I read the comments on the first post for this deal and have one question.
Can you add more memory to the kids version? That seemed to be a recurring issue that caused the tablet to run slowly.

A full-featured Fire tablet that includes a 1024 x 600 IPS display that’s perfect for watching movies like Frozen, plus a fast quad-core processor that ensures quick app launch times and smooth games and video. The Fire Kids Edition tablet comes in black (with a blue or pink Kid-Proof Case), 8 GB with and expandable storage capacity up to 128 GB with microSD, and a 7-inch display

I ordered one for my little boy and got a 32g memory card to go with it!

I’m wondering if 8gb is enough to download movies and shows? We primarily use tablets for traveling with kids and need to have storage for a few shows.

    • Carmen

I don’t know about the new version, but on the last kids version, the operating system took up over half of the memory space. At least with this version, there’s a slot to add additional memory.

I got this for my kids last year. It is a great tablet for them, and does pretty much everything. HOWEVER, 8gb is definately not enough to run their “free-time” app. Basically if they download more than 4-5 games in “free-time” their kindle freezes up and I would have to go and delete the games. I got tired of doing this and don’t use “free-time” anymore. You can’t delete “free time” from the kindle but it uses much less memory if it is not active. The kids can download apps from amazon’s store, and at times it does get full but it’s not as much of a hastle to delete apps.

The 8gb is not expandable. The 2 year replacement is what I basically bought it for. The kids love them and use it all the time, they are also very rough with them and we have had no issues.

      Thanks for sharing 🙂

      This one has expandable memory.

Can you tell me if the kids Free Time thing is worth it? I guess that would be the only benefit of choosing this one over the cheaper one for my kids. My girls will be almost 4 & 6 at Christmas. How much is it if they want it longer than a year? Do you know if you can buy it separately for the cheaper new Fire?

FYI I just ordered the non-kids version for $49.99, and it’s telling me that even with prime 2-day shipping this item won’t arrive until Oct. 27th. Kind of a bummer but I guess for that price it’s worth the wait.

  5. Brandi

The new version of the 8 GB IS expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card.

  6. Pat

Is this a great price? Or will we see a lower price around the holidays?

  7. cac

I thought for the kids version you can’t add memory card but the regular u can

    • cac

      Nevermind

  8. kasey

I order the regular tablet for my kids and the 32 gb memory card I want a cover but the one suggusted doesn’t look sturdy enough

    • Heidi

They sell the kid proof cases separate, just search Amazon FreeTime Kid-Proof Case for Amazon Fire (5th Generation – 2015 release)

8 GB is nothing if you are trying to store movies on the device (each movie is a couple of gigs.) Some conditions, you might be able to store it on an external SD card. However, Disney Movies Anywhere doesn’t let tablet owners change their settings to store movies on the SD card (instead of internal drive.) Can only download to SD card on cell phones and Chromebook (and you can’t download and then transfer the SD card, won’t work, we tried.) Which is a total bummer for Disney Movie lovers, like us. People need to complain to Disney about this issue, otherwise, we will all be at the mercy of only being able to download two or three movies at a time. It can stream over the wifi though and will be good for using apps!

So will the price go up tomorrow for sure?

    • Amy

I called Amazon the other day and the rep told me No, they will not increase in price after tomorrow. He suggested preorder to guarantee I’ll get one. I want 2 at this price but would like to wait till I save enough SwagBucks to buy them.

      • AW

        Thanks!

    • Rebecca

I really doubt it. Today is just the last day to pre-order….just because it comes out tomorrow lol.
