No you have to push it. It rocks back and forth. Batteries not included. I think it is 6 D.

This toy is awesome! First toy that interested my baby enough to lift his head up to see. Now 8 months he pushes it all around the place and scoots around after it. My 3 year old love to lay it on its side and spin it as fast as she can. Definitely recommend!
