We moved into a home in November that had one of these and they are great! I forgot to turn the air up when I left one day yet when I got home it automatically had set itself to away. Via sensors it knew no one was home. Very cool feature. Plus it’s nice to be able to control the temperature via my phone.

I agree with the above post. We put one into our new home andI love that I can control the temperature from my bed at night and not have to go downstairs to do so. Been using Nest for over a year now and so far great!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback Kate!

Does anyone know how this compares to a Black Friday price?

    • Ashley

I bought my nest during Black Friday and paid $250 but got a $50 Best Buy gift card back. I’d say this is a good deal.

We purchased out 3rd gen one year ago, and it’s the best decision we made for our home renovation! We’ve saved -so- much money on our electric bill! We live in Louisiana in a home built in the 50’s (no insulation), and our electric bill is our lowest monthly bill, even with running the AC (on 68 degrees, whoops!) 24/7. It kicks it up to 78 degrees when we aren’t home, and has the house cooled to 68 by the time we walk through the door. Love love LOVE this thing!

we were in a similar situation with our old home in Arizona. house over 50 yrs old, no roof insulation, so hot in the summer that our air needed to be running all day, even set at 78 degrees.
we always used the equal-payment-plan for monthly electric bills, so it is averaged out over the year. we installed a Nest, and after 3 months, we got a letter from the electric company that our bill was going down by $60 per month.
plus, when we go out of town, we can use our phone to tell our thermostat when we are getting close to home and have it start cooling the house down before we arrive, so it’s not 100 degrees and stuffy in there after being away for a week.

Sweet! Glad to hear how convenient and budget friendly for your power bill it has been! Thanks for the review!

If bought at this price from this eBay store, would it still qualify for some of the energy rebates out there? ComEd, I think?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    I HATE this thermostat.

Our previous one was from ADT and had the same wifi features- make changes when you’re not home, preset temps at different times, etc. It was a great thermostat but you know, the nest is all the rage right now so we jumped on the bandwagon.

I’ll spare the details and just say we’re on our third nest in less than a year. It just stops working. The one we have right now isn’t working either. when I turn the nest to 75, it turns on the AC for 2 minutes and stops. Even though the thermostat says its 85. Even if we set the temp to 50, it won’t turn on the AC. Its 110 degrees outside.. I gave up on it and bought a standing fan.

It’s a lot of money so I just want ppl to beware. No one is at my house until like 6pm so it’s not like we were “overusing” the thermostat, it’s just a piece of crap.

I also wanted to mention, our nest wasn’t FIXED 3 times, the company literally sent us brand new ones. We had an AC Repair company come to the house, but there’s nothing wrong with the AC. The issue is the stupid nest.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh bummer! So sorry to hear that! Thanks for the honest feedback!

Maybe a wiring issue into the base plate for the nest?

We’ve had our Nest for almost a year and we love it! If you have issues with it auto adjusting you should modify your programmed schedule! This is also a super user friendly thermostat!
