Amazon Trade-In

Do you have old textbooks, electronics, video games or CD’s collecting dust on your shelves or taking up space in your closet? If so, you may want to take note of Amazon.com’s Trade-In Program where you can trade in eligible phones, books, DVD’s, cameras and much more AND Amazon will give you a gift card in return!

Here’s how it works…

Amazon Trade-in

* Head over here and find out if your item(s) is eligible for trade-in and how much it is worth (you can search by title or keyword)

* Add the trade-in item to your trade-in cart by clicking on the Trade-In Here button

* You’ll then be prompted to select the condition of the item (choose from Like New, Good and Acceptable)

* If you find the trade-in value to be acceptable, you’ll then be prompted to choose the shipping method and return address. Just print the shipping label, affix it to your box and then bring the box to your local UPS store or USPS drop off location (and Amazon.com will pay for all the costs!).

* Be sure to ship your items within 7 calendar days of submitting the trade-in.

* If your submission is accepted, an Amazon.com Gift Card for the value of your trade-in will appear in your Amazon account, generally within 2 business days. Your gift card payment is automatically added to the available balance on your account so you don’t need to redeem any claim codes or wait for gift cards in the mail. It’s that easy!

Come back and let us know if you have ever participated in the Amazon Trade-In Program and if it worked well for you!

When you trade in something, what do they do to the item? I’m apprehensive to trade-in my electronics because someone for some reason may be able to access the deleted pictured I had in there. Yes, it’s possible.

    • Bre

You can always wipe your device and delete all the recently deleted pictures before you trade it that way your pictures can’t be recovered.

If you factory reset it I think you should be fine?

    • Vonda Borer

      Yes – factory reset.

I’ve been using this for a while now and I love it! I save up my gift cards and use them for Christmas!

I traded in my old Kindle which I thought didn’t work. I thought I would only get $5, but instead got over $23. Plus a $20 credit to use towards the purchase of another Kindle. The only thing I didn’t like was the $20 had to be used by a certain time and only on certain Kindles. I think they should give you 3 to 6 months to use it instead of 1 month and you should be able to get the Kindle of your choice. It was for the more expensive ones, which even with the $20, I could not afford. But I was happy with the amount I got back. They could have easily agreed it didn’t work and just given me the $5. It was old and I was looking to purchase a new one anyway, so I ended up getting a new one and all worked out.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience Kim! Glad to hear you received a larger amount than expected! Good to know!

WOW! Thats awesome! I just sent in my dead Kindle Fire for $5, too. Maybe I’ll get lucky and it will be worth more! I was offered 20% off my next kindle purchase ranginging on Kindles starting at $49. But I’m not sure yet how long it is til it expires.

I use this program to trade in college textbooks. They normally have a decent trade in value on textbooks, but I have had issues with the time it takes for your trade in to be processed. I realize there are busier times, i.e. right after fall/spring semester ends, but I’ve sent in books in the middle of a semester only to have to email and call customer service because they still haven’t processed my trade in after a month since I sent it in.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sorry to hear that the trade in has taken so long! Thanks for the feedback!

    • Tina

I like trading in my textbooks too. While it can take them awhile to process, it’s still better than trying to sell them myself on eBay.

I was considering doing this for my iPhone 5s but researched it and there was a lot of bad reviews where they significantly downgrade your device. Some people had nearly new phones with no flaws and instead of excellent they got good for example which gives you a lot less money. If it’s something of somewhat value I’d research it first.

We’ve been using this for years. Love it!

I used this for an old phone we found while cleaning. Tried it through sprint trade in first and they wouldnt give us anything for it. So when it said it would give me $3 and change on amazon i went ahead with it! Amazon trade in was fast at getting me the $3 and kept me notified throughout the process. I would definitely use it again!!

  8. Tracy

I have also used this for trading in my textbooks. Worked very well.

  9. Jenn M

Sold the majority of my and my husband’s nursing program textbooks back. Made some major Amazon cash.
I’ve done movies, video games, DVD’s, Blu Rays and have been pleased. I’ll take a couple bucks in Amazon credit over just donating.

Is the Kindle promotion still valid? I have an old one that doesn’t work and my other Kindle but would love a Voyage or Oasis.

  10. Shea

I just found out I could trade in four of my old textbooks for $98 in Amazon credit if approved. Heck ya!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!!

I actually just found out about this program a few months ago. I went and cleaned out 7 textbooks that I didn’t need anymore and got $176 in gift card credit!!!! I thought that it was too good to be true but it wasn’t!!! I wish I still had that much but with all these good deals being posted…..lol 😉 I will say too that these were newer textbooks. I had a few from just a couple years ago and they weren’t offering anything for them. The fastest way for me personally to find out the trade in value was to just search for the item in the search bar, below the price it has a little box with a picture of a gift card and the amount you could earn. And what sweetens the deal even more is you can package them all together and print a prepaid label. Just drop off at a UPS location and they give you the tracking number to follow the package. This is so worth the time and effort to hunt items to key in and see what is being offered! Thanks Collin for all you do!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re very welcome Stephanie! Happy you could score such a great credit from your books! Thanks for sharing!

    • Lisha

Thx for taking the time to explain it detail.

Thanks! I had forgotten about this. I had done it before and was pleased. Just did a quick scan of my get it out of the house pile and found a book worth $7 in Amazon credit. YAY!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet find! YW!

I am going to try this, this week!

We traded in our camera since we use our phones now. It sat for so long we knew we needed to sell it. We were looking at the values amazon wanted to give us for the condition it was in. We were afraid they would give us the lowest value no matter the condition. Well we were wrong, they gave us the highest value available. It was in GREAT condition so we were very excited that they were honest and fair. We would definitely use again if we have something else like that to sell.
