I got this 5 years ago with my first and 3 babies later I still love it! It is easy to adjust for different body sizes and types. I just wish my kids weren’t so big at 6 months so I could have used it longer, but they are hard to carry this way when they get to the 25lb weight limit. I think a carrier is a must have for any new parents, plus it is manly looking enough for most men.

There are many great soft structured carriers that are more comfortable/supportive than the one shown, and have a higher weight limit (usually around 45lbs). I wore my last baby regularly in my Ergo until he was at least 18months, it was comfortable for both of us. I sil wears her 3 and 4 yos on her back in teh Ergo when they hike.

If you had the choice between an Ergo and a Bjorn… which would you choose??

    • melloddie

Ergo for sure. I got the BJorns with my oldest one. Then got the Ergo with my second one. There is no comparison. Ergo hands down!

    • Maria

      Eurgo! It’s better for baby.

    • Melissa

100% Ergo! The Bjorn is super uncomfortable for mom and baby compared to the Ergo.

    • Jen

I’d recommend an Ergo. Research has shown Ergos are so much better for developing babies, esp with their hips and legs.

    • Cara

Yes to Ergo! Bjorns are super uncomfortable, and I still carry my 2 year old comfortably in the Ergo!
As others said, research has shown that Bjorns are bad news for baby’s hips as well. The Ergo holds them in a completely different and safe position:)

    • S

Definitely Ergo- they’re much better for baby’s development and super comfy for mom/dad. Google Bjorn hip issues – these types of carriers termed “crotch danglers” are not recommended for babies.

    • Brianna

Depends how long you want to carry your child. The ergo goes up to 40lbs I think, so you could carry a 2-3 year old in it! The Bjorne is 25lbs. I liked the Bjorne because I didn’t want a wide strap around my waist (it is just a criss-cross back) and because my hubby and I moved it between us and it was easier to adjust from my 5’8 frame to his 6’6 frame. The ergo had the waist strap at the bottom of his rib cage and was awkward and constricting.

I loved my Ergo and would definitely choose it over the Bjorn (I also had one of those) for comfort but I did like the forward carrying position of the Bjorn when my kids got a little older and wanted to see what was going on around them.

      • Anna

Ergo now makes a carrier that has a forward-facing option: the Ergo 360!

What would you say is a good price for Ergo? Expecting a little one soon. TIA

    • Danielle

I got my organic Ergo at TJ Maxx for around $70, 2 years ago. They also carried the accessories. Facebook has groups you could check out, or Craigslist or ebay – new or second hand. There’s another carrier (the Tula I think) that has a huge following. Mamas are actually making money selling after they use them. I love my Ergo though. My 2 year old just outgrew it.

    • Danielle

I also see the Ergos at Target. They are on sale often, or will prompt a gift card for purchase.

    • Jen

Target has a gift card offer on Ergos this week. They don’t really go on sale though so that’s prob your best bet. Be very careful if you buy used- there are fakes out there that are not safe. I’d suggest buying new for peace of mind.

I got my Ergo on clearance on REI.com for $80. It’s a petunia pickle bottom print so a bit more spendy but cuter. They change the colors each year so they discount them out. It’s completely worth spending money on an Ergo. It’s very comfortable to wear for hours and my son just loves being snuggled up close. He just turned 1 so we are starting to try the back carrying which is great too.

    • Sarah

Keep an eye on babysteals.com as well, they sometimes have them. I would say anything under $100 is a reasonable price for an Ergo, and 100% worth it IMO. It’s such a versatile and long lasting carrier.

    • shalini

Thank you ladies for your input. I will definitely look out for one on clearance.

The ergo is the one baby item is keep of having to chose from EVERYTHING we got from the baby shower. It has been A lifesaver. I wear my daughter everywhere and for whatever reason the ergo puts her to sleep as soon as she’s in there.

  5. Diana

I saw it on Amazon for $46.99 just before for the original mesh & the blue & black one too. I love my babyjorn but I got the mesh miracle with extra back support. I use it when I go shopping & hiking. I used it for my baby a few times maybe 2x when they were a newborn & now they fit in it much better. It’s very easy to use & super light weight. It’s so easy to adjust between me 5’3″ & my husband 6″. My husband loves that it’s very breathable because it gets hot wearing a baby.

  6. Angie

I’ve used both…with my 1st baby used the bjorn & my last 3 babies the ergo. Ergo is the BEST by far….super easy to adjust & use as well as distributes the weight evenly for whomever is wearing baby & it’s way safer for baby’s spine & hips. Go with the ergo. It was the best purchase I made for my babes 🙂

    • Angie

I also LOVED the sleepy wrap. Very easy to use & the fabric was so nice & stretchy, yet secure & comfy for baby to toddler. Check out sleepy wrap, boba wrap or even the moby wrap too. So many awesome baby wearing options that are way better than the bjorn 🙂

  7. Ashley

The Ergo is great but you should try a Beco Gemini. They’re more comfortable than an Ergo and you don’t need an infant insert.

  8. cmghiorso

What Ashley said — I have both Ergo and Beco Gemini. (And used the Bjorn 4 times, at which point the front facing out option was too uncomfortable for my back and his crotch and we switched to hip carries with an Infantino Mei Tai which only costs $20). I love the Beco the most, it is more comfortable for tiny babies and was easier to put on than the Ergo in my opinion. 17 month son still loves the Beco.

There are actually quite a few options in addition to the Beco/Ergo. Any new babywearing parents should first see if there is a local babywearing group in their area. Feel free to check Babywearing on FB or TheBabyWearer.com

If you are fortunate to have a local group they typically have a ‘lending library” so you are actually able to see and compare and try on in person many of the more reputable carriers that are not typically found at Toys R Us or other local baby stores.

If you do not have a local babywearing group ask a lot of moms in your area first what carriers they have and maybe you can see/try theirs first. And search on google.
Great brands to lookj up in addition to those mentioned above:
    Kinderpack
    Tula
    Boba
and many more as you find as you start searching and reading others’ opinions/experiences.

one other comment about wearing your baby front facing outward is that young babies can often only handle direct stimulation for seconds.few minutes at a time which is why they may look you in the eye for a bit, but then need to turn away. When you wear your baby facing forward to the world you do not give him/her as much opportunity to turn away when he/she needs down time. Just things to think about.

lastly, keep the tags on and receipts until you get to try your new carrier and see if it is the right fit for you.
