What is StubHub, you ask? Here’s what you need to know!

StubHub is an online marketplace, or ticket exchange, where fans can go to buy from or sell tickets to other consumers. On this website, you can find hot tickets to sporting events, concerts, comedy shows, and theater productions!

Why would someone use Stubhub? Here are a few main reasons:

  • To buy better seats than are available at the box office or Ticketmaster
  • To buy tickets to a sold-out event
  • To find discounted tickets
  • To turn tickets for a profit
  • To sell tickets for an event you can no longer attend.

If you were dying to see that Taylor Swift concert or New England Patriots game, you might use Stubhub to buy a ticket from a fan like you. Just remember that this marketplace is subject to the laws of supply and demand. If the show you want to see is sold out, you can expect to have to fork over some dough for a seat, but if the show isn’t sold out and there is a surplus of tickets left, you might be able to score a discounted price!

You might also use Stubhub to sell tickets. Many people buy tickets to a show in advance and are no longer able to attend once the date approaches. Others buy tickets with the intent to sell them later for a profit. Whatever your reason for selling, instead of standing outside the stadium trying to scalp your tickets, use Stubhub to resell them legally from the comfort of your own home.

How does Stubhub work?

Using StubHub is pretty straightforward. Head on over to their website and create a free account. From the homepage, you can search by type of event or by city. You can also use the search bar at the top of the screen to search by keyword.

Here’s how to buy tickets:

Once you click on the event you’re interested in attending, you’ll be able to see the available tickets. StubHub provides a helpful map of each venue and will show you the tickets for sale and the asking prices. You can filter your results to show you tickets by price, section, or delivery method. Some tickets are even instant-download which means you’ll receive them right away! These are the tickets I recommend you try to buy.

Once you select a set of tickets, the website will instruct you on how you’ll receive your tickets (mail, email, or instant download) and ask you for payment. Simply follow the prompts, pay, and the tickets are yours! 🤘

Here’s what to know about selling tickets on StubHub:

Have some tickets you can no longer use? StubHub can help you unload them!

On the upper right hand of the StubHub homepage is a link to “Sell” tickets. Click that link and find the corresponding event. Then simply follow the prompts to list your ticket. You’ll be asked about seat location, delivery method, and price. Acknowledge that you’ve read StubHub’s terms and conditions and then hit the “Create Listing” button. That’s it! It’s super easy.

You can sell mobile tickets anytime up to the event and paper tickets must be listed at least 3 days before an event.

How much does Stubhub charge to sell tickets?

It’s completely free to list your ticket on StubHub, but when your ticket sells, StubHub does take a small sellers fee. As of 2023, this fee is about 15%, but is subject to change.

As for buyers, they should expect to pay a handling fee.

Is StubHub legit?

You may be wondering, “Is StubHub legit?” Yes, StubHub is legit! Many people, including several Hip2Save team members, have bought and sold tickets using the website!

But is StubHub reliable?

Yes. StubHub is reliable. The company offers a FanProtect Guarantee. Every order is 100% guaranteed or your money back!

The FanProtect Guarantee promises the following:

  • You will receive valid tickets for entry to an event
  • You will get your tickets in time for the event
  • Should you experience an issue, StubHub will either give you your money back or get you comparable or better tickets.
  • If your event is cancelled, you’ll receive a 120% credit to StubHub or be given the option for a full refund.
  • If you are selling tickets, you will receive payment in a timely matter.

If you’re concerned about not getting your tickets, I suggest sticking to the instant delivery tickets as most people seem to have a better result with this type of delivery.

Is StubHub safe?

Yes! StubHub is considered a safe and secure website. If you’re selling tickets, StubHub will handle all the communications with the buyer. The site accepts payment methods like credit cards, debit cards, direct deposit, Payoneer prepaid cards, StubHub gift cards, and PayPal.

Even though StubHub is considered safe, when shopping online you always need to be aware of scams. If you are concerned that the ticket you bought is a fake, make a call to the event box office to confirm or contact StubHub’s customer service at 1.866.788.2482 between 5 am to 9 pm PT.

Who are Stubhub’s competitors?

Here are a few of StubHub’s competitors and what makes them special:

  • Vivid Seats – This company vets all sellers to ensure safety and the seller never obtains any of the buyer’s information.
  • SeatGeek – Works like StubHub but each listing is given a rating to show how good of a deal you’re being offered.
  • Ticketmaster – If you’re looking for a smooth and reliable transaction, this household name is tried and true.

I used Vivid Seats to get tickets to a Morgan Wade concert earlier this year (she was amazing 😍). I had no problem getting my tickets or entering the venue. I had never used the service before so I spoke to customer service to double-check that my tickets were on their way. They responded quickly and were super helpful! Also, like many other people, I’ve used Ticketmaster without any issues.

I’ve personally used Stubhub and had a fine experience.

As for Stubhub, I’ve used them in the past to get tickets to a sold-out music festival. My experience went smoothly!

However, I got paper tickets and I will say that it was a little nerve-wracking having to check the mail and trust they would come on time. I did end up receiving my tickets about a week before the show, but in the future, I’ll go with the instant download for peace of mind.

My coworkers have positive Stubhub reviews too, except they disliked the fees…

“I just used it recently to get Tash Sultana tickets and it was super easy to use – I like the desktop interface. Although in the past I was looking at getting tickets for Chris Stapleton and the extra fees were INSANE. I don’t know if that varies by performer or if Stubhub sets those prices though, but I thought it was weird.” – Monica, Hip2Save team

“I go to a lot of concerts. I’ve used Stubhub on several occasions to purchase concert tickets and bought tickets to see the Bucs in Tampa last year. I’ve never had any issues getting my tickets, although I will say, sometimes it’s not the best deal with the added fees! SO be sure to check those fees out before checking out!!” – Liz, Hip2Save team

Is StubHub legit? If so, why are there bad StubHub reviews and why is their Trust Pilot rating so low?

Great question! StubHub is legit, but despite many people having a good experience, the company still has a dismal Trust Pilot rating of just 1.6 stars! 😱

Most of the negative StubHub reviews are about people not receiving their paper or mobile tickets and therefore missing their event. For this reason, I recommend that you stick to buying instant delivery tickets when using StubHub. This way you’ll be able to view the tickets right away and have time to resolve the issue if anything looks off!

Some users who sold tickets left negative StubHub reviews due to slow payment processing, technical glitches, lack of customer support, high fees, and the inability to properly delist their tickets.

That being said, for every negative review, you can also find a positive review. Those of us who have used the service haven’t run into any trouble yet.

For the best experience, we recommend buying instant delivery tickets, reading each listing carefully, using the site with caution, and calling customer service at the first sign of any hiccups.

Need more feedback? Here are some helpful – but mixed – StubHub reviews…

“I want to thank StubHub. Bought 2 tickets to watch the FA Cup game Man City vs Arsenal. Got the best seats near the pitch lower tier at a good price. Can’t complain. It was a good experience. I don’t know why people give 1 star reviews. I purchased tickets very quickly without any hassle. Definitely recommend.” – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“The customer service representatives were very kind. But I was less than impressed with StubHub’s ticket transfer policies and its satisfaction guarantee. I was unable to retrieve the tickets I initially purchased due to a stupid tech error, and after days of back and forth phone calls received a refund, but only after ticket prices had gone through the roof. Would have appreciated if they’d just immediately given me the refund so I could have re-purchased tickets at a reasonable price. Likely won’t use them in the future.” – ⭐️⭐️

“My dad bought 4 club house seats for $1500 to the Coca Cola 600 for my brothers birthday. Once we got to the gate they scanned them and told us the tickets were invalid and had been resold multiple times.  It’s a scam.” – ⭐️

“What made my experience great was Joe Bonamassa and the great band and the State Theater in Cleveland. I was just a little worried my tickets could have taken until concert day to actually show up and I traveled 2000 miles for the event, but they were delivered to my phone 3 days before the event and it was amazing.” -⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The problem with buying concert tickets today is resellers. Buying a huge block of tickets and trying to offload them at a profit. That being said, if ticketmaster/livenation is a starting point for ticket sales, they also jack up the prices with demand. So sad for legitimate fan. And NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy tickets directly from someone you don’t know. My daughter is out 300 dollars trying to buy a harry styles ticket from twitter. She told me the seller was a true harry fan and they would not do that. Lesson learned.

Tip: Purchase tickets with instant delivery! I purchased two sets of Detroit Tigers tickets, one with instant delivery, one without and the ones without were canceled about 2 hours before the game started. Always go with instant delivery!!!

Thanks for the tip! Good to know what has worked best for you! ā¤ļø

During COVID they changed their policy on cancellations and decided I was going to get a credit for my cancelled concert tickets instead of a refund (over $500 worth). My contact with customer service was ignored. I ended up having to file a dispute with my credit card company. I had no other issues purchasing tickets through them before, but that was a terrible experience!

  4. Ali S.

Stubhub is reputable for sure. The best bet is to buy the tickets from the venue itself using their ticket software company. AXS, Ticketmaster, etc. are assigned to some venues as their on-site provider.
**Please don’t ever post a picture of your tickets with the barcode showing. Scalpers only need the barcode to reproduce your ticket and keep you out of the event. I’ve worked in event ticketing for 20 years and it’s a common mistake.

Thanks Ali S! Good to know what you suggest with your experience in event ticketing! šŸ™ŒšŸ„°

I strongly disagree that Stub Hub is a legit business. I am an honest person and a mother who ended up with one extra Taylor Swift ticket. Long story – but after listing the ticket and repeated attempts to reach Stub Hub, I cancelled the listing. They charged me EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS!! You have to give them you PayPal or bank account info in advance because they donā€™t work with your credit card company – they know your cc might defend you! I have reached out to them multiple times. They tell me someone higher up will get back with me – but no one does. StubHub might be a good place for professional scalpers – but regular people should stay away.

  6. Leslie

What was the charge for supposedly? You never did sell your ticket?

    • tvfolk

I received a notice that the ticket was sold. But the night before the concert, the buyer still had not accepted the ticket transfer and the transaction was marked on the Stub Hub website as ā€œcanceled.ā€ I tried desperately to reach someone at StubHub because I did not want to be stuck with that extra ticket. I also didnā€™t want to transfer it to a buyer who had canceled the transaction. No one answered the phone or responded to the four emails I sent. I finally sent StubHub another email telling them if I didnā€™t hear back in the next hour I would cancel the ticket transfer. I heard nothing and canceled the transfer. I relisted the same ticket on the StubHub website, and it sold almost immediately. But StubHub charged me $800 penalty for cancelling the transaction I had been asking them for days to help with and gave me no money from the sale that went through. So someone bought and paid for the ticket and gave money to StubHub – but I LOST money. StubHub got my ticket and instead of paying me what the buyer paid – I was CHARGED $800 bucks. So I lost the $300 I originally played for the ticket plus the $800 Stubhub took from my account. Never have heard back from customer service. This was a total scam.

I would file a complaint with The Better Business Bureau and see if they can help. Thatā€™s so terrible!! šŸ™

      • Diana Creekmore

This type of thing happens WAY too often. StubHub isnā€™t accredited by the BBB for a reason. They are deplorable.

StubHub is a joke I bought 2 concert tickets with fast pass when I got there after driving 2 hours and waiting for 2 hours to get in they told me it was only fast lane passes I spent $130 and waited 4 hours when I called them they said they can’t do anything for me so I waisted my whole day and lost $170 I will never buy from them again

    Stubhub is a scam !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Troy

Total rip off website. I purchased my tickets and recieved an email that a link to retrieve my tickets would be emailed to me. It never arrived. I tried contacting customer support 24 hrs before the event and never got a reply to anything. Not email, not im. Nothing. No response to a refund request. Nothing. Just a total rip off. Avoid avoid avoid. Unless you like throwing money away.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! I’m so very sorry to hear about that experience, Troy. How frustrating. They do have a customer service number too if that might also be helpful. ā¤ļø 1.866.788.2482
