I have a $3 Register Reward left from the Edge Shaving Gel I purchased last week. I thought it would be useful to show the scenarios I’ve come up with to make the most of my leftover $3RR. Being able to roll Register Rewards back and forth really helps lower your out of pocket expense. The main thing to remember when you roll RRs is that you may need a “filler” item. Register Rewards are considered manufacturer coupons. For example, if you’re purchasing Colgate toothpaste by itself and also want to use a manufacturer coupon and a Register Reward, then you’ll need a “filler” or else the RR will beep. This is due to the coupon to item ratio. The register only allows one manufacturer coupon per item purchased, so throw in an inexpensive filler item that doesn’t require a manufacturer coupon and you’ll be good to go! Also do NOT forget that you can’t roll the same Register Rewards back and forth.

My Plan to “Roll” Register Rewards:

Transaction #1:
Purchase the Colgate Max White or Max Fresh Toothbrush $3.29
Purchase 2 Walgreens Brand Aluminum Foil (20 sq. ft.) .59 with in ad coupon
(filler item)
Total= $4.47 + tax
Use the $1 Colgate coupon from here
Plus use the $3RR from the Edge deal
Pay .47 + tax
Get back a $3.29RR (from the Colgate)

Transaction #2:
Purchase Scunci Elastics (18 pk) $2
Purchase Chapstick 100 % Naturals or True Shimmer Lip Balm or Butter, .15 oz $1.99
Total= $3.99 + tax
Use the $3.29RR from the Colgate deal above
Pay .70 + tax
Get back a $2RR for the Scunci and a $2RR for the Chapstick

Transaction #3
Fiber Choice 10 ct Tablets $2.49
Edge Shaving Gel $2.99
Total=$5.48 + tax
Use both $2RRs from above
Final cost $1.48 + tax
Get back a $3RR from the Edge and a $2.49RR from the Fiber Choice

Transaction #4
Purchase 6 Vaseline Intensive Care Lotions on sale for $2.69
Purchase 2 Big Roll Bathroom Tissues $1 for 2 with in ad coupon
(filler items)
Total= $17.14
Use 6 $1.25 coupons from the 3/1RP
Plus use both $3 & $2.50 RRs from above
Final cost $4.14 + Tax
Get back a $6RR from the Vaseline purchased

All in all I will have snagged 6 Vaseline Lotions, 2 rolls of Toilet paper, Fiber Choice tablets, Edge Shaving Gel, Scunci Elastics, Chapstick, Colgate toothbrush and 2 aluminum foils for ONLY $6.79. Plus, I’ll still have $6 in Register Rewards left to use!

Guess what I found? At least for MN peeps. The coupon from 3/1 is actually $1.50. And, if you’re like me and didn’t start getting numerous newspapers until recently, there are $1 coupons in the 04-05 UN : Vaseline Lotion 200 ml or larger except Renewal or Glow $1.00/1 🙂

Sometimes, it is hard to come up with 6 coupons, at least for me 🙂

  2. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great ideas on how to roll those RR. I have never been able to figure out if the easy saver coupons or the in ad coupons count as a coupon. For example, on the lotion transaction, do the in ad tp coupons count as coupons?

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The manager at my local Walgreens said you can only use one RR coupon per transaction. GRRRRR.

Also, last night I purchased the chapstick with the shaving cream, and I only got a RR for the chapstick. I asked the cashier about it and she told me that it will only print one RR coupon per transaction. She was really annoyed by me, so I didn’t put up a fight. What should I do?

    Sigh.

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Jen,
No, both the EasySaver and in ad coupons do NOT count toward the coupon to item ratio since they’re both store coupons.

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Katie,

I’m guessing you may have picked the wrong variety of shaving gel. I’ve heard that only 4 varieties work for the RR deal.

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hip2save: If I use the Colgate teeth paste RR from last week to pay for the Colgate Max White or Max Fresh Toothbrush. Will I still able get the RR? Thank you.

  7. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Ling,
I’m 99% sure that if you use your RR to pay for another Colgate deal (even though they’re different items), you will NOT get another RR… since they are both Colgate products.

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Thank you so much!

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are a goddess!!! I am completely amazed at your ability to work this out. I try, but I can’t live up to your powers!!!

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Anonymous,
Yes, you can. Just make sure you have “filler” items if you end up having more manufacturer coupons then items.

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The toothbrushes are priced at 3.29, so your first scenario doesn’t work. They’re still giving out 3.50 RR though, so the rest of the scenarios would work.

  12. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

My Walgreen’s told me that I cannot use a RR and then get one back. I have not tried because they were really mean about it. Was that wrong? They said it was “getting out of control” rolling them like this.

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i’ve purchased two of the skintimate shave gels at two different wags in the last few days. neither printed RRs. do you know which varieties ARE working for the RRs?

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Adriana,
Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I’ve changed the errors, so hopefully the scenarios will work fine now!:)

  15. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

amy and the bad cats – The Skintimates that work are the New Moisturizing Cream Shave Dry Ski and Extra Gentle. If you go http://www.skintimate.com it’s the 2 pictured on the main page. HTH!

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Amy,
The ones I know of that work so far are:The moisturizing cream shave- these ones are in a standing curvy white plastic tube with the lid on the bottom. There are 2 varieties and they both work. One has a pink lid and one has a green lid.

    Hope that helps!:)

I haven’t been able to use more than one RR in a transaction at any of my 3 stores in a long time. They say right on them not to and the cashiers are so mean about it. I just split up my transactions to burn and roll them which is annoying for me and the cashier. But I am just playing by their rules, you would think if they were annoyed enough, they would change the policy. The good deals keep me coming back though.

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    =Bonnie,
You can use more then one Register Reward in a single transaction and it does not state you can’t on the Register Reward either.

The Register reward states, “Coupon Value cannot exceed purchase amount. Total number of Manufacturer coupons/Register Rewards cannot exceed the number of items in the transaction”

This means that you can use as many RR’s as you like as long as the number of RR’s doesn’t exceed the number of items or the value.

I’ve had cashiers tell me I can only use one and I always show them the wording on the RR and usually that resolves the issue.

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The Skintimate and the Edge that qualify for the RR are near the cosmetic counter in a separate display next to each other. There is a RR tag there also. I’m in New Jersey. Hope that helps. Saturday, I was able to use 4 $3.00 RRs in one transaction, because I purchased 3 spices and 6 coffee filters-I just had store coupons for those. I also got Free Crest RR, $3.50 RR (from Colgate), and $1.00 for Lysol. Don’t let them tell you you can’t get RRs when you use RRs.
I’ve said this before, but I have the best people at my Walgreens. Saturday, I had 2 $1.00 coupons for Coffee-mate that expired Saturday. I asked the manager if he could mark the Coffee-mate down to Sunday’s price 2/$3.00. For 2 it is a difference of $1.98 for both. I paid $2.49 each and he told me to hold onto my receipt and I will get the $1.98 difference when I go in again. It’s nice when I walk into Walgreens-it like being in a “Cheers” episode-they know my name and I know their names.

  20. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Just confirming your answer to Ling earlier–I used my RR from Colgate last week on a toothbrush for this week (didn’t even think about it), and a RR did NOT print. So, yeah–be careful!:)

  21. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Filler! Darn it. It was so obvious. Today was my first foray into Walgreens RR land. I’ve been in Walgreens before, but since they are always out of everything on sale, I stopped going years ago. I love the RR idea. I tried to roll my $4 but had already used a $2.50. I did not know about the “RRs cannot exceed items” rule. Now it’s on Walgreens! I’m gunning for you, and maybe some Fiber Choice tabs! Thanks Hip2 you have given me quite an education.

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

are they still doing RR for the shave gel? For some reason I thought they stopped it? THANKS

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

If I use a RR on ANYTHING that is supposed to generate another RR, I will not get it.

This is something that has changed recently at our Walgreens.

I recently did two identical transactions, one using a qualifying RR to pay, and on the next transaction I did not use a RR. In the transaction where I used the qualifying RR, the catalina did NOT give me another RR.

So now I divide my transactions up into several, and make sure that I do not use any RR’s on items that generate more RR’s. *SIGH*!

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, select Edge and Skintimate shaving gels are producing RRs all month long.

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went today to do the colgate toothbrush and used the clogate 3.50 from last week. IT DID NOT print another!!

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

cnrbuck: that is because they are both colgate products!

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW!!! I had the best cashier last night at Walgreens. She did everything to help me save. The register printed up a $1.50 off dove deodorant coupon while she was ringing my order, so she used that coupon as well. I had manuf. coupons for everything in my order, so she made the price on one of my items less the amount of the coupon. I did NOT complain.

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    hip2save,
I have to tell you, when I went to wags(4) today I did so many transactions at each(3-5). The cashier was amazed at how I put things together and used differnt coupons and rr’s to pay so little out of pocket and about an upcomimg sale in 2 weeks. Also,I told her the easy saver program was probaly ending. She told me I couldnt use rrs and get rrs, though. I told her just to do the transaction anyways and when It printed out my rrs she was lost for words. She said how do you know all this, you dont even work here? I said I thank hip2save everyday!!!:) Thank you, thank you, thank you for saving our family $$$$$ everyday.Your at the top of my favorites.
