Got one for my daughters Valentines bag. Thank you!
You’re welcome Katie!
Moms of 1st and 2nd grade girls…do you and your daughter like these books? My daughter is in 1st grade but reads on the high end for her grade and I want to get some books that she can’t just fly through so quickly. She has to read every night for 20 minutes and write a sentence or 2 about what she read and we have been going through books that are way too easy for her. Would these be good for that, or can you suggest some good books she can try?
We love junie b!!! In the spirit of full disclosure, she is a bit sassy, but we use those as teaching moments. My girls and boys have loved reading these books. Also, you may want to start stocking up on the magic treehouse books for your next series to explore. (I believe they’re second grade level.) Don’t forget to check out your local goodwill store. We get so many of our books there for 10-20 cents each.
My daughter read this series in Kindergarten/1st grade. And now she’s in second grade she can read a whole junie b jones book in 20-30 min. I got her some Judy Moody books for Christmas and she loves them! But they are more difficult to read (which is good!) hth.
My daughter is also in first and reading 2nd grade level…loves these books.
Thanks so much ladies for your opinions! I will deff check out these books!
My daughter was in kindergarten reading at a 4th grade level. She is now in second grade. She reads these books but they are not a challenge. My other daughter that is currently in kindergarten can read these books maybe not as easily as her sister did at kindergarten but she will sit and read them.
The Best Loved Doll
The One and Only Ivan
Geronimo Stilton
The Magic Treehouse
Sorry all the titles ran together when it posted but I think the titles are easy to figure out
I second the Judy moody and stink series. They are a little older than Junie B Jones.
Thanks! Great gift for my daughter!!
Perfect! You’re so welcome!
If I remember correctly, these have terrible grammar. She is described as “sassy”. She has bad behavior and doesn’t say the nicest things. We loved the Magic Tree House Series, the ABC Mysteries series the Calendar Mysteries series( this is a little easier than the (ABC Mysteries).
There are the Geronimo Stilton books those are fun, same with the Arthur, there are also the rainbow fairies, There are all kinds of fun series.
The poor grammar is one of the reasons Junie B. is on the banned/challenged books list. If you have a few minutes to spare, check out the list of banned books from the last 10 years. So surprising and might spark some conversation with older kids. My kids love Junie B., Captain Underpants, and other titles on the “naughty list.”
Yes!! The grammar is so terrible. My daughter in first grade loves these, but it’s like nails on a chalkboard.
She doesn’t necessarily have “bad” behavior. Junie B. is a child and like most children, she is mischievous once in a while. I read this series as a child and I turned out fine. I even know how to read, write and speak properly. Seriously, just let kids enjoy a fun series, even though it may not always be grammatically correct. If it gets kids interested in reading, then that’s what matters.
My daughter loves Junie B.! She began reading them at the beginning of this school year and has read about 20 of her books already (some of them more than once)! The grammar drove me nuts for a while, but now I love them and her books make me laugh and cry as well. Junie B. First Grader books are a little better grammar-wise, so hang in there. ๐
Thanks so much for the feedback! Happy to hear your daughter has enjoyed these books! ๐
