Happy Friday: Frugal Mother’s Day Gift Idea
Sent from reader, Sarah:
I love your blog! You’ve been helping me save money since 2008 and Hip2Save is my most frequently checked site (yes, even more than Facebook!)
Thanks to the recent First Aid kit/Bandaid deal you posted for Target, I ended up with two of the first aid kits. They are really cute and nice quality. That was perfect because I have two Mother’s Day gifts to put together, one for my wonderful mom and one for my fantastic big sis.
I wanted to give them something they would get a lot of use out of so I assembled these on-the-go kits for them to stash in their glove compartments. The total cost was right around $5 each. I split a bag of Cherry Ludens from a previous deal for the mesh bag, included several packages of travel sized tissues each from the dollar store (splitting a $1 bag), included a package of wet wipes from the Target travel section and, for the splurge, a bottle of Honest Company hand sanitizer. That was $2.99 minus a 10% off Cartwheel. I love being able to give the most important women in my life a cute gift that I know they will get a lot of use out of. Thanks for the deals Collin!
HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

Love this! I just did this deal today with the free bag…great idea!
This is a great idea!!
Very clever. I think the Darth Vader band aids are a hoot.
It is always great to get presents like these.
Great gift! It would make it really good teacher appreciation gift too. When I taught, pre-k, I always asked for girl and boy Band-Aids, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, things like that to keep in our first aid kit.
Adorable, inexpensive and thoughtful all at the same time. Great job! Happy Mother’s Day mamas!
You r such a sweet sister! I really want that kit, but my store only had the red one. (Have that already) 🙂
Random.
? Random what?
Great idea! Nice to have some necessities in one place.
Right on Nicole.
I’d LOVE receiving something this, and totally rather have them over flowers. Great idea, Sarah!
Thanks for the sweet comments everyone 🙂 I made these more as an on-the-go kit than an actual first aid kit. Just the kind of things that are nice when you’re out and about, especially with kids. I have a 7 year old and 2 year old and these are the kind of things I usually need when we’re out and about.
I love the Target first aid kits! They’re really high quality, pretty slim, and have lovely designs. I keep one in my car as an actual first aid kit but I never really use it since I’m a college student and usually drive alone. I keep scissors and tape in there if I ever get a loose thread or a small tear on clothing though. I would give a gift like this to my mom and aunt but they probably have something like this already since they’re so organized. 😛
Great gift. I would add some quarters too. Also hunting for one for Aldi or a parking meter.
Thanks for this idea. I already have a first aid kit but didn’t think to make an on-the-go kit. May have to go back to Target today. My mom would like something like that. And she is always asking me for an emory board. I would stick a couple of those in there too.
This comment was in reply to a rude comment left by someone else, so it doesn’t make sense now. Thanks H2S for deleting the rudeness.
Sarah, I think this is adorable and very sweet and thoughtful!
What a nice gift!
