I wonder where these Fire Departments are that are in need of TP? Part of my family comes from a long line of firefighters/EMTs and I never once heard any of them say, “Aw man, I have to work at that station with out the toilet pepper!”
I really think it’s just P&Gs PR/advertisement. They also make Duracell that are supposedly donated to emergency workers and during kids Christmas toy drives. It people feel good that the company is donating and all they have to do is print/use a coupon. I don’t really see a down side to this one. Though I have no personal experience if heard that some fire departments can be a little under funded and if free toilet paper means they can put that money towards life saving gear I’m all for it.
There are many fire departments facing deep cuts. Detroit’s fire department is in deporable shape. They have to use radios to get calls. This was after their fax machine and tin can method stopped due to all phones, etc being turned off in stations around the city.
The reality in comparasion to Europe, fire fighters in the states are at great personal danger. State side fire fighters lack technologically advanced equipment, gear and techniques that would drastically bring down year LODD numbers. The IAFF is hindering this much needed progress.
