What a great deal! Our cloth diapers have saved us so much money and are way easier than I thought they would be, thanks for posting a cloth deal!

So on that note, i have a 3 month old (actually 3 months today 🙂 ) – how worth it would it be to cloth diaper? Considering we’re spending about $35 a month on diapers and i really haven’t had a kid fully potty trained before 3 years old (this one is our 4th and last). I have always been curious about cloth diapers and we are throwing SO much into the landfill that i have begun to think about it.

We’re on our 3rd and have cloth diapered each one, joyfully. So much better for your baby, wallet and environment. It seems daunting at first but once you get the hang of it (deciding your wash schedule, which soap you prefer, ect) it becomes second nature. People always ask, “isn’t it alot of work?” Uhm…I have 3 kids, I can handle anything! Lol. It’s hardly different than reg laundry, just a longer cycle. Cotton babies website was very helpful to me when I first started out, they have great tips and awesome customer service when you have a question, even regarding washing diapers, seriously! This is a great buy on the diapers, especially since it includes the inserts. I cloth diapered my first 2 children for less than $300 and resold my entire stash for $150. I waited until the last minute with the new baby to purchase diapers so I didn’t get as good of a deal and also went with a more expensive diaper and spent around $400. This gets us through potty training as well and then i can resell. Hope that helps some! (Plus you’ll never have to scramble/make a trip to the store for a diaper deal again, woo!!)
        Good luck to you!

It’s so worth it!!! My advice is to buy a couple AIO (all in one) diapers first because they’re the easiest. I use pocket diapers though and they’re pretty easy… Just got to stuff them. It’s cheap, good for the environment, and good for baby!

If you’re going to have a large family, could be worthwhile to invest in one of these washable diaper systems. If not, and it’s about cost/time/laundry, disposables are do-able but require more bargain shopping (which requires some time/planning/patience) in my experience. FWIW, I pay an average of about 10 cents per disposable (a little less for smaller sizes, a little more for larger sizes), buying Pampers, Luvs, Huggies, or Walmart/Sams Club brands. Best deals are CVS when it’s Spend $30 & get $10 back, plus use a ubiquitous CVS “magic coupon machine” $5 off $25 in diapers, plus MFR coupons, plus Ibotta (or similar). Disposables have gotten pretty high tech and actually hold a lot of pee so with less frequent changes (when a diaper is either poopy or full of pee, whichever happens first), I am spending about 50 cents a day for a baby eating food, and maybe it was $1 a day for a milk-only baby. I wrap them up in newspaper or produce bags (free), rather than a diaper genie.

A few cons I have heard about washables:

They are not vaseline/desitin friendly (in fact, that voids the warranty and makes them non-absorbent), so if your kid is prone to needing those topical treatments, s/he may end up in disposables anyway.

Disposables may be needed for travel, daycare, overnight, so factor that in.

I knew a baby who wore cloth diapers that were VERY bulky (maybe the new ones are better?) and it seemed challenging for him to move and walk. Really bulky ones can throw off baby clothes sizes, so buy larger baby clothes for the bottom half. Some tights and leggings may not fit at all.

I’ve heard disposables and washables are about a tie for which is worse for the environment.

I think it’s totally worth it! I’m a huge fan of all in one diapers. I did not like spending the time stuffing diapers. I use bumgenius freetimes, got some used for about $8 each and some new for $10-$15 (sales and coupons) and I should be able to resell them even after using them for around $10 each, $5 if they aren’t in good condition. We use coconut oil for diaper rashes. It’s not as hard as people think! If you’re thinking about it, grab a few online (there are tons of b/s/t sites and you can get some used if you want) try them out, and if they aren’t for you, return them! I would also recommend trying different brands. We tried the cheap Alvas at first but I didn’t like them at all. Bumgenius is what worked for us. Tons of people love these Charlie banana ones too. Actually, you might even be able to get this price or close to it if you would use and then decide to sell.

I plan to cloth my little one in September when she arrives. I have done a lot of research on it and continue to learn more about them. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and joined the fluff love and cloth science groups on Facebook to learn about the different types, wash routines, and what not. You can cloth for very cheap with flower sack towels at Walmart or target(5 for 5 bucks-ish), a snappi and covers to purchasing all in one diapers that is basically the same as a disposable. I personally have bought various ones to try including Alva’s which are about 5 bucks a piece on their alvababy website. They are considered China cheapies but there a lot of good reviews. I got a lot of pocket diapers from them that you just stuff with absorbent inserts. Plus the colors and prints are so adorable. I wish I could post pics on here cause there are some awesome cost comparison pics I have. One of them says “after 30 months or 7354 diaper changes….cloth- total cost $775( including cost of diapers, utilities raising slightly, etc.) After resale-$550 (cloth has a pretty great resale value). Disposables- $2349,resale value-none. You can also look for used for sale on local diaper swaps.

These diapers are awesome! I have tried other brands but Charlie banana is my favorite. I was a littleleary of doing cloth, but now wish I had used them with my first two. I’m already doing laundry for 5 of us so what’s an extra 2-3 loads a week.
As far as fitcharlie banana seem to be more form fitting than other brands I’ve tried.

I got my start in cloth diapering with a set of Charlie Bananas on clearance at Target. They were a simple introduction to using cloth and I used them along with other brands almost until potty training my daughter. Definitely worth trying out at this price!
