American Express Cardholders: Support Small Businesses & Get $10 Credit (TODAY ONLY!)
Calling all you American Express Cardholders! Don’t forget that if you signed up for Small Business Saturday (and you can still surprisingly register HERE if you haven’t), today is the day! 🙂 Today, November 29th only, use your registered American Express card at participating small business merchants and you’ll earn up to three $10 statement credits (as long as you are signed up).
NOTE – Corporate Cards and all prepaid Card products (other than American Express Serve and Bluebird) are not eligible.
Here’s what you need to do…
* Head over here to register your American Express card (you may register one card for this offer)
* Using your registered American Express Card, spend $10 or more at participating small business merchants today, November 29th. Qualifying small business locations appear on the Small Business Saturday Map found at ShopSmall.com. You may purchase multiple items that together equal $10 or more, but you must purchase them in a single transaction to receive the statement credit. Online transactions do not qualify.
* Receive the $10 statement credit (or up to 3!). Your credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after November 29, 2014, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.
(Thanks for the reminder, Kathy, Jeannie & Cindy!)
Yay! Just about to go take advantage of this offer!
🙂
I’ve already got $10 worth of donuts, $10 worth of cookies from a local bakery and $10 off my chicken express lunch. Love this promotion. It was fun going to the local shops.
How awesome! 🙂
Do you know if you can do three separate transactions at the same store and still qualify for three statement credits? I didn’t see an exclusion in the rules.
You can only do one pre retailer, according to fine print.
What fine print?
Didn’t saw fine print about one per retailer, where did you saw that. per fine print, I have
1. Limit three (3) $10 statement credits per eligible American Express Card. To receive the offer, Card Members must
register any eligible American Express Card for this offer. Corporate Cards and all prepaid Card products (other than
American Express Serve® and Bluebird®) are not eligible.
Registration may be performed via any of the following ways:
A. By completing the registration form accessible via ShopSmall.com
B. By logging in to your account at americanexpress.com and clicking on the ‘Amex Offers’ tab or ‘Small Business
Saturday’ offer tile in ‘Amex Offers & Benefits’
C. By logging into the American Express App and visiting the ‘Offers For You’ tab in the ‘Membership’ section
D. By adding the offer directly to your connected Card via amex.co/facebook
E. By tweeting #AmexShopSmall to add the offer directly to your connected Card
2. The number of registrations is limited. Registration opens at 12:00 A.M. MST (“Mountain Standard Time”) on Nov 16,
2014 and will continue until 11:59 P.M. MST on Nov 29, 2014, unless the registration limit is reached sooner.
3. To receive the $10 statement credit, the Card Member must use his or her registered Card to spend $10 or more in a
single, in-store transaction at a qualifying small business location on Saturday, Nov 29, 2014. For example, if your
transaction is only for $5, you will not receive a credit. Multiple transactions of less than $10 will not qualify even if the
combined total of those transactions is over $10. You may purchase multiple items that together equal $10 or more, but
you must purchase them in a single transaction to receive the statement credit. Online transactions do not qualify.
4. Qualifying small business locations appear on the Shop Small® Map available at ShopSmall.com. Please note that the
businesses listed on the Shop Small Map may change. In addition, business location and other information provided on
the Shop Small Map may contain inaccuracies or errors, including as a result of information provided by third parties.
Transactions with political campaigns or political action committees as well as purchases at gas or service stations do not
qualify for the statement credit, regardless of whether they appear on the Shop Small Map.
5. If American Express does not receive information that identifies a transaction as having occurred in-store at a
qualifying small business location on Nov 29, 2014, the transaction will not qualify for the statement credit. For example,
your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not
receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the
merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.
6. The statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after Nov 29, 2014, provided that American
Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase as described above. Note that American
Express may not receive information that identifies your transaction as a qualifying transaction if the items from your
purchase are not all provided to you on Nov 29, 2014. For example, if you purchase an item that is not available until
after Nov 29, 2014, that item will not count towards determining whether your transaction qualifies for the offer.
7. The statement credit may be reversed if the qualifying purchase is returned or cancelled.
Sorry I misread something.
Adrienne, although I did not do this myself previously (last year there only one credit overall), according to what a Hip2saver commented when Collin originally posted the registration information for this year: Yes, evidently in the past it was possible to do the separate transactions at the same merchant, the way you asked about. I had checked the rules, too, and because it didn’t seem to preclude doing so, I have tried that today with two qualifying purchases at a store, but we’ll have to wait to see for sure whether it works more than once at the same place.
You can do 3 transactions in one store. I did it this morning and got the auto emails right away
Thank you for the feedback assurance, Melloddie.
I did the same and also got three separate email confirmations. Time will tell, but I expect to see three separate credits on my account in a few days.
Yes, you can! I did 3 transactions at one store and already got 3 e-mails stating that I will be receiving 3 $10 credits. 🙂
I called American Express and yes you can do all three transactions at the same store. Their phone number is 1-800-235-8916 if anyone has other questions, I called to ask if you could purchase gift cards to qualify for the credits and they said yes.
Thanks, all!
I just used mine 3 times at the same place and received 3 e-mails stating I would be credited for each.
Yes you can. I just did it and received 3 confirmation emails 🙂
I did 3 separate transactions at a local Ace Hardware store and got 3 separate emails from American Express saying “congrats.” I bought $34.65 worth of products (wayyyy over priced in my opinion) and will need to pay $4.65. It was fun 🙂 Thanks Collin!!
Yes we are doing All $30 on 2 cards
$60 worth of free food.
Yay
So excited about this one!!! I had bought a Groupon to a store which I had no idea was participating! I used a 20% off on Groupon so paid $12 for a $30 voucher and now will spend another $10 so $40 for $12- woo hoo! There is an AMAZING cheese shop also near this store and we will probably be using all of our cards on these cheeses that are so expensive and can rarely find a deal on!!! TY H2S!!! <3
can this be done at gas stations?
is tony’s finer food a small buisness?what about cvs? the search bar is confusing
I saw on the offer terms that gas stations are -not- included, even if they are on the list.
Just went to lunch… Got $10 back. We also went to our local meat market… Spent $10.27 on chicken and I’ll get $10 back (so $.27 for 2 pounds of chicken!!!)
We also went to the liquor store. I bought a $12.99 bottle of marshmallow vodka. I’ll get $10 back plus there was a $5 rebate in the bottle making the bottle of vodka free plus a money maker!!!!
Great day! Thanks AMEX!
Just got my Toarmina’s pizza
Thanks for much for posting this! I used 2 amx cards and got 6 $10 gift cards to a local smoothie place. These will make great teacher gifts!
I love that AMEX is supporting local!! Thats what I do everyday in northern Utah with a website I run GoDavis.biz – I know hundreds of business owners locally and I know every customer is so important to them!
Got a few groceries from a local store and lunch! Love it!
We had breakfast out and then stopped at the wine shop for some very nice bottles of wine.
What type of stores did you guys go to where you could buy gift cards?
Local restaurants and gift shops. Check the American Express site for participating businesses in your area.
I went to a local pet store and bought a gift card.
Bought my daughter a very cute $22 Monogramed scarf I would have never have spent the $$ on myself. Checked out and the store was giving $20% off to celebrate small business Sat. so only after my credit only $9, it was such a good deal, I bought myself one to match hers (thee adult version was $27, so only $12 after credit). Tonight we are using out 3rd credit to eat at a local small business that has “kids eat free” on Sat. nights. PLUS I have coupons. So a cheap dinner out for the whole family! LOVE this promotion, We don’t have the money to treat ourselves often so THANK you AMX for allowing us the opportunity!
I only got one email? I’m sure the businesses were on the list . I checked before I went.
We got all of our credits. Did it in 3 different stores in 2 states en route to back home from Thanksgiving, lol.
We are going to see a movie at our local cheap theater ($2 total for 4 people after promo), stopping for gelato and then hitting the hardware store for lightbulbs haha.
Love this deal!!! Went bowling, got lunch, and bought 2 poinsettias all for less than $2.00 after credits!!! So awesome
Can I use serve?
Yes! It let me register my card.
Wanted a manicure so picked a salon off the Amex list. After it was done went to pay and they told me they don’t accept Amex :/
A lot of places, especially non corporatized stores do not accept AMEX because of the fees they charge businesses. Where as Mastercard, Visa, and other major CC charges fee of 2-3% per transaction of businesses, Amex charges up to 4%, almost doubling.
The first store I went to, on the map, didn’t accept American Express :(.
same happened to us. The owner said that she did not accept AmEx for the last two years. We still bought food there, but used promo at two different business. Never fails to check more than one place, just in case.
I only got two emails, should I be concerned that the 3rd store didn’t produce an email?!
There were several businesses listed on the qualified map that were not in fact qualified. I encourage you to call ex to make sure the business is qualified
Can I buy stuff online?
Offer not valid online
Anyone try their Costco American Express card?
Yes, Costco Amex is fine, but you have to sign the card up for the offer. Purchases from costco don’t qualify though
yep, we used two Costco AmEx cards this afternoon and got confirmation emails already. You needed to register your cards first, I believe
Got $60 worth of gift cards at local theater. Hello Mockingjay, Penguins, and Five Armies!
Is it ok to spend less than $10 & get credited for that?
Credit is only for $10 or more
Thank you!!
My watch has needed a new battery for over a month and our small local jeweler down the street replaced it for exactly $10 (yay free!) and I picked up some gifts from a local chocolatier – Green Mountain Chocolates makes so many beautiful delicious things, but everyone loves their award winning chocolate covered potato chips, so checked some of those off the list (gratis) today. Thank you Amex!
Pfff-This didn’t work out well for me. First I went to a small Chinese bun bakery (listed on the AMEX map) for lunch take out, and found out they don’t take AMEX, after my order was ready. Funny, as they take everything else, including Discover. Then I tried a small health food store, (also listed on the map) and they were closed with a for rent sign in window, though they appeared to be fully stocked. Last try was a small liquor store, (again, listed on their map) they take AMEX but I haven’t received any email as others have mentioned, so I’m skeptical that the $10 credit is going to work. Won’t be attempting this promo in the future ~
Just curious, has anyone been able to purchase gift cards and still get the credit?
Yes I bought gift cards at several restaurants and got emails saying I will receive credits.
Buying a GC worked for me as well.
yes, we bought GC at two restaurants and got confirmation emails already
Hi, does anyone know if I can get 3-$10 credit for my card and also for my husbands card which would = 6-$10 credits? He is an authorized user on my account but has a different card number from mines. Thank you!
Yes. We did and got the emails to confirm.
Yes, only if both cads are registered for Small Business Saturday.
I made 2 purchases over $10 at Ace Hardware and received two notifications from Amex. Went to get sushi take out in a single $14 transaction and again received two email notifications… all 4 emails are identical… I’m confused…
Bought a bottle of wine, a pint of balieys, tanqurie, crown, Malibu, and a six pack, all for $6 after hubby and I split up the transactions into 6 separate ones. Plan on giving these to family who come stay with us during the holidays. They each get their favorite drink. It’s always makes it easier to have family stay at your house when alcohol is involved !
Fun day for my girls. Got 2 kids meals at ruby’s, and i took advantage of a gift card offer and ate at the park. First time at a comic store and finally got ice blendes drinks at a local organic coffee shop. Will defenitely give them future business!
Thanks for posting this – I had no idea about this credit! Ended up having a fun family outing – dinner and picking some books out at the local bookstore!
My husband, mom and I went to Roch Bros to get six $10 gift cards but the store manager gave me an attitude by saying that they couldn’t have people like me otherwise they would have a line out the door. He and the other cashier also said they were not participating and I wouldn’t get the credits.
I told them to not worry about it as I shopped there every week anyway.
I got home and saw my confirmation emails.
I’m kinda upset about the whole experience especially I bought over $30 groceries for the week too.
I never got my e-mails even though I shopped at stores on the list. Did anyone else have this issue?
I didn’t get any confirmation emails either. It seems like last year I didn’t get confirmation emails and still got the credit on my statement.
This was frustrating for us…went to a donut shop on the list made our order and then owner told us they don’t accept American Express…after going back and forth with them they took it to get us out the store and then I got my conf. email…went to next store also listed and they wouldn’t take our card at all….so upsetting!
Just FYI from a small business owner, unless you shop somewhere more corporatey like ACE Hardware, AmEx does EVERYTHING in their power to work against true small business & has terrible customer service. They allow small businesses to register/list themselves, send approval emails & promo stuff then create all kinds of absurd reasons why that small business does not qualify after they’ve already promoted to their customers. We own one of those small businesses & will never do business with AmEx again. Truly unfortunate for the customers. Buyer Beware! If you shopped small to support local business & did not get credit call, make them aware of their errors, its the only thing that will change their made up policies in the future.
Used my amex and my hubbys 2 amex cards for $90 in statement credits! Went to FYE(bought books, head phones and trinkets for xmas gifts), the Nerd store(for Pokemon cards for stockings), True Value (more xmas gifts and some decorations), a music store (bought Piano music), Zurchers(for xmas wrap) and finished up at Pier 49 Pizza! I love shop small Saturday!
I went to the goodwill store and scored some dishes new in their box and a christmas music box with ice skater also new in box and 2 shirts, nothing better then shopping for free!!
Amex is a champion in customer focus and happiness.
I received all 6 emails for my 10gc purchases at local Pizza place. My poor husband went to a place on the list and when he got there and ordered and handed over his Amex they said they don’t take Amex.:(
2 places didn’t take amex was super bummed. Anyways bought at 2 places. Would have split my order if I knew we could have done more than one at a place. Oh well.
It always helps to check before hand! We had 2 out of 4 work out today – two places were closed which I find amusing. They were on Amex map but they were closed! The other two places worked great! However I know Amex can be more expensive to work with for small businesses so I made sure to buy more than just $10 worth.
I got lucky- the local restaurant I went to was doing a promotion so I got an additional $5 free loaded onto each $10 gift card I bought. So I went in for $30 in gift cards and walked away with $45 for free. I already got an email from AMex saying they got my transactions and that will be receiving a credit. Yay!
Waiting for my credit for restaurant purchase
In year’s past I’ve gotten a confirmation email almost immediately after my purchases, but this year I haven’t gotten any emails about them. I am getting worried, although I registered my card, went to a business on their site map and followed all of the steps. I guess I’ll have to wait it out and hope for the credit.
many thanks, collin. my amex card was credited $60 today for purchases my husband and i made. great steaks and chocolate were had!
