How is amex as a cc? Ive been considering it but concerned about fees.

    • Jennifer

Debi – they have lots of no annual fee cards. I love Amex! They are always putting out great promotions, like Small Business Saturday.

    • Just me

I have the blue card and it doesn’t have fees. The only reason I signed up for it is because of Costco. I prefer my chase freedom card over the amex as the points system is way better. I get a lot more points for purchases that I redeem for gift cards, cash back, etc. and with amex it takes forever to get points even though I spend a lot on it. The interest rate is also lower on the chase freedom card. I’ve had fraud charges on both and amex was really slow in resolving it. I’m the type that pays everything with a CC and pays it off every month to get rewards though.

Costco is dropping Amex at the end of the year. Going to visa

Debi, I have the blue cash preferred, which has an annual fee, but it’s totally worth it. I get 6% back on groceries (up to $6000 in spending per year) and 3% back on gas, plus all the other promos they do. Last year I calculated it and I got over $800 in cash back. I can’t remember if the annual fee is $75 or $150, but as I said, for me it’s more than worth it!

Thank you guys for the information 🙂 I may check them out shortly. So far I have Discover and Chase..they offer rewards but AMEX always seems to offer these extra rewards.

Hi Debi, I have a no annual fee American Express card, and it’s my favorite credit card to use. I used to strictly use my Chase card but the rewards on my Amex card are actually better since Chase now rotates the higher percentage reward categories in 3 month periods (ie. 5% back on gas for January-March). I get 3% back on groceries, 2 % on gas and 1% on other purchases all the time & will never pay an annual fee. Plus, the special benefits like this Amazon deal make it all the better. If you are interested in checking into this card, I’d be really appreciative if you went through my referral link (I can send it to you, if you are interested). We would both get a $50 statement credit if you decide to sign up. Thanks! 🙂 Have a great day!

I have the same card and I LOVE it! It is the best card out there IF YOU PAY IT OFF EVERY MONTH. The interest rate is insane so not worth it if you carry a balance. I get about $1000 a year cash back on my card and have done Small Business Saturday several years in a row now + special rewards like this.

      • Austin

I would also recommend the Blue Cash Preferred. As long as you pay it off every month, there are great cash back rewards. I’ve been able to get about $500 cash back in one year just by using it to buy my groceries and gas. It more than makes up for the annual fee. Plus, you can take advantage of these awesome promos!

        • Nicole

I have the Blue Cash Everyday card with no annual fee. I just checked in my account and it requires you to email the referral link (doesn’t just give one to post). If you go through the link to sign up for the card you actually get a $100 statement credit after using the card for 3 months. If anyone is interested in checking it out, I’d be happy to send you the link if you wanted to give me your email address. Thanks!

What is the difference between the blue American Express card and the American Express that is the clear card I get cash back on that too… Is that different card

    • Rachel

I have the Delta Card. If you make $1000 in purchases the first 3 months, you get $300 off a airline ticket. Plus you get free bags and $50 statement credit after your first purchase! $o introductory fee for the first year, then $95 after that. But if you travel, this is a awesome card! If you want me to, I can send you info on this, as i get rewarded too for sharing! my email is destinationunlimited6@gmail.com

      Debi,
Amex is a wonderful card to have. There are many to choose from. The biggest thing with any credit card is that you pay it off each month. First you need to decide what perk suits your family the best. There are 2 Blue Cash Everyday cards. One with a $75.00 fee and one without the yearly fee. The difference is the 1 with the fee gives you 6% back on your first $6,000.00 in grocery store purchases. FYI Walmart isn’t considered a grocery store. And 3% on gas and some department stores and 1% on everything else. And the no fee card gives you 3% back on grocery stores, 2% on gas and some department stores, and 1% on everything else. You can purchase gift cards at the grocery store to extend your 3% or 6% to restaurants and department stores.
If you want a card to earn points for travel I would consider the Starwood Amex. It does take a long time to collect points however you do receive at least a 30,000 point bonus after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months. A few times a year the bonus miles goes up to 50,000. They have a Flights and Nights program where you receive 50,000 airline miles and 5 nights in category 3 hotel for 60,000 points or 50,000 air miles and 5 nights in a category 4 hotel for 70,000 points. For example, the Swan and Dolphin hotels at Disney World are category 4 depending on the airline you choose you can have 2 round trip flights and a 5 night free for 70,000 points.
Amex also offers extended warranties on all purchases and 90 day purchase protection.
And no I don’t work for Amex but I have used many of these benefits myself.

Not happy with Amazon service with my last 3 shopping experiences.. In one, item delivered was broken and had deal with their help-desk to return it back.. In my last shopping experience, they claim that item (Order 404-4524779-1660327) was delivered, even though I didn’t receive it.. Delivery is made to someone “Noor Ahmaed”. I filed claim multiple times, but every time it has been turned down.. Very very disappointing..

  2. Lindsey

Not me! Bummer – I wish I knew what qualifies you for these offers

    • Lindsey

I have the blue card and love! I get lots of offers but just dont seem to ever have the amazon

    • Julie

Lindsey – me either. =( Maybe because I have a SPG card.

  3. Jen

I’m assuming this doesn’t apply to store amex cards. I have s disney amex and I can’t find any offers.

    • Lori

I would say that is true.We have a blue card and have the offers. I tried to add our Macy’s american express as another card I could access with the same log-in. (and therefore have offers too) . Received the message that it was a store card, couldn’t be added, but is accepted wherever American Express is.

  4. Kristen

    I had $15 off $30 – Thanks Colin!!! Wouldn’t have ever looked 🙂

    • nicolegammeter

      Woo Hoo! 🙂

  5. Beth

Thanks! Haven’t checked it for a while. I got spend $30 get $15 back!

    • nicolegammeter

      Awesome! 🙂

  6. mary

I have the costco amex. Did not get it! Bummer! Besides small business saturday and a shutterfly credit, it seems I rarely use the credits offered.

  7. Serena

    Didn’t get get😕

  8. marlene

I believe beginning next yr costco will no longer be using amex. Thats the only reason i use got mine once they take it away ill just cancel my card. I didnt have to pay any annual fees with that card and amex is sending me offer for new cards in the mail since they know costco will not be using them any longer.

  9. SS

I got it last time they offered, but not this time. Thanks for letting us know about it though!

    • nicolegammeter

      You bet! 🙂

  10. Melissa

I have the Hilton Honors Amex, (love it, hilton points rack up so fast and we are able to vacation for free), and didn’t get it either. I did get a Gap $15 off of $75 which will help with back to school shopping.

  11. Guacho Nieto

    Not on my Delta Amex.

  12. Molly

Not on my blue cash card

  13. Amanda

Woo-hoo I got spend $15 get $15 back!!! I finally just realized where to find these promotions lol

  14. Annie

Any idea if I can buy Amazon gift card with this promotion?

    • Jennifer

Yes, you can. As long as it’s at least $15, you will get the credit. I do it all the time.

      • Annie

        Thank you!

  15. Lori

Wonder how they decide. My blue card had it, but my husband’s does not. Thanks for the heads up Collin. I never remember to check.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’r welcome 🙂

  16. Brenda

The 3 best things about American Express: An extra year warranty on many items – they bought me a washer when it died 1 week after the manufacturers warranty. They refunded a non refundable airline ticket when I wasn’t able to use it and the airlines had no pity for me. If you sign up for the car rental program and use your card, the rental insurance is extremely cheap compared to what the facility would charge you.
