A little off topic but I’m pulling my hair out over all the new walgreens register rewards nonsense. I guess each register reward attaches to an item that you can’t use another manf coupon on right? And that individual item has to be more than the register reward now? Does anyone know if you buy two of the same exact items that are say $2 each. Can you use a $1 rr and a $3 rr without beeping? Or will the $3 not be accepted because the one item isnt $3+

    Ahhh help please anyone?

    • Carol_R

I don’t see any change with the Register Rewards at Walgreens. I just purchased items that were less than $3 and used a bunch of $3 RR with no problem at my Walgreens. No beeping since the total was less that the sum of the Register Rewards I was using and there were more items purchased without manufacturer coupons than there were Register Rewards.

I love your videos and you grandmother is so cute.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thank you, Carol!

I had such a bad experience at kmart yesterday. I was trying to do the same scenario collin did. But the cashiers wouldn’t allow me double my coupons since some of the sales were BOGO sales . They also told me that the transaction only has to be five items that equal to 25. ( items that I have coupons for, that I want to double). It was terrible. I called customer service and that they apologize but they stand behind the store decision.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am sorry to hear that… how frustrating. 🙁

    • selena

Me too…I feel your pain. I TRIED for the first and probably last time to do doubles at kmart…. First handed me back one of my two 2 $ off pantene styler Qs because she was reading misinterpreting the details as one per purchase (I had two) would not even try until i showed her that it said up to 4 like coupons…several coupons would not scan at all.Called manager over and then they tried to tell me that because i was using coupons and the total was dropping below 25 was why the other coupons would not work…the line behind me was growing…I EXPLAINED that I had no more time to spare and that I would like my coupons back and would only purchase the two other items that i did not have coupons for….Mistake …had to call over someone again to void the transaction .Took two of them about 5 more minutes to figure that out . So jealous of those of you with great Kmarts!!!!

      • ish

Got so mad cuz at my Kmart same thing happened, they said cuz the total lowered to below $25 they wouldnt scan my other coupons, but ended up arguing so went to customer service where they manually did it, but still was frustrating to have to go through it.

Regarding Kmart — some deals I included with Collin’s suggestions….

I am sure there are tons of scenarios for the Cover Girl BOGO 1/2 off but I bought some things I needed — 1 Pressed Powder @ 6.49 + 1 Cheekers Blush @ $2.15 (1/2 off $4.29) = $8.64 minus two $1.50 off (doubled) Cover Girl face product in 9/28 P&G = $2.64 for both. If you bought 2 of the blush, I imagine it would be only $.44 for both ($4.29 + 2.15 minus $6 coupons).

Also, there were some good deals on Oil of Olay (BOGO 1/2 off) but I use the moisturizer so I got 2 of the larger ones….$10.99 each (so $10.99 + $5.50)….an Oil of Olay insert 9/7 had $2 off moisturizer so, using 2 of those doubled = $16.49 minus $8 = $8.49 for both (or $4.24 each).

Anyone find any good grocery deals at Kmart?

  5. Lisa L.

I love your grandma – she is so active for 92! Great deals and can’t wait to pick up the kid’s medicines at Walgreen’s!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks, Lisa! And yes, for 92 – she’s a rock star! 🙂

  6. Hunterwoody

I too had a terrible experience at Kmart. I called national customer service, who said I had to take it up with the store. I facebooked them, said take it up with store. I emailed them, no response. I purchased four $6.99 tides and two Vidal Sassoon. Paid, went home. Sent off rebate for p and g. Realized the tides weren’t HE for my washer. Took them back with e-receipt to exchange. Was told that my rebate would be negated if I exchanged them. Returned “no receipt” for lowest price of 5.59 and bought back HE tide for 6.99. I am done with Kmart.

    • AR

How would the rebate center know you exchanged them? I wouldn’t have even said anything about a rebate, just that I needed to exchange and misplaced the original receipt.

    • Cindy C

but you have the e-receipt, wouldn’t that be the same? That means they have the information in their computer, so they know what you paid for them. Sounds fishy to me….

I go to Kmart at least 2-3 times a week because of some friendly cashiers that I like. Unfortunately today is different. I try to buy 42 ct Prilosec $24.85, 2 Pantene styler $9.98/2 + $4.99/2, 4 Claritin $3/1 which total to $51.82. used: $10 back when u spend $50 + $28 in coupon. My transaction would be a little MM if all my coupons go thru. Another cashier came when I was checking out and told everyone that if my coupons beep they are not allowed to key-in my coupons. I asked the lady if the policy change and if I can take a look of it but she won’t tell me anything. Then when she left the other cashier told me that the policy was from March 2009 and that they can’t accept coupons that won’t scan or if its more than 75% of the price of the item. I don’t want to argue with them so I just asked them to void the transaction and left. Does anybody here know the changes in policy? can someone point me to kmart policy? Are they really not allowed to accept coupon that won’t scan? sorry this is long… just want to know what to do because I still have two days to get on the deal. tia fellow hipster.

    • Rosie

I haven’t had any problems. I haven’t heard of a new coupon policy and any that beep are always keyed in, even by the managers.

  8. Rowen

So we could go back and do different scenarios at Kmart each day?

    • Rosie

Yes, you can do 5 doubled coupons per account each day. My husband also has an account, so I do 2 transactions a day, one per account.

  9. Missy

I would love for Collin to address how she keeps all of her deals organized. Thanks to Hip To Save, I’m finding great deals but am running out of ways to organize my “stuff”. If anyone could address I’d appreciate it.

    • Rowen

Luckily, I have a mother who doesn’t use her basement, so I’m free to fill it up and go “shopping” whenever I need stuff. I just have the garage organizers right now, but my stockpile isn’t very big.

  10. Paula

I feel your pain for those it didn’t work for. Usually it doesn’t for me either. Usually some kind of problem. One of my coupons did not double completely because it only doubles to the cost of the item-no overage. The major issue for me was trying to find other good deals there to get to the 25$. Even the food is more expensive .

  11. Caitlin

My experience at Kmart was very good tonight, despite the registers and scanners being archaic and crashing twice during my transactions. Husband and I each bought a little over $25 worth and used coupons. I also had points to spend and ended up spending less than $2 for over $60 worth of cleaning and personal care products.

  12. Kate

I was curious because it looks like you used more than 5 coupons on that transaction. Pretty new to this. I was going to do the 2 Pantene products 2 loreal products and 2 pledge which means six coupons. Will this work?

    • Rowen

I think she was able to use six because only five of them doubled.

  13. EG

    My purchase: (1) Tide $12.99 – $2.00q doubled = $6.99, (4) Downy Unstopables $5.49 – $2.00q doubled = $1.49ea. Total = Paid with my points $0 oop.
Got back $10 in kmart points and sent away for $10 p&g rebate.

    My mother’s purchase : (2) Tide $12.99 – $2.00q doubled = $6.99ea, (1) Downy Unstopables $5.49 – $2.00q doubled = $1.49ea and (2) Downy softeners $5.00 -$1.50q doubled = $2.00ea
Total = Paid with my points $0 oop.
Got back $10 in kmart pts and sent away for $10 p&g rebate.

Thinking about making another trip on Saturday.

    • Shey

Would the tide not be $8.99 $12.99-$4 for doubled coupon. Also I thought the P & G deadline was Sept 30 to purchase. Thanks

      • An

There is another rebate. Not the laundry one. See here https://pgcatchofyourlife.com. You need to spend $30 in P&G products in single transaction.

      • EG

You are right. I accidentally wrote 6.99 instead of 8.99. My purchases were from the day the sale started so it was before the 30th.

    • An

How can you get $2 downy coupon? Thanks!

      • EG

They were peelie coupons I had from a few months ago.

    • Lisa

Did the price of the Tide reduce on your receipt because you use points and got everything for free?

  14. Jessica

Fortunately my trip today was successful! I got 4 Pantene hairspray $14.98 (bogo) then 3 downy at $5ea. Total $29.98. I used $5/3 downy then 4 ea $2 Pantene that doubled to $4 ea. my oop was $8.98 (before tax). I think that’s great considering 1 downy alone is normally around $6/$7.

  15. Jessica

In addition to previous post, I’m going back tomorrow for suave and tide that will put me over the $30 for p&g rebate!

  16. Rowen

Looking for the lowest oop deal by spending over $30. I just joined sywr and got a preloaded coupon for spend $30, get $10. Any ideas?

  17. Jane

The transaction posted say there is coupon overage but whenever i use a coupon, doubled it only goes up to the price and not over. ie..I bought Lindt Lindor for 3.49 bag and used $2 internet q. It deducted $2 and 1.49. Not complaining. Just noting. 🙂

    • heatherlovesfred

Jane…where did you get a Lindor coupon?? 🙂

      • Brooke

        It’s on their Facebook page.

      • Jane

        That’s correct. Facebook.

    • An

Only the BOGO 50% things can be fully doubled with overage. That is because the second item is still $4.99 in system and the BOGO $2.50 saving is listed separately. Thus both coupons can be doubled to $4 leading to a money maker.~

  18. Melissa

Rrrrr…. so wish we still had kmarts here in Texas. Come back Kmart.
