Looking to have some unique family-friendly fun while also getting some exercise? Then be sure to check out The Color Run’s 2015 Shine Tour! Also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet :D, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race (love that!) in which participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. Plus, the fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Color Festival,” using even more colored powder to create millions of vivid color combinations. The Color Run caters to all ages – kids and adults alike and to all levels – first time runners to professional athletes (in fact, over 60% of Color Runners are first-time 5k runners!).
For a limited time, Hip2Save readers can head here, choose a race (choose from over 100 locations across the country!) and then use the promo code MLC625781 at checkout to save $5 off any race registration. This promo code is valid for ANY city that is not sold out (with the exception of newly launched cities); however, note that most races do sell out so be sure to sign up now to secure your spot.

On a side note, I ran The Color Run Race in Boise last year along with my hubby and kiddos, my sister, Bryn and her family, and my good friend Erica and her family. We had such a great time – this race is extremely family-friendly and geared for all ages – there were families with strollers, teenagers, grandparents, college students etc. My kids especially loved the after-party – they had a great time dancing to the music and participating in the color throws (and loved throwing paint directly on their mom! 😉 ). One word of advice – bring towels with you so that the interior of your car does not look like a giant rainbow. And plan on scrubbing colors out of your ears, nose, scalp, toes etc.![/h2s_box]
If you have never participated in The Color Run, I highly encourage you to check it out and see if a race is coming to a city near you.
Running and happy do not belong together. Hahahahhaha 😀
LOL! 😉
My husband is a runner and I’m not. He wants me to do a 5k with him and I’m wondering if I could handle this?! LOL Do people actually run the entire thing or can you walk too?
Last summer when we did it, it seemed like there were more walkers than runners. Lots of kids too! Very fun!
When my husband and I did a local 5K race last summer, we followed a 2 month training prep, mostly b/c it had been y.e.a.r.s! since we ran. I was really helpful! But you can def walk.
There’s a program called couch to 5k. Don’t know the length- maybe a month but it consists of run/ walk combo ( run 1 min. Then walk 3 mins) and gradually builds til you do more running than walking. My friend did it.
Walked this with friends last year and had a ball! It’s family friendly too 🙂
Walked the whole time last year. It is super casual and TONS of fun! No need to worry about being fast at all–it’s all about getting out there and having a great time!
And just to add to the casual vibe–it’s not even timed, so there is not an emphasis on winning or anything like that.
This code isn’t working for me 🙁
Hi Jessica this is Michelle from The Color Run. Which city are you trying to get the code to work on? If it’s a newly launched city it won’t work, because new cities launch with special VIP pricing anyway that is better than the $5 off price on a regular admission. But let me know which city and i’ll make sure.
Tallahassee, FL. I went on ahead and completed my registration without it. :/
I just looked up Tallahassee and it looks like it did just launch so luckily you are getting the best pricing on that right now. Smart to get in on it before the prices go up. I hope you have an amazing time!
Last week in Taiwan there was a fire explosion caused by colored powders. Powder could cause explosion and fire. Please see news below.
https://www.cnn.com/2015/06/29/asia/taiwan-water-park-explosion/
I’ll stick with the Bubble Run!
I am from Taiwan and was so sad when I saw the news. 494 injured (1 died) and most of them are students from 12-21 years old. Powder like flour, corn starch even formula powder could cause explosion and fire in airtight space. It should be ok for the color run since it is in a open space but really need to avoid anything that could cause fire or heat.
Very sad. It could have been a safe and fun color party. However people who organized it did not warn the crowd of the danger and did not ban smoking. They jammed thousands of people in a small space meant for hundreds… 🙁 Prayers…
Does anyone know if you are running with a stroller if it is easy to clean after the color run?
I saw people with strollers but I think they would be difficult to get the color out. My shoes and clothes washed out pretty well. I actually tried spraying my shirt with vinegar and ironing to set the color in but it didn’t work.
Britt, maybe reconsider bringing a baby to this and have them inhale all this colored powder into their lungs? My teens said they couldn’t breathe at the end and I’m not letting them go again…
Curious about the clean up. Does your clothing and shoes get ruined from the colors? Do they wash out?
It washes out pretty well. My white tshirt still had a hint of color but no biggie. I would highly recommend safety glasses and a bandana to go over your nose and mouth when going though the “clouds.”
Please wear a mask and protect your airway
I did this one this spring, and a couple recommendations/cautions: The glitter was on the road and EXTREMELY slick! Please be careful at the end! Also, take wipes! Water will NOT get the color off at the end. It will, however, help the color smear onto steering wheels nicely. Trust me…take wipes! If you can, consider wearing two layers. I put a spaghetti strap tank top on underneath. I’m a little too self conscious to normally wear that, but I was able to take off my Color Run shirt, put it in a plastic bag, and drive home in a much less colored shirt. It also meant less color in my car! Also, the die hards will be in line at the front. If you’re not going for a time (they’re usually timing on their watches, as the course itself isn’t timed), don’t try to be the first one on the course. You’ll find people in the middle to back go at a much more leisurely pace. 🙂 But really, go into it knowing what it is, and aim to have fun! People will be laughing and joking around. They’ll be sharing color with each other. Just keep a positive attitude, and you’ll really enjoy it. We started with Zumba before the run. And had a concert afterwards. It was really a blast! (I will also say there was another one with a similar name. Do NOT get them confused! This one was WAY better!) 🙂
The $5 off code for Salt Lake City, UT is TCRSLC2
Has anybody done the color run that had prescription glasses? What do you recommend? Thanks!!
I wear glasses and just wore them without even considering another option. I had no issues at the color run with them. However, I had my children with me and we were not running.
