my 10 year old daughter has Celiac. and what is hilarious to me is the fad “diets” of going gluten free, because gluten free food actually has higher calorie content for smaller portions, and most people gain weight on gluten free items. You are only replacing your wheat gluten with other forms like corn and rice. I love the way the human brain works, one person does it, so it must be true mentality:) Also finding it hilarious, I am forever grateful to the silly fad dieters, without them, my Celiac girl wouldn’t have the gluten free choices that she does

People do different diets for different reasons. To ech their own…right?

          Oops..meant “each”

Exactly! I’m not celiac but gluten sensitive and been 2 years gluten free,I figured this out on my own. I’ve never been more physically and mentally healthy in my life. People don’t need a diagnosis to be told to go on a gf diet, who cares. Everyone I’ve ever known who’s gone gf has never felt better! So the more the merrier. 🙂

I don’t think most people are doing it to diet (i.e. Lose weight). Diet has more than one meaning (ie the food that you eat is your diet). My husband is gluten intolerant and his dad has Celiac; they are both on a gluten free diet. More than 1% of the population has Celiac or gluten intolerance now and that is why we are seeing more products. Manufacturers want part of that market share. I feel better not eating gluten because it means I am eating less empty carbs in general. We don’t substitute tons of GF items, just eat more of the naturally GF food.

        • Caralynn

Agreed, there is much more awareness now too, to the numerous problems caused by gluten to those who are not just celiac but also sensitive too. Most tests are geared toward celiac and the only way to see a difference is an elimination diet if you are intolerant/sensitive/NCGS. Gluten causes both mental and physical illnesses. I was proof of it. People are cutting it out and feeling better, if people feel better off gluten why not encourage it! 🙂
