The soothing motion seat is $112 in the 3 stores within 50miles of me and all out of stock. This is going to be my last baby and I don’t want to spend too much on baby items, hope I can get a swing or something similar and Eddie Bauer car seat to fit my old adventure stroller. The current car seat is fine but the expiration date is this year. Do carseats really expire?

We borrowed a car seat from one our friends which will be over 6 years when our baby will arrive so we decided to discard it after talking to the graco car seat customer care, they strongly suggested not to use it. We put it in front of the the trash can outside for the garbage truck to pick it up when someone just took it away for their own use. It is upto he/ she but we decided not to risk using it. Good luck

They do expire when subjected to expected use. Your car temperature varies wildly even in a single day – we’re from New England, and it’s not unusual for a car to be frozen in the morning and sweltering in the afternoon – and every time the temperature changes, the plastic expands and contracts, which makes it more brittle and less likely to do its job. Honestly for an infant seat that gets used for a year and stored for 2, if it was stored indoors, I would be fine stretching the last year, but that’s me, and for a convertible that gets used its whole use life, I would keep to the expiration date.
