I’m in pharmacy school and never heard of this

  2. Esra

I honestly dont know how safe this product is. I would not give it to my son.

  3. Julie

Isn’t this the same as melatonin which is a natural safe remedy

    • Melissa

Melatonin is a hormone, not sure how safe it is for kids

  4. Julie

My child’s Doctor actually recommends melatonin for my son because he has a hard time falling asleep Do to his ADHD It is a safe natural remedy and non habit forming.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for the feedback Julie!

  5. Jessica

It’s mostly just vitamin d3 and it only has 0.2 mg of melatonin in it

Melatonin should not be given to kids, regularly. It is natually made by your body, but the more you supplement it, the less your body will make on its own. This becomes a viscious cycle where you become dependent on it. People please do your own research before blindly following what your doctor says.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet? Have you seen that funny tv ad?

    • Julie

In my case it has to be done on school nights. My son will not fall asleep no matter what else I try and it disturbs his siblings sleep as well. It was either that or he flunk school. So for us we did the research and it works for us.

    • Brittany

Nicole, I agree. I believe Berkley did a study, along with one done in Europe and it was shown that long term use of melatonin can affect the sexual growth and puberty in children, especially boys. If I find the link, I will post.

    • rebecca

where is you source for this, Nicole?
if you are not a doctor, pharmacist, scientist, etc, then for people to believe you is no different that people blindly believing someone else they don’t know.
for those whose body ALREADY does not produce enough melatonin to induce sleep, and a medical problem disrupts the sleep cycle, then withholding melatonin WILL NOT cause the body to produce more.
i don’t expect people reading this thread to necessarily believe me either, but i know that the advice of 2 pediatricians, a neurologist, and a child psychiatrist who have reviewed my child’s personal situation and medical history have given us medical advice that works for us.
when you say “do your research,” part of sensible research is trusting licensed doctors who have a ton more specialized knowledge, training, and experience than i do, and i have no reason to suspect they intend to harm my child.
yes, it’s possible that some children are reliant on an artificial source of melatonin to sleep. just like i am dependent on artificial thyroid, and others are dependent on an outside source of insulin, or blood pressure medicine, etc. withholding that source will NOT cure someone’s medical issue.

        Well said. πŸ™‚

      • Julie

Thank you. I was starting to feel like I was being a bad parent.

      • Nicole Purvis

I don’t think it is unreasonable to say “Do your own research,” when you are giving your children a supplement. People forget that doctors are human. Not to mention 2 different doctors can have different opinions. So who do you trust then? Also no where did I mention that it shouldn’t ever be given. I was just advising caution if you plan on doing it “regularly,” Jeez people get so defensive. And for the record I have a lot of experience in the natural health field, as a supplement buyer. My job requires extensive training on these very subjects.

We were actually advised by our pediatrician to use 1mg of melatonin 1 hour prior to bedtime for my daughter that has trouble falling asleep. When I asked how long it was considered safe to take, she told me up to 3 years (which must be relevant to the timespan of a study).

      • thecents2save

I have to amend/edit my answer. Our doctor initially recommended a 3mg dose (9 year old) for up to 3 years, but I wasn’t comfortable with starting that high, so we used 1mg instead and have had amazing results. Just wanted to clarify.

        • Julie

I think you made a good call. I looked into the dosage 3mg is for adults my doc recommend 1mg for my 11 yo it works great

I use melatonin Sunday through Thursday and have on and off for years. As an adult with adhd, a medical condition that most can’t understand or even being to process unless they live with it, I’d say you should do your research prior to making medical claims. My psychiatrist, with a PH.D., states it’s necessary for some people, not only due to melatonin deficiencies but differently wired brains that won’t shut down on their own. It’s non addictive, safer than a sleeping pill, Benadryl (has the opposite effect on me) or other methods of inducing sleep. My brain isn’t as stimulated on the weekends so I don’t need to take it, generally just because of the work stimulus during the week. If it’s not something you’d consider for you or your family that’s perfectly acceptable however claiming researchers, medical professionals and the like are wrong broadly is just poor advice. We’re all adults here, generally intelligent and responsible as well, I’d venture to guess we do our research and consult those we trust before we give our family or ourselves anything.

Everyone needs to relax, I never advised anyone what to do. I just suggested doing your own research. Guess what, I actually work in a field where I recommend melatonin to people quite regularly! I love it, just not every day! I’ve taken it myself on occasion. Do you what the difference is though? When you get older you can stop producing as much, that is why it is often recommended to elderly people who actually need it. A child that has problems falling asleep possible may need melatonin, but I doubt it. Will it work? Yes, but that doesn’t mean there is some other issue causing sleep disturbances, such as magnesium deficiency, drinking sugary drinks, emotional stress, etc.

My vet prescribes 1 mg melatonin for my puppy when we travel so that he isn’t barking or crying. My previous vet for my last dog prescribed liquid benadryl and that had such lasting side effects that we started to board him instead of take him on vacation. My current puppy is absolutely fine after a long plane ride to Seattle. And he loves the taste of the pill too.

My daughter has been taking this on and off for over 5 months. Both her Primary care doctor and Neurologist cleared her for this. It is non habit forming and easily digestible. I also have worked in the medical field with children for over 20 years and agree that you should always talk to your doctor before starting something new with your children but some of the nasty comments on here were uncalled for. Every child is different and not all products work on each child. Only YOU and your doctor know your child so talk with them. Enjoy!

Looks like intraNATURALS is now Nested Naturals! Same crew, same supplements, new look. This offer seems to be expired but I was able to get a deal after using the contact form on the website.
