I’m wondering how deals like the ones pictured are possible without breaking the rules. For instance, the artisan bread coupon clearly says one per transaction. So that would mean there should be one loaf of bread sitting there, not several. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for getting great deals, but the more people who don’t follow the rules, the more cashiers are suspicious of the rest of us who do follow the rules.

  2. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Good for U!!

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

A few readers have emailed me who have in fact contacting Target corporate regarding the 1 coupon per transaction wording on the coupon. Corporate said that you can in fact use more than one coupon in a transaction- just as long as you purchase “a family sized” amount.

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Man I wish I could do that!

I’m almost out of printer ink and I can’t get more. lol At least not right now 🙁

I’ll be around Target tomorrow too! 🙁

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I usually have my daughter or husband with me, so if it’s 1 per order, I just skip it, and let the person who’s with me ring it up and pay for it.

That really isn’t breaking any rules.

Congrats Collin, I really wish I could get my food that cheap!

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Can you give the breakdown of your purchase? I’d like to copy it. Thanks!

  7. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great trip! I recently walked out of Target with 3 bags FULL of stuff for 7 cents. Doesn’t happen that way too often but it is fun when it does. BTW I think it is funny you charged 33 cents. I rarely have cash too on me either!

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’d be interested in knowing want coupons you used and where you found them.

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

When I contacted corporate about the one-per-transaction rule, they said they make no exceptions to it.
(And I’m not sure mini-loaves count as “family-sized.” I’m guessing they mean a full-sized item.)

I’m not trying to make trouble, but I’m a little disappointed that you are praising someone for this transaction.

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That’s so amazing! I need to learn to shop like you guys! We don’t have a Target store here. I wish we did, I love Target!

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Per purchase and per trasaction are diffrent if it says per purchase that means one coupon on the one item not several coupons with several of the same items….

If it says per transaction then you can use several of the same coupon on several of the same items

    Hope that makes sense

  12. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

target hates me and my coupons– refuse to shop there after years and years of spending hundreds of dollars at a time.

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    way to go!!!i’m jealous!

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

If you don’t agree with this blog, go find one you don’t have a problem with. If corprate tells some they can use more than 1 coupon and the stores don’t have a problem with it, why should you? (Collin didn’t mean a family sized item, she meant a family sized number of items per transaction, you are just looking for an arguement)

  15. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Hi guys,
I understand that some of you may not agree with the trasaction above. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

With that said, Target is a confusing store and their rules and policies seem to change from store to store and manager to manager. If a manager says it’s ok to use more then one like Target coupon per transaction, then honestly I don’t really understand what the problem is. If your store does not accept more then one per transaction, then that’s fine too.

My point is this will vary from store to store, so what may work for you may not work for another reader.

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great job! I just wish I our sales tax was that low!

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I called Target after I got email back from them about coupons. In the email they said to call them so I did and gave them my reference #. The guy in the phone said that no target employee should refuse to take a printable target coupon from their website. I had an experience where the coupon beeped. Also he said if they refuse to not let me use a manufacture coupon and target coupon, to call them from their store and they will explain it to Target in my area. So I told him to email me the store’s coupon policy. Im not sure though if I want to go thru all that just for them to let me use a coupon.

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m with Anon. Where I live, sales tax is 9.25%. Thanks for sharing your pics!!

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How did you get the Beneful food for free??

  20. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I never shop without my kids, so in one trip we can get 5 transactions. They are great at going in diffrent lines and if they have a problem they now all the rules and will talk to the cashiers to get it fixed. The two youngest stay with me and I help them with theres. So we break no rules this way. We each have our own order. I try to do the biggest order myself and then have the oldest take the next. He will even have them call over a manager if he know the cashier is wrong and talk with them.
Who says kids don’t know how to shop? It is amazing at 9 and 10 how they know just as well the rules as I do. Had one problem once with the 1 year old. The cashier gave me a hard time and said it really was not his transaction because it had femine items in it. I told her there is no age limit to use coupons. The manager backed me up and said if I wanted I could do all the transactions myself one at a time, but the way I did it did not hold the lines up as much because the kids where at diffrent registers.
I try very hard to follow the rules and expect to be treated fair. I have been know to educate managers and cashier on coupons and I can tell you that some of the worst cashiers, over time, have realized that we do nothing wrong and now they are the ones to cheer us on. My Target in one town allows up to three target coupons as long as they are well stocked, but the other Target sticks to one. I know there rules, I follow there rules, and I very rarely have problems.

  21. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How were you able to get sales tax to be only applied to the $.32? Every time I’ve used coupons, they tax the pre-coupon price so often times the tax is more than my subtotal. Is each target different?

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I thought they charged sales tax on the amount before coupons. That seems to be how they do it here in California.

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Did I read correctly that you have your 1 year old do a transaction for you? I like to save but wow that is sad!

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Sandra,
I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but Target has computers at the front of the store for you to print their store coupons for free…saves you ink.

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great job! I would love to know how the Beneful Dog Food deal worked as well… this is great dog food (not that I have tried it, lol!) , but never on sale and I hardly ever find coupons for it, and NEVER for the smaller bags.

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

In most states, sales tax charged depends on whether or not the coupon is considered a “promotional sale” type coupon (like you need to use a store discount card or store coupon, etc) or whether it is a manufacturer coupon. Depending on how the sale/discount/coupon is calculated caries whether the tax is on the “sale” price or on the pre-sale price. You can check your state’s website to see how itis calculated. Hope this helps!!

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Geez… if we are reading this blog then we are ALL using coupons… So, why not show a little support for each other because we’ve all had coupon-usage issues?? Don’t think we should make this personal and criticize other people!

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Hi all,
I just want to point out this was NOT my transactions, but a readers! You can check out how this reader was able to snag all these items free by looking at my Target weekly deals post.

The Purina Beneful Dog Food was priced at $4.69-$3 manufacturer coupon-$2 Target=FREE + overage!:) I have this deal listed in the Target weekly deals too.

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Those per purchase / per transaction definitions are wrong. One per purchase means you must have one coupon per item to match it. One per transaction means you can use one coupon total for one order (order generates a receipt where your total is either zero or you owe money). But with that said – I AM able to use more than one of those 1 per transaction coupons on my sole order at Target. Never had a problem at 3 different Targets with many different cashiers. I only use 3-4 max though of the same coupon. They usually do this to save time and not have to ring up 3-4 orders. If the stores are saying it is fine to take them, why is it not following the rules? I did call Corporate Target about this and they have told me the same thing as Hip2Save. They also said they say one per transaction to actually discourage resellers and try to not wipe out inventory. You could always ask the cashier first “do you want to use use all 4 coupons for this order or do you need to do separate transactions?” Or if you really just want to get your one item, then just do so. But if Corporate and the stores say it is OK to get a few at a time (on one transaction) then it is not breaking the rules.

  30. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

wow, you did great! My local Target (Crystal lake, Il.) sells out of alot of stuff quick, I did get alot of great deals but couldn’t get any dog food…all sold out:( I hope Target restocks soon. When I started couponing last FEB my Target was really picky about using more then 1 Target coupon per trans, but now they are really great and never give me a hard time! I hope all the complaints made them more coupon friendly!! Thanks again for the great website! I really enjoy all the great info you provide!

  31. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Fran, I did not know that you could print target coupons at the store. THANK YOU I’ll have to check this out. Is it the same place you print the baby/wedding registries?

  32. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Fran – I did not know that either! Thank you so much for the info!! And geez….for the ones complaining about this transaction…chill out!!

  33. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

my $3 purina coupon is for 15lb bag or larger…in addition the only target coupon I see is for Purina ONE dog food not Beneful…I am thinking that this person got a really clueless cashier and maybe took advantage of that.

  34. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome ladies. Yes Rita, I believe it’s the same spot…they have monitors and down below are the keyboards…they are near customer service. HTH.

  35. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Target coupon says for Purina ONE, not Beneful. I had gotten excited there for a minute…am I missing something else?

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I think this post unleashed a lot of green eyed monsters.

  37. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Everytime I go to my Target, I print my coupons there. It is the same computer where you print wedding/baby registry. Click on the bottom where you see target.com. Click on grocery coupons somewhere on the bottom. Pick which one you want and print it. You can print as many as you want. Save your ink and paper.

  38. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love it when people share deals…it is always neat to see what people do…and I think that each store kind of sets their own rules. I know my target has a limit of 5 of the “same” target coupon per transaction (even though the coupons say one) …
we all have to stick together and learn from each other…and the best way to learn is by doing.

ok…anyway … what I stopped by to say is that I “think” I found a $5 off beneful coupon, but I can’t print because I am out of ink…so let me know if this works for anyone:
    https://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qgtmaih2844554&bt=wi&o=56866&ci=1&c=BF&p=G3OUTbXv

believe me…this is a hard one to find. Every other month Petco releases a $5 off $25 so I pair them together to save $10 per bag!!

Thanks for all you do Hip!

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

About printing coupons on the registry – is it only for the current coupons listed or all of the ones that have been posted? Does that make sense?! lol
And…I am all for this Target Deal…quit complaining!!Its exciting and should be encouraged!! Not like she cleaned out the shelf of dog food…just took what she needed…its great! I LOVE it!

  40. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The $5 Beneful coupon is for a 31.1 lb bag.

  41. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

oh man I didnt know you can print coupons at Target! Im going to try that tomorrow! THANKS for the information! 🙂

  42. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What is the Beneful deal? I have everything else on the table but the dog food. Thank you!

  43. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

…I like how you used your debit card for that $.33 XD But really, that’s absolutely amazing you did that!

  44. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I don’t think criticism about such orders is a matter of jealousy, Rose. I get more than my fair share of free and cheap items at Target and elsewhere, and my Targets have never given me issues using more than Target coupon in one order. However, I still cringe when I see people brag about walking away with bags of merchandise for just a few cents. I go to great lengths to avoid a ridiculously small bill for giant bags of merchandise when using Target coupons. Why be greedy and draw the attention? There’s always another good deal coming down the pipeline. We’re reading this blog, so I can assure you large retail chains (and manufacturers, for that matter!) are monitoring them, too. They know how people use their coupons. It’s only a matter of time before Target begins placing more and more restrictions on their coupons, which hurts all of us who enjoy using them. Have you noticed how many Target coupons are now in the inserts rather than online, where their distribution is unlimited? And how many Target coupons now list minimum product sizes? There’s nothing wrong with using Target coupons to get great deals, but generally speaking, couponers need to show restraint and use them ethically (in addition to simply “following the rules”). Of course, ethics are subjective, but I see a big difference between this order and that of the reader who got four free Skittles, four free Buddies, four free Cheerios, four free trial-size toothpastes, etc.

Thanks for the great blog, Hip, and for a forum where we can discuss issues in a civil manner that concern us all.

  45. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I wish my visit to Target would have been so great. Once again no one at target seems to know their policy regarding coupons, even their own. I am tired of being humiliatde just because I choose to use coupons and yes even get some things for free. They act like I am stealing from them when actually I am just using my coupons to get the most product for the least amount of money. It frustrates me though to take the time to shop and sort coupons to get to the register and have them say I can’t use them because I would be geting the product for FREE. Yes, that is exactly my plan. Time for a corporate contact again. You’re an inspiration to keep shopping at Target

  46. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Speaking of Target…..I just left Gastonia’s! And on the doors it says they compare prices!! So Am really excited!!!

  47. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just visited Target tonight excited to pick up some renu for my husband. My husband used to be very against going into a store with me with coupons, but we have had such a good time at Target that he does not mind going there. Until tonight… the coupon for market place cheese beeped and the cashier strted getting snotty. so she ajusted the price and then when the Renu coupon came up it also beeped. (I had picked up the trial size). After a big discussion with the manager they finally lowered it to the actual price so I did not get any overage.(which I am fine with)..but my husband now dislikes coupons again..
Im hoping I do not run into things like this too often cause Im going to have to build my courage up a little more.

  48. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I LOVE how they paid debit for the $.33c! 🙂 That is a regular habit for me…

  49. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

haha wow everyone is getting passionate about the target coupons. i see no problem with using 4 of the target coupons (famiy size), even target says that is acceptable (however the store manager can overrule that so your mileage may vary). and also the coupons clearly state one per trasaction, not one per customer. so you would be following the rules by doing separate transactions and still walking away with four. and the annon who posted about shopping with her kids…i love it! kuddos to you for teaching your children the value of a dollar and dont let anyone give you greif about it. and i did laugh when you said the cashier said that it wasnt his cause it had femine products. so does that mean my husband can’t buy them for me because he is a male lol too funny. I shopped at target today and paid 4.98, got back a 5.00 gc and saved over 190!! and i am proud of it. i dont think it is being greedy or anything like that. i am being smart and got lots of groceries for my family and other items that we all use, including baby items. so for all those target couponers out there..keep on keepin on! lol

  50. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

About bread coupons and manu I believe but what abot a coupon for those cheese sticks???
There is not such coupon if so where is it??
