Thanks for sharing, what a grest deal! We actually have this printer…. just wanted to share that although the printer is indeed awesome, ink is a fortune! It burns through relatively quickly (even on draft settings) and price per cartridge is high. With that being said I still love the printer itself and its a nice enough budget printer that we haven’t been overly concerned about replacing it. But if you’re looking for super economical ink spending I’d look at another option.

@jtm. You’re message got cut off. I believe you were about to recommend a printer with economical ink. I’m in search of such a printer. Please share. Thx!

Check out the brother MFC-J480DW wireless. Printer at office depot seems to be the best price. Around $60. Ink refills are about $40 for factory but you are able to get refilled cartridges for much less.

I have this printer and refill the cartridge myself with an ink syringe. There is a circle under the sticker (on top of the cartridge) which must be punctured and that is the refill spot. It negates the warranty but two new cartridges cost more than the printer.

      • Candice

Wow Tracy, where do you buy the ink syringe that works with this model?

    • jtm

No, I still have this printer and have yet to get a more economical one. But I too am very interested in learning how to refill ink myself!

You can get generic ink for these very cheap on Amazon by inkjetcorner ($20 for 20 inks including black and all colors) I’m still using the Arthur imaging ink I got $18 on a flash sale for 30 inks. This is 9 months later and you can’t tell the difference unless you’re using for pro photos with a mag glass. Ink for these is not expensive or worth sending these machines to the boneyard due to the price of name brand ink. Costco can’t refill these as cheap as amazon sells them for generic, not even close.

        • Candice

Thanks. It seems ridiculous to throw the machine out when you can refill the cartridges!

    Hey jtm:
Thank you for your very honest review. It’s just ONE of the many things I really like and appreciate about this blog ๐Ÿ˜Š

We also have this printer and love plus it’s it’s an all in one. This printer goes on sale now and then so we watch for a good price and then stock up. We don’t buy new ink because it’s higher than the printer itself so we just donate the used printer and install a new printer when it runs out of ink. Adorama does a good job as well. Fast shipping and good return policy if you happen to need that. We just ordered another of these because we were down to our last one….we don’t use it for printing 100’s of coupons a month (like some of you might) but all in all it works good as a regular use printer/scanner/copier!

    • Brittani

Same thing Barb! I’ll buy this JUST for the ink!

    • jtm

      What a great idea!

Thanks Collin just purchased! It’s normal $17.99 just for each ink alone! Purchased just for the ink!

I hate that new printers are cheaper than ink itself! I need ink, but I’m tempted to buy this printer just for the ink instead.

  6. Breanna

I purchased this printer last year and mine just stopped printing and started jamming but I still use the scanner. I just purchased another though ๐Ÿ˜ Can’t beat the price! I’m thinking I should’ve bought 2 now. Thank you!

  7. Kat

I purchased this printer on October and it worked just 32 days! ๐Ÿ˜ก
