Calling all you Amazon Prime members! Did you know that Amazon offers up Guaranteed Delivery for many items sold on Amazon.com (available on products that have a “Want it delivered . . .” message that display a delivery date and shipping option on the detail page)?

And if your item does indeed qualify for Guaranteed Delivery and it does not arrive on the promised delivery date, then you may be eligible for a free one-month Amazon Prime extension (free extensions are limited to one per free trial and twelve for an annual membership; free Amazon Student and Amazon Mom Prime Memberships do not qualify for this extension).

Have you ever taken advantage of this guarantee? If so, please share!

What is the process of notifying them that an item took longer for delivery? I’ve had items take 4-5 days instead of 2

    • katie

Sometimes I choose 2 day shipping, but the tiem won’t be available to ship for a week or so. It still usually arrives by the day the promise in the confirmation email. If it isn’t delivered by that time, call customer service. They have been super helpful when I have talked to them before!

  2. Sarah

No clue that this was an option. I could have used in in the past for late deliveries. Thanks for the info!

  3. Alice

I have taken advantage of this offer a few times especially around Xmas.

  4. Jamie

I have got an extension or 2 by doing a live chat with them. I refer to my e-mail’s that say “Your guaranteed delivery date is…”. If you don’t get it by that date then you can ask for a 1 months extension.

Problem for me right now is that my Prime membership is locked in at the $79 for my renewal this year. My membership is set for renewal at the end of December. That price is locked in for renewals in 2014. If I extend a month now then it’s going to bump my renewal into 2015 where I’ll be stuck paying the $99 renewal fee. So, I have to really think about whether or not it’s worth it.

    • Erin

Not true, my renewal date was last month at $99. I would go ahead an extend because it will be $99 either way

      • Jamie

Copied and pasted directly from my Prime Membership pages: On December 22, 2014, you will be charged $79 for a year of Prime. Starting December 22, 2015, you will be charged $99 per year.

        • Erin

I stand corrected. Wonder why mine was already up to $99 and you get another year at $79???

          • Mindy

Mine renewed in May — also for $99. Wonder how they decide who gets what rate. Lucky you for getting another low year. =)

            • Jamie

Wonder if it has anything to do with me being an Amazon Mom? I don’t know but maybe I should take a picture of it for proof. LOL!

            • trident49

I think you received that email because you renewed before they decided to change the price. Announcing they changed the price, I think, supercedes the former price and any guarantees. I would hate to see you miss out on anything because you feel you will hurt your price? Check with them.

  5. E

I only email them if there’s a real issue (like I NEEDED the item that day). They have great customer service and I don’t want to ruin that.

  6. YG

Yes. If my item did not come on time, I emailed them. They will give one month extension on prime.

  7. DK

Email the customer service, they respond pretty fast and will extend the membership,it’s that easy.

  8. stacy

Awesome I just contacted them for a movie I ordered on the 10th and did not receive until the 18th they gave me one free month. Thank you!

I have had numerous items not make it here by guaranteed delivery date. I’ve never received an extension. I’ve called or live chatted a few times if I needed the item by a certain date and have received a discount once or twice but I’ve never been offered an extension. Good to know going forward.

    • Jamie

I don’t think they’ll come out and offer but you can certainly ask for it.

  10. Kaye

I read somewhere that you can split the cost of the annual prime membership with other people, but I forgot where I read it from.. if anyone has an experience with it and would like to share how it works, I would appreciate it.

    • J

Me and my mom share it. We ve had no problems

    • Amberlie

The fine print says that you can share it with people in the same household. I take that to mean those with the same home address.

    • Kelli

My mother & I share it. The “prime” person has to “invite” you and I think they sent me a notice. I believe I had to know her birthday in order to get linked up. Extremely easy and beneficial. You still have separate accounts so don’t worry about seeing each other’s purchases. You both have prime membership. It’s defiantly worth sharing. Hth.

    • Robyn

We have done it in the past with friends (and compensated eo) and my husband currently shares my Prime membership with me. The difference is that only the primary member, the one who paid for the membership, is able to fully access all of the Prime benefits (I.E.: Prime Kindle First, Prime book borrowing, Prime Instant Video, & Prime music). The other “added” members are able to use the free shipping benefit only.

I got $10 credit for a day late one :/

  12. jill

I cant find where to contact them at, I searched all over, just cant seem to find it. please help

  13. Jamie

Click on “Help” at the top of the page, then “Need More Help” and “Contact Us”.

  14. coupshop

Yes, one of my items was marked “delivered” (which it had not) and I notified Amazon. They asked me to wait another day or two as this happens occasionally and for my inconvenience they would extended my prime by one month. Low and behold my package arrived the next day and I had one more month of prime free!

  15. HeythereHeather

I have gotten things re-shipped for free (and keep the old when/if it shows up type of thing). I have never been given a free month of prime. I have had prime for years now/. Kinda p’d off about this. I remember something didn’t come on time for Xmas and the recipient was leaving for back home. That sucked.

  16. casey

i’ve “complained” politely twice in email format and got quick response both times from rep apologizing and extending Prime membership by a month automatically. Didn’t know about this for over a year, but very nice they stand by their guarantee!

  17. Kitty

Usually my packages come on time or even earlier! Thanks for the heads up if it comes late

  18. Jenna

I used to work Amazon.com retail customer service. The main things you have to look for is that on your email confirmation for your order it has to say “Guaranteed Delivery Date” NOT “Estimated Delivery Date,” and we pretty much go off of what the tracking says for your package, because we have the tracking information right there in front of us when you contact about an order that was shipped by Amazon.com. As long as the tracking shows that the delivery was after the Guaranteed delivery date, then yeah we click to extend prime for a month, and if you paid for upgraded shipping, then the process also refunds your shipping costs. Amazon keeps their promises.

    • Brian

If amazon kept their promises then the package would actually arrive on the GUARENTEED delivery date.

  19. jill

    thank you Jamie

  20. Pam Wright

I placed an order last week and was to have it Saturday. It did not arrive until Monday so I just spoke with customer service and the extended my Prime membership a month. Thank you for the heads up!

  21. Kelly

Good to know! In the past when I’ve complained about the delays I’ve received a $10 credit or they have me a credit for the cost of the item. They have great customer service!

  22. Maria loza

I was shipped 3 items in 1 box even tho I paid shipping on all of them that’s
Not cool I would like credit please!
