Question…does anyone know if you can just put your sim card in it and use it with the contract you already have with AT&T?

    • john

GoPhones can be used on your normal at&t plan, you don’t need to get a GoPhone plan. You just have to have a SIM card that fits. (I had to go to the At&t store to get a new SIM because the size of the SIM card changed when I switched phones).

      • Ruthie

A new sim card should come with it. Take it to your AT&T store with your old phone and they will transfer all your contacts and other information on you old phone and activate the new one. There is not an activation fee if you take the new phone in—-only if you buy it in store.HTH

        • john

If you use the new SIM card that came with the phone on your own it may require you to set up a new account, so if your current phone’s SIM card works use that. If it doesn’t contact at&t to switch to the new SIM card while using your current plan.

Stupid question, can I get this phone for my 6 year old, just to be used for wireless without paying for any service charges? Does that make sense?

    • john

Yes, you don’t have to activate it before you use it so you can use it on wireless if you want. So you can browse the internet, download apps, take pictures etc without having to sign up for a At&t phone plan. And like all cell phones, even if the phone isn’t activated, it still has the ability to call 911.

    • Cyndi B

Just checked Amazon, and other people were replying to that similar question that YES it can be used without service, just using the wi-fi hotspots for internet and whatnot!!!! NO DATA PLANS OR COSTS AT ALL!!!! 🙂

    • jessie

Yes! But if you are looking for apps it is VERY limited.

    My screen broke in 2
Months with just average use, loved the features but it just does not pass the test of time.

    • john

I’ve had it for 6 months, and haven’t had any issues. It does not use gorilla glass for the screen so yes, it won’t be as durable as phones/other models that do use it, and it could scratch easier. But a cheap screen protector off ebay helps against scratches. It does have a super sensitive screen though which is nice in these winter months that you can use the phone with gloves on.

  7. Rita

Oh Stacey! We have same minds. ☺☺

  8. Melissa

Crap! I was just looking at this same phone at walmart but decided to get the $29.00 Go phone opened it when I got home never even put the battery in it was like UGH this Go phone is so cheap, Now I just placed an order for this I am hoping I can return the one I opened but didn’t use at walmart. Gosh I hope so!

    • trina

You can return it within 15 days and with the receipt even if it is opened.

      • Melissa

Thanks Glad to know I am so Happy right now!!

Stacey & Rita- I wondered the same thing! I have another “smart phone” that I used for that purpose that has a cracked screen. No service needed, still has wi-fi capability and everything, and I just downloaded a free texting app for completely free text as well as free internet surfing! I bet this one would work that way as well…

    • jiya

What’s the name of free text app? I don’t have data plan on my phone. Can I still use it?
      Thanks!!

      • Cyndi B

Jiya, I used HeyWire. Only been using it for about a month, but it works pretty well for me. No data plan needed! I only use it for backup purposes (text myself to find my phone, etc) but u can’t beat free! 😊

Got this phone for a visiting relative to use while here. NO FRONT CAMERA! Terrible if you use Skype. And for those who like to take selfies it won’t be an option in less you’re in front of a mirror.

    • cara

Selfie can still be done. … firm the phone around and snap it that way. The picture comes out better that way anyways.

  11. Emily

yay I got mine. Thanks a lot Collin great deal 😉

  12. rach

i wasn’t even in the market for this….we are a non-smart phone family….but i just bought 2 of these for the GPS capabilities alone. thanks for posting collin!!!

    • v

I don’t use GPS for directions on my “wi-fi” use only phone. Does GPS work for giving directions when not in a wi fi zone?
      Thanks

      • jeanette

no…u need wifi to use gps

        • john

I think you may be able to download the maps though and use the maps offline if you get lost. Obviously not as good as GPS, but still potentially helpful as a map/atlas.

  13. Vanessa

We have this phone as a backup. I had to use it while I was waiting for my iPhone to come in. Very limited apps since it is a windows phone. Can’t even get hip 2 save (worst 30 days of my life lol) you can book mark the sites though!

    • AMB

The apps are extremely limited. I ended up dropping it (on accident) and smashing the screen- never been so happy to need a new phone. Hubby is still using his but a new phone is on his Christmas wish list.

      • john

I guess it depends what you use the phone for and what you need apps for. Almost everything I’ve needed an app for existed either in an official app or a third party app that did the same thing. Couldn’t you have just gone to the hip2save website on the phone? Obviously smaller things like hip2save or some games might not have a windows app but I wouldn’t buy a phone just to play a game.

  14. Diane Y

I purchased this phone earlier in the year for my hubby and was able to do the 10 cent plan, now going to do the same and give this one to my daughter 🙂

    • Maria

Crazy question, from where is the ten cent plan?

  15. Erica

My 3yr old is obsessed with smart phones… I think this would work! & keep him off my galaxy lol

  16. las2131

Does anyone know if the ibotta app works with this phone?

  17. Pam

I wonder if you can print coupons to a wireless printer with this? For that alone, it would be worth it.

  18. Stacey

Thanks for all the help ladies!

  19. Anna

    Order subtotal: $57.88 🙁
