Sent from reader, Wanda:

I am a rural mail carrier and I see many different repairs that people do to their mailboxes to keep from spending the money for a new one. The pictures that I have sent you is of a customer on my mail route that receives a lot of the same free samples and magazines that I myself receive.

Two weeks ago, their mailbox was on the ground, so I left them a note to please repair their mailbox. The next day I found this winning repair. 🙂

HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

we live on a business street, so our mailbox as well as our neighbors needs to be fixed quite often, we’ll have to remember this for next time

  5. jenjamsam

Wow, that’s a bit extreme! LOL!

  6. Sylvia

    LOL! Wow!

  7. Nik

Hey if it works it works!!!!!

  8. Edy

I work for a 90 yr old man ! That looks. Like something he would do!! Has the $$$ but, I enjoy the things and stuff that he does, he was in WW2 and his a blessing !!

  9. Ashley57

I am in love with this. Glad you submitted it. My DH would do this too if we lived on a rural street.

A new box costs around $11. Couldn’t they use overages at Target or Walmart and just get a brand new one?

    • MARGOT

Unfortunately, it appears that it is not the box, it is the attachment to the pole. If you are not very capable of fixing things yourself, it can be very expensive to hire a handyman. Have you checked their rates recently? 🙂

      • Ashley57

$11 is $11, that is what I say. That is $11 in his pocket and not in some corporation. If you do things like this in all areas of your life, you will have a lot more than $11 to show for it. I wouldn’t use overages for this, but for things that don’t have coupons (or at least aren’t free) like eggs, milk, etc.

      • Amy

@margot.. I totally agree. From what Wanda stated, this is out in a rural area. The closest neighbor probably can’t even see the mailbox so I doubt it’s the neighborhood eyesore. As long as it’s not tons of garbage or something crazy, it’s fine. If it’s not on my lawn and I can’t see it from my lawn, who cares. If the owner saved a few bucks even better.

    • WendyB

Who knows if they use coupons to get overage. The post said they receive free things. Maybe you could reply to the post and offer a donation to cover the cost of repairs or a new one.

  11. Laura

If my mail carrier told me to fix my mailbox I would FIX it, if it’s so bad that your mailman has to flat out tell you I fix it! And not with duct tape!!

    • WendyB

Maybe they can’t afford to fix it. Perhaps you should reply to post and offer a donation and pay for a new one.

  12. TingersCRIS

There are more important things in life than a pretty mailbox. Kudos to their effort, it isn’t the best fix but whatever works!

  13. E

    Eco friendly, me gusta!

  14. V

    Love it.

I think it is a shame that people throw so many things away and buy new. I would much rather repair a good quality item for years, rather than constantly buying cheap new low quality goods.

  15. Missy

A fresh coat of [spray] paint and it would look great—duct tape and all! 🙂

  16. Misty

Until their mailbox falls off again and they call the USPS to complain about their lost mail.

  17. sarah o

Yeah, but what happens when you need your screwdriver? 🙂

    • Amy

You take your coupon to harbor freight and get a new screw driver for free! 😉

      • Brindha

        Lol 🙂

      • a friend

        Cute answer! 🙂

        • mel

If he’s anything like my husband, who has a drawer FULL of screwdrivers, 1 or 2 to prop up the mailbox won’t hurt his stash! LOL

  18. Crystal

I would take that over the MOUSE that was in a box I delivered to the other day! 🙂

    • makaylaisabel

      Ha!

  19. Margarita

I read this Saturday morning and it made me smile, comments and all. 20 comments over 2 screwdrivers and duct tape holding up a mailbox. Hee-hee… life is awesome. Happy Saturday all.

  20. makaylaisabel

I’m going to scratch off mailman from the lists of careers I can not do. lol Thanks for your hard work out there… but the weather and people such as this genius make it impossible for me.

That reminds me of when my husband and I moved into our home shortly after being married two years ago. Our newspaper carrier left us a note taped to the opening of the box and said she didn’t feel like reaching an extra two inches to reach our box. I raided the coupon stash and found a few bags of holiday candy, stuffed it in the back of the box, with a can of coke, and left a note saying, “here’s something worth reaching for.” Since then, the carrier leaves me extra newspaper coupon inserts, and I leave her happies in the box as well!

    • dandee

Great story…made me lol…sometimes I get dirty looks from my mail carrier on days when my free magazines
      arrive…but hey, that’s their job…

  22. td

I’d be proud if my mailbox was awesome enough to make my mailman submit it to H2S…would be cool if the owner of this box was reading and saw this today! I am always irritated when my BF fixes things with tape (currently the passenger mirror on my car!), but if it works and holds out buying a replacement, then so be it! Thanks for the laugh!

  23. wanda

Thanks so much…..I enjoy my job, I love being outside and meeting new people.

  24. Amy

Smart people! These are the kinds of people who are going to have money to afford to live all through their elderly days when others are pinching pennies and collecting cans to recycle.
