Sent from reader, Laura:

I’ve followed Hip2Save for almost 5 years. Recently I moved to Korea and figured most of my couponing was over :(. One day, I went to one of the larger markets and was excited to find coupons! I didn’t know they did coupons here! Of course I had to use one! I can’t read the coupon but I got the exact item pictured. And no problems at checkout! I saved $.04! No that was not a typo – $.04.

HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

Haha can’t believe they took the time & money to print that!

    • CWDSouza

Tha could be due to currency conversion

      • laura

        Yes, due to currency conversion.

  2. Jennifer

    Oh my, how neat!

  3. Ella

    That’s 40 cents, not 4.

    • laura

This wasn’t the actual coupon I used, I didn’t take a picture of that one. This coupon would be less than $.30.

  4. FosterMom

I never managed to find coupons in Korea, but they did have lots of free samples at the supermarkets.

  5. Vanessa

4 cents, wow, I wonder how much it cost to print that coupon.

I lived in the middle east in Jordan for a bit and was ecstatic when I found out a lot of the grocery stores have coupons. Most of them are like spend $30 and get a free vegetable oil. Woo!! Was so excited when I found it. lol

    • eunice

wow, i’m glad to have encountered people here who are not just into coupons but korean dramas as well 🙂

      • Maryam

Wow. Nice to meet others who have been to Jordan. Going there in 3 weeks!

    • HI2NC

lol My parents are completely addicted to K dramas! Have you used Drama Fever to watch K dramas?

      • laureen

Lol. I love Korean dramas! I watch a lot of anime and some how I ended up watching a drama. It all started with Lie to Me. I watch dramas through hulu and netflix. Dramafever seems to sub everything.

      • lily

Yes! I cancelled Netflix and use Drama Fever for my addiction 😱

    • Candace Parker

OMG, me too! I loved Lie to Me, but they don’t have it anymore. Just finished In Search of Romance.

    • donna

My daughter loves South Korea! She enjoys the music, K-POP!

You have to think the exchange rate is huge in Korea.. So 4 cents USD is a lot more.

    • David

South Korean disposable income PPP was ranked 11th in the world in 2012, right on par with the UK and ahead of the likes of Germany, France, Italy, etc. Four cents in South Korea buys about 6 cents worth in the US.

      • Sara

I second David’s remark. I have found that the cost of living in Seoul mirrors what I pay outside of DC (where the cost of living is higher than much of the US). Awesome to see Korean couponers! 😀

I did a groupon in Korea for a perm when I lived there. While my korean was good enough to figure out the website, I did run a bit of a language barrier at the salon. When I first got there an employee tried speaking to me in Korean. When I didn’t understand, she took me into the office and looked all serious which made me worried that I had misunderstood the deal. Turns out she just wanted to make sure I realized that the groupon didn’t include tax but was unsure of her English skills so she wanted to tell me in private so others couldn’t overhear her. LOL! Afterwards though I was super proud of myself for managing to snag the awesome deal!
