sarah
  22. Diana

I got my sons going to bed book at a used book store for $1.

  23. Sarah H

My eldest just loved these books! Wonderful memories of hiking and quoting the Doggies book (with sounds)! When he was a teen, we met with the creative director of King Features and he had a large Boyton chick in his office. My son noticed and started quoting Doggies – impressed/humored him so much that he gave him an special goodie bag at the end of the tour

  24. Heather

Oh, how we loved these books when our kids were little! They are worth every penny.

  25. Karissa

We have a lot of Boynton board books and love them! They are cute, funny, and great for short attention spans. Blue Hat, Green Hat is hilarious!!

  26. Marjie

Our favorite is Hippos Go Berserk. I haven’t met a kid yet that didn’t think it was funny.

  27. Anmity

Costco always have these in sets and come to about $1.50/ book. Agree with everyone that these books are a lot of fun!
