How does the credit work?
the credit is for use on a subset of selected items later after your box ships.
i did one recently, and when i looked at the selection for my credit, it looked like a LOT of choices. however, i went to order, and i realized MOST of the items were fulfilled through Prime Pantry only, so that meant it would be $5.99 shipping to use a $4.99 credit on one or two items.
besides the Prime Pantry stuff, a lot of the items were available in large quantities with high prices, or just not a good deal. i ended up using it on something that was available to add to my Subscribe & Save order for a normal price.
also, when i tried to use credit towards beverages, i tried about 6 different ones and they all said Amazon could not ship those to my state. (even though i tried adding flavored waters and a few different types of lemonade and sodas.)
SO, the credit might be okay, but just look through the choices first and make sure there is something there you want to try or that you planned to buy anyway, and that a Prime Pantry shipping cost won’t kill it for you.

Canceling & reordering would definitely work fine in terms of getting the promo credit.
In terms of retroactive price adjustments, Amazon used to be great, but Paribus ruined it for everyone by taking it too far…
