I love it when companies try to outdo each other as it can make for great deals for consumers!

As I have mentioned several times, Amazon will be hosting Prime Day this Wednesday, July 15th, and is promising to offer up hot deals on electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more.

In anticipation of this big day, Walmart just announced that you’ll find awesome deals beginning this week at Walmart.com along with some special atomic deals AND Walmart has rolled back the free shipping minimum order to $35 from $50! Sweet! For more information, check out Walmart’s blog post here.

    Awesome!!!

Although I am going to scope out these deals (mostly the Prime ones), did anyone else like it better when Black Friday really was one day a year? Lol. Now we get multiple days a year, and Black Friday seems to run almost all of thanksgiving week. I love a good deal….but still.

    • cheapcheapgoesthemommy

I haven’t black friday shopped since i was scooping out 4 bikes at walmart and had to chase them to three walmart. Those days are LONG over…click it’ ship it! I kept rolling over Kmart pts last year so much so that I think I only purchased one item from Walmart. Couldn’t beat the 2day shipping from kmart 🙂

      • Rebecca

I didn’t necessarily mean actually going to stores for Black Friday, I haven’t done that in many years. I mean even online they used to do a whole lot less of these “special” sales.

        • Kristy

          I agree Rebecca!

    • Erin

IDK–I’m rarely excited by Black Friday deals, so the more “sales” there are, the more likely I’ll actually find an item I want/need.

    • Steph

I think that the deals were much better when it was only 1 day – both in store and online.

Amazon Prime seems wonderful – in theory; but I have to agree with Walmart here. Why should we have to pay to save? Although – it’s a bit hypocritical since Walmart and Sam’s Club have the same owners and there is a membership fee to Sam’s. Personally; I can’t justify either membership since I don’t know that my savings/year would add up to the fee/year. What I DO love is being a Staples Rewards member – free shipping on EVERYTHING with no fee. We don’t have a Staples in our area so it’s a lifesaver for me. I also LOVE my Target RedCard which gives me 5% off AND free shipping with no fee. I understand that companies need to make money – and I understand that it’s worth it for some people/some families – but I tend to wait for free shipping offers throughout the year. Just my two cents 🙂

We dropped cable, when we joined Amazon Prime. $8 per month for TV, music, and two day shipping is well worth it for us. They’ve been offering $1 credits (for books, TV, music), if you choose a slower shipping speed.

      • Hollie

Totally agree!! We did the same and ditched our cable. I also think Amazon gives access to so many more products than Walmart does

      • Atlanta

Can you email me more about this please or tell me where I can go to read up on it? I’m the add-on member for prime can I still get this? My cable bill just went over $100 per month and I can’t justify that since I never watch it…

        • Amanda

Add on members only get access to the two day shipping benefit. My dad buys prime for me for Christmas each year and I share the shipping benefits, then give him my log in so he can use the Prime TV. I’m not sure who you share with, but maybe you can work out the same deal?

        • Diane

          Atlanta
I am surprised your cable is so high. My son lives in Atlanta and he pays around $40.00/month for his cable. He calls in every time his new customer special is about to expire and tells them he is going to cancel and they give it to him again. Sadly as the add on member you can’t get the Prime TV benefit. However, Netflix is about $10.00/month. We don’t have cable but we do have internet. I am the Prime member so I have both Amazon TV and Netflix and they are both great.

          • Atlanta

Thanks for the tip! I’ll call them tomorrow and say I’m going to cancel. (And I live in Iowa.. my cable was $60 and now the promotional period is over). My mom is the primary member so I’m sure she’ll give me the password to just use the tv. Heck she might appreciate this info also.

    • Mika

I agree. I don’t have Prime because it just doesn’t make sense for me. I don’t have time to watch the free movies or read the free ebooks and I don’t order often enough to make good use of the free shipping. Most often anything I need is either cheaper or the same price at the Walmarts close to me.

      • Steph

One of the main reasons I love Amazon Prime has to be 2 day shipping plus we save money having Prime even though we pay for it. We have ordered replacement parts for our Cub Cadet mower that have cost anywhere from $10 to $40 less per part and when your mower breaks it is nice to know it will arrive in 2 days(sometimes 1) and you don’t have to search everywhere for it and then pay so much more plus wait for the store to order it. Our heating element went out in our dryer and we got the part in 2 days for $30 from Amazon where as if we would have went 45 minutes across town we would have paid $52 plus tax. These are just a couple examples but there are so many more. I love Prime!

    • Jaclyn

amazon is amazing! I have two under two and it is stressful to head to the store. I love being able to get great deals on groceries, toiletries and hard to find items shipped quickly. I use prime movies, music, and free ebooks.
Honestly I’d pay just for the great customer service. It seems like every time I walk out of Walmart I’m upset over the lack of service. $99 a year to not have to deal with rude employees is a steal. I love to shop in store at target but even they can be frustrating with online order customer service. I am happy to give money to a company like Amazon that provides a top notch experience.

    • jackie

no your two cents is exactly right. I live in a rural town. my daughter has to drive 2 hrs to shop in malls. so your staples is correct as is target. thats the only way I shop is on line with free shipping only or I do not do it. also kohls I was able to use 4 coupon codes making it a crazy deal. bealls too. thats how my grandkids get clothed or garage sales.stopped amazon a long time ago when they raised their rates. only time I go to store is for groceries.

    • rljohnston1974

I can see how it’s worth it for those of you who use it for cable. However, we can’t get rid of DirecTV because my husband would absolutely DIE (not really 😉 ) without NFL Sunday ticket 😉

      • tia

No, you’re right. I know a few men that might start hyperventilating if they couldn’t watch the Sunday ticket! Lol

      • Ivan

I have Dish and use Amazon Prime for the movies. I have no intentions of dropping Dish either, but save by not having to subscribe to any pay channels like HBO, etc. I think in a few years, cable and satellite TV as we know it will be gone. Instead you will sign up for only the channels you want and pay a small fee.

        • Diane

          Ivan,
Single channels or small bundles is how they price TV in some of the European countries.

    • michelle

I cancelled my prime I had a lot of problems with amazon and they outsource their customer service, it was hard to deal with their customer service out in India.

  4. Amanda

    What’s an atomic deal?

  5. Paty

    I’m with you Rebecca.

  6. neil

I’d much rather deal with the customer service of Amazon. I am currently on the phone with Walmart and got hung up on 2 times instead of answering the phone.

    • neil

now i’m intentionally letting the phone ring 100+ to annoy them, haha

      • Mika

        LOL!

    • Megan

Amazon’s customer service is worth the price of prime!

      • Casey

You are so right about that, Megan!

  7. Angela

I see it that every time I order from Wal-Mart, I either have to spend $50 or pay a shipping fee of $7 or so. So for me the Amazon Prime saves me a lot of hassle, because I hate dealing with Wal-Mart in stores.

  8. barbara

Hoping for an atomic deal on a wii u and tv! But i doubt it.

  9. Jay

Wal-Mart sucks. Quit whining about paying $100 to have access to deals. It’s a special sale to promote something, plus Prime has free 2-day shipping, and streaming movies, and TV, and original programming, and music, etc, etc. Meanwhile giant hypocrite Wal-Mart has pay-to-play Sam’s Club and is starting a $50/year shipping service with none of the Amazon perks and all of the poor Wal-Mart customer service.

    • K

Totally agree with you. I’ll skip the 15 minute check out line with people that don’t care to be there.

  10. Queenmum

I have had nothing but Excellent customer service from Walmart.com. My items don’t arrive smashed like they do from Amazon. I’m excited to see what deals Walmart offers 🙂

    • kidsallgone

Customer service/cashiers at the store is WAYYYY different than online for Walmart (at least in my experiences). Wayyyy better service/attitude online 🙂

  11. Lexy

I believe target is doing similar as well I saw something. Like that today on their website when I ordered this morning my Target box thanks to you☺😉😄

  12. Lisa

Amazon Prime for Students is only $49 a year. We have an Amazon Firestick so Prime is beyond worth it for our family. I

    • Swirlypop

That’s what we have. I joined Amazon prime when my kids started college. Definitely worth the $49 a year. We watch lots of movies and I order things every week because it is cheaper than shopping locally.

  13. katy

target is doing a black friday thing currently too.. a lot of buy one get one 50% off.. pretty good deals for not having to go out to do the shopping

    • Anna

I was just reading the prime comments. Note sure if all of you know this, but you can split prime 4 ways, so we split it between 4 families and only pay $25. The movies are not included if you split but that is okay with me, i use it for everything else.

      • Diane

Technically you are suppose to only share Amazon Prime with family members who live in the same household. Why most families would need 4 memberships all shipping to the same house doesn’t make any sense to me. I did share my Prime with my kids who no longer live at home and I also do all my mom’s online shopping because she doesn’t trust the internet.

  14. Sara

Ok, Walmart, show us the deals!

  15. Sherri

Prime is totally worth it and Amazon Student allows you to get the Prime membership at 50% off. ($49 membership fee). You get a 6 month free trial, and lots of extra discounts and drawings for student members. Amazon has the best customer service by far! If you’re interested in joining https://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info?ie=UTF8&refcust=4HTCJQMCXUNSLIUIZB7P5EC55I&ref_type=generic. They also offer Amazon Mom which gives you a 20% discount on subscriptions for diapers and wipes.

  16. Sasha

Our family is looking forward to both sales!! Anyone have any insider info on electronics on sale?

  17. Ivan

This just shows you how much Amazon is hurting Walmart. Kinda nice to see Walmart get a taste of it’s own business since they have killed local businesses for years.

  18. K

It’s funny. Amazon has lightning deals way better than Wal-Marts prices ever are and by the time prime early access is over it’s nearly if not already sold out. Everyone without prime complains. I like my 1 day prime delivery on things I would have to go into Wal-Mart and price match because they are more expensive. Which would take at least an hour between driving and standing in line at their ONE cashier. Come on 1/28 lanes open all day long? I stopped going to Wal-Mart a long time ago for 99% of things it’s just not worth the hassle.

Unless they offer me 1 day delivery and better prices then my membership is worth it and I will stay loyal to Amazon who’s CS bends over backwards to keep me happy. I even got a $20 credit once for a mistake that was a different sellers and had nothing to do with them at all.

  19. Susie

Pretty Funny…considering I just got an email from Walmart “You’re invited! Shipping Pass Pilot just $50 a year for free 3 day or less shipping. No minimum orders, Unlimited Deliveries”…………

  20. Jane

honestly, i am going to shop Amazon’s prime pay because of their great customer service. In my experience, dealing with Walmart has never been pleasant and Amazon has always been great with price adjustments and so much more. I really hope there will some amazing deals on wednesday!

  21. Mary

I love amazon, and their website is super fast, i find that walmart website is slow and inconvenient, also they advertise low low prices but in our area generally they are the highest
