Do you have a room/closet/garage full of old or used car seats, cribs, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards, high chairs and/or toddler beds?! If so, gather it all up and head over to your local Toys R Us or Babies R Us for the Great Trade-In Event which begins this Friday, January 23rd, and runs through February 21st. For each item that you trade in, you will snag a 25% off discount on participating product categories from participating manufacturers.

Keep in mind that you can trade in these used items regardless of whether you purchased the item from a Toys R Us/Babies R Us store and you do NOT need a receipt to trade-in a used item. You can trade in multiple items during the program and you will receive savings for each item traded in. However, you may only use one savings coupon per each new item purchased. Click here for more information or contact your local store for more details.

Do they give you a coupon?
Do you have to spend it that day?

    • Angela

They do give you a coupon. I can’t remember if you have to spend it hat day. I kind of want to say yes.

    • Marlene

This promotion only runs in the U.S. — Canada is not part of the promotion.

  2. Paty

They say that you’re supposed to use it that day but last year the coupon had the last trade in day as the expiration date.

  3. Mari

Does anyone know if I can combine a coupon with the trade-in discount?

  4. mommy2013

Does anyone know if you can price match an item……..then use the 25% off coupon? Thanks!

  5. jenn

I called and they said in store only and NO sale or clearance prices which really sucks. Didnt think to ask about expiration.

  6. Corinne

Can you trade in expired car seats?

    • Jessica

Yes, you can. They’ll take them in any condition!

  7. RA

We did this last year. It’s kind of a pain b/c BRU has so many restrictions. You basically have to buy a carrier at retail cost. “exclusions: Gear – Halo bassinets and Maxi-Cosi car seats; doorway jumpers and infant carriers; Baby Jogger, Bugaboo, Peg Pérego, Quinny; clearance and Red Hot Deal items. Furniture – Mattresses, gliders/ottomans, special orders and clearance items”

I agree. They won’t let you get an awesome deal. My plan is to wait for a 40% off kohls mystery coupon and buy then. Plus you earn cash back (sometimes 6%), yes2rewards, and sometimes kohls cash on top of it.

      • Carly

Just wanted to let you know that kohls no longer accepts discount codes on most baby gear starting in February.

      • superchelseald

yep- I tried to use a Kohls 30% on a car seat this week- it doesn’t work anymore 🙁

      • Jennifer

Do you know when they normally have that coupon I try to use the 30% off of a crib and they wouldn’t let me

      • marina

when is that mystery coupon appears?

  8. anaj

Can the trade item be old (really old)and still get the coupon

    • Happymama

I saw a really nasty/old car seat that someone traded in a couple years ago. You should call before you go though, just to see. I don’t know what they do with them?

    • visitor3

Yes, someone I know used a trashpick for the trade-in.

  9. Diane

I have picked up the nastiest umbrella stroller in a nonprofit store purchased it and traded it in for a large ticket item when my daughter was expecting her first. I only purchased ones that were such bad shape that no one would want to purchase it.

    • Happymama

genius! The day we got a crib and two dressers, they were doing this trade in event. I wish I knew about it…it’d save us lots.

      • Andrea

I’ve seen people on the FB swap lists asking for free ones and they got lots of offers 🙂

Does Toys R Us not price match Amazon Prime? I was there really today and they said they did not match prime membership?

    • tom

They’ll price match but then wont give you the 25% off. See my experience – post 17.

  11. michelle

Wonder if they would take a bumbo chair for the trade in

  12. Jennifer

I have an old car seat I have been meaning to throw away but people dumpster dive and it’s expired so I cut the straps out of it and threw the buckles away. I wonder if they will still take it?

  13. Katrina

I called and they said “baby gear”….which she confirmed meant narrow based carriers or a sling. There are certain brands you can only purchase.

  14. laura

Just a heads up, kohls is offering their 30% off now plus 10$off 30$ baby items( which combines) plus earn kohls cash. Makes for a pretty good deal. Was going to wait for Tru trade in sale but hot the same carseat for 90 instead of 120.

    • Katie

What are those kohls codes for 30% and $10 off $30?

      • Jennifer

        Newyear30 (30%)
        Bundle10 ($10 off $30 baby item)

    • madison

I’d like to know about the coupons as well!

      • Jennifer

        Newyear30 (30%)
        Bundle10 ($10 off $30 baby item)

    • ks

When does this deal end? And where are their carseats? All online?

  15. Elaine

Hmmm I have a baby jogger stroller that I want to trade in for an umbrella stroller, 25% off is good but it depends on the retail price in TRU cuz most of them are over priced to begin with. Amazon usually have cheaper baby gears and kohls too when they have 30% plus kohls cash and ebates.

  16. amber

So its just a 25% off coupon? That’s it? Or am I missing something else? I want to get my bby a new carseat but, to trade in 2 carseats, 1 walker, 1 swing, & 1 bassinet for a 25% off coupon seems to low.

    • B

You would get a 25% off coupon for each item that you trade in, but you can’t stack the codes on a single item when you buy. Each 25% off coupon is only good for one item.

  17. tom

A bit of a scam? Here’s our experience. Desired car seat was $140 at Amazon and $150 online at BRU. Seemed worthwhile to go through the trade-in process to get 25% off but at the store they have raised the price to $170 and won’t honor the online price AND give 25% off. 25% off of $170 is $127.50, a little cheaper than Amazon but when you consider the trade-in value and time to go to the store the Amazon deal comes out on top. I’ve had other similar experiences with BRU and really dislike their business model. We’ll only shop there as a last resort from now on.

    • Samantha

You can ask them for the online code coupon and order it online at the service desk and still use the 25% off. Plus free shipping from ordering it in store. We just did this earlier this week for a new car seat.

  18. janet

I want to trade in our carseat but I know longer have the stroller it came with as a set. can this still be used on the promotion For trade ins?

  19. Jessica

Does anyone know if you can take in an old crib mattress to get the coupon?

  20. Ruby

Hello do u guys know when is the next trade in? Thanks

  21. Ashley

I wanted to know when the next trade in event is going to happen? Will it be in July 2015 or soon after

  22. Jensine

Is it only 2015 or do they do it every year?
