Well, today’s “Follow Me Monday” video is once again me sitting on the couch, answering questions, being lazy… BUT this time I have a special guest! 😉

As you may remember, I had you all email in questions that you were hoping I could answer. I received a total of 25 pages worth of questions, so just like the previous “Follow Me Monday” video I’m at it again trying to answer as many questions as I can– which is not very many due to my rambling.

Enjoy!

I am holding back tears as I am typing this… I can’t tell you just how wonderful it is to see you and your Grandma having such a great time together. Please treasure every moment. My dear Grandma passed away several years ago. I didn’t get to spend as much with her as I would have liked leading up to her death. I didn’t get a chance to really grieve over losing her, as other family members made it all about them and their loss. I miss her, I miss my Grandma so much. Anyway, sorry to ramble.. thank you for all your hard work and thank you letting us in on your family time… your family Follow me Mondays are soo sweet.

This isn’t verbatim but here’s a basic summary.

Question: What’s your price point for basics at the grocery store?
Answer: Collin gave her price point for cereal at $1 or less (Ma spends over $3.00 when they’re on sale in Cape Cod). She suggested not spending more than a few cents for health and beauty items, like shampoo, because of drug store deals.

Question: How does it work when you use a BOGO coupon during a BOGO sale?
Answer: You should be able to get two items for free. The store is giving you one and the manufacturer is giving you one. Rite Aid even includes that information in their written coupon policy.

Question: How long have you had your blog? How much time do you spend per day/week looking for deals and posting them?
Answer: She’s had her blog since Summer of 2008, so about two years. Ma said that Collin spends about 8 hours/day on the computer. Collin said that she wakes up early, stays up late, etc and devotes a lot of time to helping us out.

Question: What’s the best deal you’ve ever gotten?
Answer: When she first started her blog, Walgreens was running a RR promotion on their store brand diapers. So not only did she get FREE DIAPERS but they were a money maker too! Her Ma bought land in Cape Cod during World War II for $750 – it’s now worth about half a million dollars!

That was just off the top of my head from watching the video once so hopefully people will chime in if I missed anything.

  25. Katie

    Ma for President!!!
My Grandmother was from Barrington, RI but lived most of her life in New Bedford, MA.
Glad you got that great deal on land on Cape Cod.

  26. Kerry

Collin, Your grandma is a hoot! Thanks for sharing her with us.
Quick question — I tried to use a BOGO coupon at Rite Aid with a BOGO promotion, and the manager insisted that I had to purchase one item and receive two for free. I showed her Rite Aid’s coupon policy, but she said that I WAS getting two for free, and that I can’t expect something for nothing. I ended up buying the shampoo because I needed it, but I still thought that I should have gotten two for free without having to purchase one. Was I right?

    • Mrs. B

you were right. even tho YOU are getting the item for free ….rite aid is still going to be paid by the manufactor coupon.

    • Peggy

I think even if they won’t let you get two for free, then you should get four items. Because you buy one get for free twice from the store and then use your coupon for the two you are buying buy one get one for free. So basically you buy one and end up getting three free for a total of four products. This is what I did at Walgreens when the purex was on sale b1g1 and matched with coupon. They allowed me to do this.

    • MommySpendsLess

BOGO combined with BOGO is pretty confusing…for me and the cashiers. I find it easiest to think of it this way: The coupon basically says that as long as you have two Widgets on the conveyor, then the manufacturer will pay the full price of one Widget to the store. So one Widget rings up $0 and one rings up $3.69. The cashier scans the coupon and the register prompts the cashier to enter the price of the item. If they both rang up at regular price, she would enter $3.69 so she should still enter $3.69. It’s really no different than a $1/2 off coupon which takes off $1 off 2 regardless of whether the store is charging $1.01 or $5.01 for the products.

Absolutely Loved your Grandma!!!! You can tell she is your #1 fan!!! Tooo Cute!!!

  33. Robine Wright

Collin…I love how you highlight the most important part of you…your family! Live and love all the deals, recipes..still going on the mango salsa…yum! At some point….you need to find a way people can get that “lemon t-shirt”. Have been trying forever to win!

  34. jen

Collin – I work at a crisis line for seniors and I’m sure you and your readers know how many seniors in our country are struggling financially. I love your site above many others because the deals are so clear as to starting price, coupons to use and final price. There are so many coupons that I don’t use each week, I’m thinking about stopping in at our local senior center with a print out of your deals at local stores along with my unused coupons. There are so many people that just throw their coupons away and don’t even look at them. I feel so fortunate to have found your site but I know some of the aging population do not use a computer and some of them could REALLY benefit from your weekly deals and I know would be so appreciative of it.

  35. Collay

Love you, love the video, love your Gram! You guys were wonderful. I hope we get to see more of your family soon (your mom, husband, etc.)! Thanks again for all that you do…you are so awesome!

  36. jennifer

AWESOME VIDEO! YOUR GRANDMA IS WONDERFUL…YOU SHOULD GO NATIONAL AHD HAVE HER DO YOUR COMMERCIALS!!!…THANKS FOR TAKING TO THE TIME!

  37. BamaVicki

What a charming video. 🙂 I love your Grandma’s t-shirt and her disposition; she reminds me greatly of mine (on my Mom’s side) when she was still living. And that is perfectly what someone of their generation would say about lemons; ‘squeeze them!’ lol- I LOVE your furniture girl! You got some nice stuff, and not bad taste either. 😉 Finally, it is an inspiration to me to get/take-however I need to do it, all of my women in my family, either one by one or two by two, out w/me to see how to coupon. That is prob. gonna be the best way for me is to give them a visual, b/c if I send them coupons, and/or tell them, bless ’em- but it just won’t get done! But what a great way to help others! Well, must get the day started of washing and such. And a little bargain hunting. 😉 Tootle-loo.

  38. Lisa Edwards

Loved the video! Love your MA she is adorable!

  39. Rachel

Ok, I have to find a way to make the part of your MA dancing to repeat itself because my 7-month old son LOVES IT!!!

  40. carla

Collin your Grandma is such a cutie! I am sure this will be a video you will treasure for a long long time! Thanks for the video….love it!

  41. Michelle

OMG, your grandmother is the cutest!! As a fellow Massachusetts resident, she is ABSOLUTELY right about the prices here… it’s ridiculous!! I’d love to pay under $1 for a box of cereal!! I think the best I’ve done is maybe $1.50-$2!! With 2 young boys, I need to keep on couponing and find some better deals, but it’s hard in this state!!

    • Kira

I agree with you, as a MA resident my whole life sometimes I felt like couponing was a waste of time! Luckily the Army moved us to TN last year and we cut our grocery bill by more than half!!
      Great video Collin & Ma!!

      • Christy

You wouldnt happen to be at Ft. Campbell would you? If so, I think we would petition for Collin to come here for Dinner one night. 🙂

    • jen

stock up on the cereal. I shop in MA and usually get the cereal between $1 and $1.25. When it’s about a dollar I stock up. My husband is laughing right now that I have 10 boxes of cereal in my stockpile, but when it’s that cheap you have to buy it because I agree, the norm with sales and coupons is about $2. Collin’s site is my favorite, but I suggest also finding some blogs that are local to you and highlight area grocery stores: Shaws, stop and shop, hannaford, market basket (if you have any in your area).

  42. Angie
