I love when I receive coupon stories and emails that prove it’s worth standing up for yourself. I think it’s great that so many of you take the time to call a store’s corporate office if you are mistreated or if you believe an employee is not following the coupon policy correctly. Please don’t get me wrong…I know there are many wonderful cashiers who are extremely knowledgeable about their store’s coupon policy and treat couponers with respect; however, I believe that it is important to follow-up if you have a bad experience during checkout. With that being said, check out this email I received from reader, Charity:

Charity’s Target Experience

I was Not a happy camper on my first trip couponing at Target. I did get some major deals, but the cashier told me that she couldn’t take the coupons that exceeded the value. I told her the coupon policy states otherwise. She said that if I read all the fine print, it says that each store can decide if they adjust the coupons and their store doesn’t adjust the coupons. I had printed out the policy, but not all the fine print at the bottom, so I wasn’t sure if she was right??? I came home and looked. I don’t see anything that says that. Also, on the 100 calorie Nabisco deal, they said I had to buy 5 boxes to use both coupons. HUH??? That doesn’t sound right. I have been couponing for years, and no other store that stacks coupons has ever told me such a thing. I emailed corporate today. Not expecting much results but we will see. (Why would I want to shop at a store that you have to constantly argue your way out the checkout?)

Email that Charity receives from Target Corporate:

Dear Charity,

I’m sorry your recent trip to our Target store didn’t meet your expectations.

If you have any questions about a specific coupon or experience using a coupon at Target, we want to help! Please give our Guest Relations team a call at (800) 440-0680. We’ll do the best we can to help you as quickly as possible…

In the meantime, I’d like to share with you some information about our coupon policy. When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

– We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.
– We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
– We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we’re able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.
– We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
– All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

Thanks for writing. Give us a call if there’s anything else we can do to help.

Charity decides to call Target Guest Relations:

I spoke with a LOVELY rep. named Michael. (He is now my hero!) He assured me that individual stores do NOT have their own policies and that they should adjust the coupons. He also told me that with buy one get one Target coupons and manufacturer’s coupons that stack… if they scan without beeping the cashier is supposed to take them AS IS because that means that there are sufficient items purchased. Thinking I may go for round two at Target.

Score one for the home team!!!!

GREAT story. I am so glad you called corporate, so many people do not!

  2. Pamela Burmania

    Collin & Charity,

Whilte I love your success story, I am still disappointed with Target’s policy of “adjusting” coupons so they don’t have to pay any overage. Do you think that when they redeem the manufacturer coupons for their reimbursement that they’re taking an “adjustment” on a fixed amount coupon that clearly states it’s valued @ $1, $2, $5, etc.? No! Why do we, the shoppers, have to take the adjustment when Target themselves are not indeed taking an adjustment when they submit for reimbursement. Those of us that take the time to coupon are doing so because 1) we’re unemployed, 2) on a fixed income and trying to stretch our budjet, 3) smart shopppers that are frugal with our money, and the list goes on! What do the two of you suggest we do to combat this issue?
P.S. Collin – Thanks again for making all of these deals available to the rest of us! And Charity – you go girlfriend!

    • mamabear

good point, never thought about it!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only bugged at the fact Target takes our overage and collect face value for the coupon!! Maybe at least if the cashiers were nice about it and thanked us for bringing coupons and giving them extra money, then I would be happier to share the wealth with them!

    • carrie

I just had this conversation with the cashier at Target… she was like, oh? I’m not sure… when clearly, she understood what I was saying. They are taking the full value (plus handeling fees) but adjusting the coupon down on our end. it doesn’t seem right…

    • Erin

On one hand, I can understand why people might be upset about Target getting the overage rather than them, but on the other, it’s hard to understand how they can complain about getting something for *free.*

I mean, what about the manufacturer’s point of view? They probably would like us to buy larger products so they don’t lose out to Target or to the consumer. Be grateful for free items because it would certainly be easy for Target to change its policy so that we wouldn’t be able to use coupons that exceed the value of the item. Likewise, manufacturers could always get more specific with their coupons, making our lives that much harder. If you don’t want Target to get the overage, don’t buy those items.

      • Mary G.

I think I read somewhere that they are supposed to cross out the amount of the coupon and write in the amount that they are adjusting it to. Maybe you could bring a pen and do it for them at the cash register. Otherwise, I am pretty sure it is coupon fraud on their end.

        • sweetiem

I had a cashier who did just that today. To me its not that big of a deal, its only a few pennies most of the time and I still get the item for free.

    • Lisa

I think it may have to do with state taxes. That’s why CVS recently changed it’s policy with ECBs. I used to be able to get things for absolutely nothing, then CVS said they could no longer go towards tax. If we got overage, it would cover tax. Doesn’t make sense that they would still get reimbursed for the full about, but I think that’s why we’re not supposed to get overage. ??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I work for Target, and I think any overage we recieve from coupons be adjusted down, makes up for all of the guest that shop at the stores, use coupons and then turn around the next day and returns the merchandise using our receipt look up function and get back a larger refund then what they actually paid for the item..Example a guest buys a sit and spin ( toy ) for 19.99, use the $10 coupon that was floating around finale cust is 9.99 but when they return the item they get 19.99, gee that’s $10 extra dollers in that guest’s pocket, so I think it pretty much even’s itself out.

      • Lisa

You still get the money for the $10 of from the coupon. when a customer buys an item and uses a coupon, then returns it, they don’t get that coupon back and the company is still reimbursed for it. A store would be committing fraud by claiming money for a coupon that isn’t returned. And someone is not going through the coupons to get a customer’s coupon from a day or even 30-90 days (like most refund periods last for).

  3. danielle

    awesome!

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank you so much for posting this. I left Target with almost the exact same experience the other day. It was so frusterating and I had to put quite a few items back over the difference of a penny with a coupon. This gave me encouragement to stand up for myself!

  5. Tina in VA

    Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

  6. hajra

    Great work there!

  7. Bonnie

That phone number is going in my cell phone right away! Thanks for sharing!

On another note – be sure to check your Target receipts. On my last two trips, a couple coupons didn’t apply (even tho the cashier took them) and an item didn’t ring up at the sale price. It’s hard enough to read their receipts – but worth the extra few minutes! Does it frustrate anyone else how coupons show up on their receipts…sometimes under the item, sometimes under the item but reflected in the price of the item (I think these are Target coupons), and sometimes at the bottom?1?

    • Katie

Yes, I had the same thing happen yesterday on my trip. I watched the cashier ring up my coupons, she did not miss any of them, yet when I was done and looked at my receipt 2 of my high value coupons did not show as having been applied. They were very nice about it and refunded my the money…but I do have this problem quite a bit there. I don’t know what “glitch” they have going in their system, but it is frustrating because I know for a fact I don’t always catch it.

    • Lisa

I watch the screen b/c sometimes the coupon will indicate the item is not there even if it is. If a cashier doesn’t notice, she will just keep scanning! I will just let them know, it didn’t recognize that coupon.

As for the receipts, after some practice, I finally got the hang of it:
Target coupons are deducted from the sale price, creating a “new” sale price. That way if you return the item, you only get that new sale price back b/c Target doesn’t get $ back for their own coupons. THEn if the register recognizes the item a MQ goes with, it will put it on the line underneath the item. If the cashier has to push the coupon through, then it shows at the very bottom of the receipt.

  8. Jennifer S

Awesome I’m happy to know the Nabisco deal is right and will work. I am working on making myself a list of deals to make my $5/$50 grocery coupon I got in the mail even sweeter. Right now I am spending $50 before coupons and after coupons I am sitting at $14. Not bad!!! I’m hoping to find better deals than this and spend less out of pocket.

  9. Charity Woon

    Dear sweet Collin,
I wish the continuation of this story had a happy ending.

When I went to the store with this info for round 2, they would not budge. I had them call corporate… after waiting for an hour, they returned saying they could not do it and that the rep (my dar hero named Michael) did not tell me those things… OK… not happy, but I bit my tongue… HARD. So I called corporate from their phone. They politely informed me that they were documenting everything.

“So, what you are doing is telling me you are writing everything down but cannot do anything?”

“We would hope that the managers would do everything in their power to rectify the situation the best they can.” Then the basic “we are not in the store and trust them to handle the situation properly” routine.

Thank you for writing down my complaint, Mr. Corporate Guy. Seriously not worth the hassle and definitely NOT worth being called a liar, no matter how politely they say it. Thankful I was able to hold my redheaded temper at bay, but I will also be holding my wallet very far from Target from now on.

I am glad many of you ladies are able to get the CORRECT coupon usage at your store. Keep calling. Maybe sooner or later they will get the picture.

    • Rebecca

Poor things! I was @ Target & I used 2 MANUFACTURERS coupons on 1 item! I had a BOGO & $4 off 2 for the SAME things & it worked! The best part…the item I was buying was only $3! The coupon still scanned for the $4 off! I now carry a printout of Target’s coupon policy but haven’t had to us it ever! If you DO get the catalina coupons from Target it CLEARLY states on the coupon you may use 1 manufacturers & 1 Target. I got SO much stuff for FREE using coupons that exceeded the value of the items I bought!

      • Anon.

I have been able to use a B1G1 free coupon WITH another manu. coupon (for an amount off) a couple times, but the last time I tried the cashier & manager wouldn’t let me. I don’t know what the deal was. They told me one coupon per item, but I counted 2 products. They said the coupon worked for both products. Were they wrong?

        • Cheryl

that happened to me on a trip to walgreens. i could have argued till i was blue in the face – they would not budge.

      • Lisa

Even if they “let you” you shouldn’t use 2 MQs on 1 item. Don’t mean to be the coupon police, but that is not proper use of a coupon. If you have a BOGO, you can use the BOGO and a $x off the one you are actually buying, but if you have 2 x $2 MQ off an item, you shouldn’t use both on ONE item. The store won’t get the money back for the second one and will in turn cause stricter coupon usage.

I’m only stating something for new couponers out there so they don’t get discouraged if they try to do the same thing and are not allowed. If I misunderstood your situation, please accept my “I’ll MMOB next time” 🙂

        • Aleshia

Lisa, that’s what you assume. I always ask the manager if something is okay and they tell me yes or no. In fact, one manager at Walgreens said we will take any coupons as long as the register accepts them. With the gillette body wash deal last week. I used the b1g1 free coupon plus a 4$/2 coupon and the register accepted it. Whereas, a couple weeks back I had a deal for revelon tweezers for b1g1 50% off and I applied 2 1$/1 manufacturers coupon and in the May Wag Book the 1$ off. The register would not accect the May Wag Book and the manager refused to take it. So you win some and you lose some. If the manager is okay with it and the register takes it then everything is okay. Every store is different. So, saying that what we are doing is wrong is not okay. In fact, a couple months ago I asked two different managers at Rite Aid if I could use more than 1 5$/25$ purchase and was told twice yes (because I spend 200-300$ each time I go). Then a couple weeks later the manager told me she could no longer do it because corporate told them no. I was fine with that and just started seperating my purchase and using the same amount of coupons. They still lost the same amount of money doing it their way. Like I said, as long as the manager okays it and the register accepts it then you aren’t doing anything wrong (and as long as the coupons aren’t fraudulant). I have also had managers tell me that the won’t adjust the price of coupons like Target does because its against the law to tamper with the coupons.

          • Lisa

I appreciate the clarification, and if the manager is letting you, then I could see why you would; I would if the Manager has indicated it is ok to do as such. Like seen on this post YMMV, and that is very apparent here. I have had cashiers offer to take expired coupons at Wags, and the guy at Rite Aid said I could use a $5/20 AND a $3/15 on a $20 purchase, but I declined.

Coupons usually state one coupon per purchase; if you are only purchasing one item, and using 2 man Q’s on it, then it is more than one per purchase.

I’m not indicating you or anyone else is doing something wrong, but if a new couponer saw this comment and tried to do the same, it would be very confusing. It happened to me when I started couponing at CVS. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t use more than 1 MQ on an item, and then they explained to me why, showing me the print on the coupon.

            Happy couponing everyone!

          • Lisa

            OOPS-
in the comment about me declining the cashier letting me use the expired Qs, etc, I did so because he didn’t know and just said, well I can try it and see if it works… that’s why I said no 🙂

          • Rebecca

The Gillette deal is exactly what I was refering to! If I wasn’t supposed to do it why did the register let me????? I had a HUGE stack of coupons & never got ?nd! P.S. @ the bottom of my receipt said I saved $90!

    • Beth

Hi – I solved my Target coupon problems by going to a different Target store. I am lucky to live in an area where I have several Targets to choose from. My first Target experience was painful and embarrassing – the front manager was very rude and made me feel like I was doing something wrong…but I knew others were having good luck with Target deals so I took my business to another Target – what a difference. Good Luck!

      • Katie

I have had that same experience. I shop in a city with 2 Targets and I have shopped at both….one is NOT coupon friendly AT ALL!! My last experience I had $200 worth of merchandise that once the cashier saw my stack of coupons he stopped scanning and back tracked to match up every single coupon with each individual item. I don’t cheat with my coupons, so I wasn’t worried about that, but it took about 20 to 25 minutes to check out and there were some “not so happy” customers behind me that had to wait for a long time. The whole thing was VERY embarrassing and I will not go to that Target anymore. I even asked the supervisor if this is how they are going to ring up their coupon shoppers from now on and he said “yes”. So…I will go to the other Target when I do my shopping. I have always felt like I am welcomed there. Oh…and I went to CVS a few weeks ago and the cashier there paid me the BEST compliment…She said, ” I love it when you come into the store because I can’t wait to see how much money you save!” I had a HUGE smile on my face walking out of the store. That type of experience is RARE! Good luck everyone with your money saving adventures!

        • carrie

I went in and used a bunch of coupons at Target recently too. The cashier told me I have to start putting the coupon with the item – so that they can scan both at the same time… It seems like they’d fall off the product, get sucked in the belt, etc. I feel much better about handing them over…

          • Rebecca

That DID happen to me @ Target! My $3 off coupon fell into the abyss of the register & the cashier was NOT interested in getting it out! I was SO mad! In exchange the cashier took off $1 measly buck cuz she said she felt bad! When I insisted she look for it she pulled the glass off the scanner only to discover there were LOTS of coupons down there! NONE of them were mine!

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had a good comment from CVS too. The manager said Yes coupons, that way we all win! He said, you save money, I get my money back, and the manufacturer gets you to try their product.

    • amy

I had this same issue with the Nabisco deal. After arguing with my store, speaking to a 1-800 service rep who just said she was told by her supervisor to back the store, and that she was documenting this, i asked if there was someone else to speak with! However, she was a VERY nice older lady named Betty so that softened the blow…. She then transferred me to another lady named Betty who felt that I was correct and while she couldn’t refund my $2.41 should would be mailing me some coupons!

It wasn’t a huge victory but still it was something.

  10. Vee

Thank you so much for the story. I had a bad experience last week with Target. I agree, why shop somewhere where it is so difficult to have coupons applied to your purchase.

  11. Teri

I had a similar experience at Target a few weeks ago. The cashier was refusing to take some of my coupons that exceeded the value of the items. She called the floor manager over who also refused. I pulled out my copy of the Target coupon redemption policy and showed it to her. She looked a little dumb-founded. She radio’d another manager who said, “Yes, of course we will adjust the coupon down.” Thanks to reading Collin’s page, I have a copy of all the store policies I shop at….well, with the exception of Walgreen’s! 😉

  12. Jill

I recently had problems with Target and the Scrubbing Bubbles deal. What a mightmare. I left the store all types of mad that day. Since then, I carry the printed out Target Coupon Policy in my Binder in case I ever have a problem again. I have now printed this story and will take it also. (And I have also learned which cashiers to avoid. That helps also)

    • Suzanne

i just had a problem with the Srubbing Bubbles deal too. I bought 6 items and tried to use 2 $5 gift card WYB 3 SB items. They said I could only use one and would not budge! I lost out on a $5 gift card! 🙁

      • nicole

I would call corporate on that one….If you still have your receipt showing what you purchased and a copy of that coupon….That was n untrue statement from them….I used FOUR in one transaction with no problem at all.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had an issue with the Scrubbing Bubbles too. But, I went back to the store and they fixed it. I had got some other items and got back 5 gift cards. But, when I did the math, they charged me for one of the gift cards.

  13. Lisa

This morning I had the same experience at Target. Cashier was questioning my Lea and Perrins coupon. It’s like I am taking money out of their pockets. Ugh! At the end of the transaction, She handed me catalina target coupons. She wasn’t coupon friendly but gave me more coupons for my next visit. Thanks for the advice. I will call guest relations and tell them of my unpleasant visit.

  14. Joce

Good for you!! Now I know what to do when I encounter the same problem. Thanks!!

  15. Rebecca

Hi Charity, Unfortunately, I’ve encountered similar situations each and every time I shop at Target. I’ve made many calls to the customer service number & I’ve received many apologies from store managers, customer relations employees and such. I get “We’re sorry for you experience when shopping at Target, there must have been some sort of misunderstanding, we’d like you to trust that our cashiers will be informed of our current up-to-date coupon policy. If for any reason you have any questions in regards to coupons, feel free to give us a call or request to speak to a supervisor. We hope you keep shopping at Target.” Then, I’ve gone back to Target, encountered the same scenario, request to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor once again denies my coupons….etc. When I inform them of what I previously was told by customer service or when I try to explain to them their own coupon policy, they always interpret differently. Once again I’m referred to the 800 # to customer service… the vicious cycle run it’s cycle again and nothing every gets better at Target.
Due to personal experience, you’ve received the letter of apologies. Go back and try your purchase again. Let see if they’ll accept their mistake and allow you to make your purchases. My guess is that they won’t! Here in Cali, Target representatives are so rude and don’t abide by the true rules of couponing…. Good Luck, I’m anxious to hear about your returning trip 😉

Frustrating and sad to hear that’s always the outcome when it comes to Target! It happened to me many times until I no longer allow TARGET stores treat me like I’m ignorant, as if I want to make-up my own rules and as if I’m trying to slyly ‘TAKE’ (steal, rob, five finger discount, etc.) from their store! I accomplished this by
        N O L O N G E R S H O P P I N G A T T A R G E T !

    • toph

i agree. though i found a little target store who are coupon-friendly. its the one at Santa Monica/La Brea. Never go to Eagle Rock Target. – LA, CA here

  16. kimberly p

Good job! One time I went to target to get the gillette deotarent cause they were on clearance and the coupon was $4.00 off of 2. They were on clearance for 1.24 each so of course it beeped. A manager came over as I explained to her and the nice cashier all you do it adjust the coupon down to the price of the items. I dont get any overage and I have the coupon policy that says so. THEN the manager told me I can’t use a coupon on a clearance item. I said well that is not true at all and thats not the issue the issue is the coupon is more then the products and this is how you do it per the coupon policy. She wouldnt budge. As now I knew I was not going to win the battle with a manager that didnt even know about using a coupon on a clearance item ( which i told her i have done several times before with no issues or beeps). So i asked for them to take the products off and give me my coupon back. There is a manager that knows her coupon policy like the back of her hand and I saw her as I was walking out! I got so happy and told her what happen, she agreed with me and had me go to c.s. and they took care of me fine! I feel like I won!!!!! Its me and my friend that have binders and shop there all the time. Come to find out we are knowen as “the black binder coupon girls” all cashier gets heads up when we walk in (in a good way) and they now have meetings about their coupon policy cause of US!!!!!! I feel so proud that we are making them look at it and that they have meetings about us and they are all on their toes when we walk in. In one meeting they told their staff “these black binder coupon girls they know their stuff and how to coupon”!!!! hahahahah, love it. They are amazed how much we save ( we had a inside person tell us this) Sorry for the long story

    • Candice

I tell the ladies at my Target that they should know me by now. I try to go to the same cashiers, but they are not always there.

    • Tammy K

Awesome!! i tend to always have a good experience at my target. I usually go during the day on a week day and go to the same cashiers.

    • Rebecca

Yes you can use it on clearance!!!!! Why not? I try to LOOK 4 things on clearance when I have a coupon for something! In fact a cashier told me that 1/2 the time things are on clearance is for the store to get rid of the items quickly to make room for new products.Newer style packaging or scents….

  17. Ann

YAY good for you. I stopped shopping Target a LONG time ago becuase I always had issues. I even carried the coupon policy with me and showed it to them. They looked at me like I was from mars and still refused to honor there own policy.
Well I was hoping this would have changed so I gave Target one last try the other day. I STILL have the same problems, they refused my coupons so I just walked out. To me my area Target is a waste of my time. It is a shame they have to act that way.

  18. Jen

I’ve come to the point of giving up the fight. I don’t have the energy for it right now! I haven’t done much coupon shopping lately and in fact, I’ve haven’t even been clipping Qs. I am still not paying full price though, i have simply quit shopping for the most part. I am able to do this because I have such a huge stock pile of items that I did coupon for. 😉

Once my reserve thins down, I’ll take up the cause again. For now, I’m enjoying my break!

  19. catey angel

TARGET always makes me feel like I’m a CRIMINAL when I try to stack and/or make good use of coupons—not to mention the angry customers in line behind me! I have taken my biz elsewhere now.
Very unfortunate. I didn’t make the policies; they did. Now allow them!

    • Rebecca

Several of you have mentioned how Target makes you feel like a C R I M I N A L S … Here’s my awful upsetting story. When I started coupon shopping at Target , first couple times it wasn’t so bad. I’m talking about back when Target would allow price matching with competitor’s advertised prices & allow both a manufacturers coupon & a Target store coupon. First few experiences were okay, I made out one time with $120 worth of baking supplies, cereal, crackers, etc., for only $1.12! What a deal!
The customer service girls were really excited about my saving and every time I’d go in they’d be really excited to see how much I’d pay… Then, a new elderly associate arrived, actually she had transferred in from another Target store. This is where I no longer felt ‘happy’ shopping at Target. She came in telling the younger girls that they weren’t allowed to accept the coupons the way they were accepting them. She began denying me the use of certain coupons, wouldn’t allow me to use B1G1 with their in-store B1G1 sales… it was a mess!
I requested supervisors many times but as these encounters & experiences piled up, it made my visits to Target worse! It got to the point that each & every time I walked into Target, someone would call security & I’d literally be followed around by the security guard while shopping… he’d walk up & down the aisles with me as if I was a CRIMINAL! He wouldn’t try to hide or be discrete at all. When it was time for me to check out, they’d ask me to make my purchases at the customer service desk (I had nothing to hide, I wasn’t doing anything wrong, so I’d go to the customer service desk as they requested). The security guard would stand next to the cashier who was ringing me up, he’d look at each and every coupon I handed the cashier, he even requested to look the coupons I was holding in my hands. I was appalled by all this that I called customer service to inform them of the type of treatment Target was providing to their customers, they said they would inform the store manager, they apologized and again, requested I keep shopping at Target……. N O T!
I know many have come out of Target with great deals, but what do we have to go through in order to get those great deals? Being called a L I A R, being treated as a T H E I F or a C R I M I N A L ???? It isn’t worth it! Not in my opinion. I’ve not shopped at Target since then and I don’t plan to, NOT now, NOT in the future! I coupon shop just fine without the help of Target. I get just about everything for FREE at CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Albertsons, Vons, Wal-Mart and even K-mart. These other stores don’t make me feel like coupon shopping is stealing… because it’s not. There is N O reason that I need to be mistreated, which basically means,” There is N O reason that I need to shop at TARGET!

      • fairydust

I seriously hope you put all that in a letter (and an email) and sent the whole thing to Target corporate customer service. They really need to know so they can (hopefully) get the message and do something to stop making good customers feel bad to go into their stores.

      • Rebecca

You should file a protection from abuse against the stalker security guard! I would’ve right out asked him why he was following me!

  20. Angie

I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago. I was in line and they sent me to the service desk because the line was long. I was so happy because I thought of all the people to know the policy it would be the service desk. WRONG. She refused to even scan the coupons in because it was above the amount of the item. I told her it should be ajusted down. I even asked her nicely if she could just try scanning it. She did on one and it went through to her surpries but then she refused to scan any more. I asked for her to speak to a manager because the policy stated she was supposed to ajust down. She called the manager 3 times and she never responded to the page. Needless to say I left without a single item. I sent a message to coorprate asking them to post the policy at all their service desks. The email I recieved back stated it was a good idea and they would pass it on to the store.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally agree. My Rite Aid has it right next to the register, so if I ever encounter any trouble I can say SEE!

  21. Candice

I have been going to do my Target shop every 2-3 weeks. I spend about 45 minutes checking out each time and it drives me nuts. Then when I look at my receipt I find that things aren’t ringing the correct price. There is one Target 3 minutes away and another 20 minutes away from me and thats it! Not many people use coupons here in New Orleans and it always seems to be a problem. I save too much money, so I keep doing it, but it’s def. a headache. I’ve contacted corporate and they have done nothing…

    • Deanna

I’m couponing in the New Orleans area…

I haven’t tried much “outside of the box” at Target, it’s been pretty straight forward…one coupon per item with no adjustments needed (so far). When the Gillette Men’s Body Wash was on clearance and ended up free with a $4/2 coupon, they would only accept that deal once. Wasn’t sure why…but my significant other stopped on his way home from work, and took the cashier at her word instead of asking for the why of it. I was just glad he was willing to make the stop for me!

    • Tawanda!

I’m also in the NOLA area, and I admit it, I profile. I’m a semi-regular, so I know the cashiers who won’t give me a hard time or who are receptive to me as a couponer. I would love to get together with both of you fellow couponers. My email address is ta_mc@live.com

  22. Tonya

Charity, I commend you on being persistent but I did not have the patience or the TIME to deal with those people!! I kept seeing ALL the GREAT deals everyone was getting so I thought, I would go make a run for it. I had to pull EVERY item back out of the bag to see if i had bought it and let me say it was all under 20 items. (So they cannot even remember the items they JUST scanned) then she told me the same thing about coupons and when I told her that was not the policy she wanted me to speak with the Manager I just didn’t even want to deal with it.Target is across town from me and I have Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens and Publix only 3 miles from home that will honor my coupons, respect me as a customer and value my patronage so that is where I will spend my time & $$

    • Charity Woon

I agree with you Tonya. I posted above how my next visit went…. not so happy. There comes a time when you have to ask yourself is it worth the money you save. When they questioned my integrity both in the store and in corporate… they crossed the line. Even if they were to fix the policy issyes, I will not support them or go back in their stores for any reason. God is my provider, not the stores or the coupons. They are just tools. So I will trust that where God closes one door, He will provide through another. (I love CVS!)

      • Sabine

That is a very healthy attitude toward saving money. When you think about it, the stores have very little to sustain us for life. We need a little food and maybe some soap, etc. We are not slaves to these retail establishments.

I will have to say that I have never really had issues at Target concerning coupons but reading all these posts makes me believe it could change at any time. My Target does have their coupon policy posted by each register, so no need for me to carry it around, just point it out if need be.

At this point in my couponing, I have become more frustrated by the lack of “good” coupons that turn up in my local paper. Seems we are always getting a $1 for 2 items when everyone else gets $1 off 1. I usually do better with Internet coupons and purchasing the higher value coupons from a clipping service.

Kroger has been the most coupon friendly store to date and I am very grateful for them.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Charity I totally agree! I am not only purchasing items for myself but to give away to people who need it. I started doing this about 3 months ago and have enjoyed doing it and just giving stuff away. I absolutely LOVE CVS, Walgreen’s & Publix. The people there are sooo helpful and I have had some go out of their WAY to help me. It is also a great way to witness to the people (workers) when I tell them what I do with all the DEALS. I am so glad when God provides for us and I feel since He is providing me with the time, thought and money, I get to bless others. How cool is that??

        • Charity Woon

Great job Tonya! I love inviting people over to my house who I know could use some help, and saying, “Step into my store! I have too many of certain items and need to make some room. Can you use these?” It is like Christmas to them! No greater feeling in the world that helping others! I don’t know if your church has a missions closet, but that is another idea for the extra items. We are missionaries to a 3rd world country, and it really helps missionaries who are travelling to have access to things like a missions closet.

Even if my cabinets are full, I never turn down freebies because they can help others too. 🙂 Many times God gives to us so we can give to others and show the love of Christ.

  23. nicole

I had a similar experience last week at Target where it took me FORTY FIVE minutes to check out as a team LEADER went through every single item and coupon and then proceeded to tell me that he doesn’t HAVE to take my coupons and I had way to many and he didn’t WANT to deal with it….I said “no problem, I will call your corp office”…he said “go right ahead” to his suprise I pulled out my cell and called from the check out counter……he ended up using EVERY single coupon I had AND apologizing but I did call back and make a complaint about him beacuae he was so rude and disprespectful to me.

    • Heather G

Thats great! I LOVE it! I had a simlar story to Charity…But I DID have a happy ending.

  24. Foreversaving

My husband and me had the same problem. The cashier didn’t accept their own store coupon because it was higher than the price of the product and another one because it was a travel size and even though the coupon didn’t exclude it she would accepted. The manager was called in and she kept the same position. We were amazed they didn’t accept their own coupon. So we called the corporate office from their parking lot and they asked us to go back and had them to accept the coupons. It’s been more them a year that happened and now we have no problem buying at their store. I’ll go there today and hopefully everything will go smoothly.

    • Lisa

That’s silly b/c their store coupons automatically adjust. Silly, just silly!!

  25. Lisa

I have not had to much trouble at target, I have made them look like I new more than they did about there own policys before.

  26. Charity Woon

I posted the round 2 results above.

  27. Micki

I used to LOVE shopping at Target and did so weekly. It’s been more than a month since I’ve shopped there because of some of this same crap. I refuse to be berated or quizzed by an inept and unknowledgeable cashier or manager. I’ve just taken my money elsewhere.

For the life of me I don’t understand why some cashiers and managers want to be coupon nazis. Are they really that ignorant about how their store is reimbursed?

  28. Annette

I’m always baffled when I read these terrible stories about Target experiences. I must live in an area with great Targets, because I rarely have problems shopping there. There’s only one Target in my area that gave me some problems about coupons, but they recently had some fraudulent coupons go through for free items, so their cashiers were told to be very careful. I usually go to to the Sherwood, Oregon store and they’re awesome! There’s only one cashier that I avoid because she doesn’t seem to understand the coupons, but everyone else doesn’t even bat an eye when I hand them a huge stack of coupons! I don’t have any of them questioned either, even when they beep. The cashiers are smart enough to say, “yes you did buy that item” and push it through. I’m thankful that most of them don’t let the register think for them. I’d definitely recommend trying another store if you have a bad experience (if you have multiple stores in your area).

    • Lisa

That’s how it is for me, too. And if one beeps, I go ahead and pull out the item to show them. That way I can keep things moving. And like you said, alot of times they will say, well I KNOW you bought that b/c I saw it!!! And, yes, there is one store that doesn’t have a clue, and I avoid that one.

Hopefull, things will get better. Target i pretty ambiguous when it comes to customer service.

    • Jennifer S

I live in Kansas and I have Targets like you no problems even if it beeps they let it go thru.

    • Karen

I too shop @ the Sherwood OR Target and have never had a bad experience. Gotta give the good one credit too!

  29. Regina

Does anyone know if the Lafayette, IN store is one of the ones giving the trouble? Usually I haven’t had a problem there but then a few weeks ago I was told that they would put through the Benedryl Itch Stick deal for me but that they have a new policy where they can’t accept any coupon that is over the price of the item. Knowing that this is not the case per the policy online, I was concerned but wondered if it was just that cashier since i’ve never had an issue there prior to that. Just wondering if others in the area have noticed anything!

    • Annie

I had a lot of trouble with my last two purchases at the Lafayette store and ended up at customer services both times. They did not ring my purchase up right, did not take off coupons and treated me like I was doing something wrong. I am going to stick with Meijer!!

  30. Olivia Smith

Awesome story, thanks for posting!! 🙂 Good job Charity, keep it up!

  31. Yvette

I had a similar experience with Target and had to go through the same things. First, I sent an e-mail and a friend of mine got basically the same “blanket” response. We were both directed to call and I did. It was an awesome experience talking to an actual person. He assured me I would not have any problem in the future because he was calling the store as soon as we hung up the phone. He also suggested I take my e-mail correspondence with me to the store and refer them to the reference number I was given and his name to call if I had any problems.
I went to the exact same cashier on the second trip, she called the manager of course and she told her she was to take the coupons and just reduce the amount. (This manager wasn’t there the day before)
I now go to the same cashier because she is as friendly as she can be and now knows the store policies.
    Happy Target shopper once again!

  32. Rebecca

Several of you have mentioned how Target makes us feel like a C R I M I N A L S … Here’s my awful upsetting story.
There is N O reason that I need to be mistreated, which basically means,” There is N O reason that I need to shop at TARGET!

    • Charity Woon

I agree. I posted above about my SECOND trip result. I thought I had them right where I wanted them… boy, was I wrong.

Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

Once they questioned my integrity even from corporate, I am done with it. I would rather not get the great savings and trust my God to supply my need, than to have my name marred.

    • Katie

I have felt that way one time or another at all the stores I have shopped at with coupons. I have 7 kids, so this is far more worth it to me to get my deals. I have changed from one Target to another, or one Walgreens or another to avoid the criminal feelings, but in the end, I know that I am not doing anything wrong and usually just grin and bear it. Walgreens by far has been the worst about making my feel like a criminal, after several trips in a row being bussled off to a register in the make-up area and having the manager stand “guard” while to cashier rang me through, I had finally had enough and I told the manager, ” I want you know how much of a criminal you guys make me feel everytime I come into your store, I am not doing anything wrong, I am not passing fraudulant coupons, I have been coming into this store every week for the last 3 months and you have found nothing wrong with my coupons, don’t you think it is time to trust me?” She just talked about the fraudulant coupons and such and that is why they have to do it, BUT ever since then, I have had no problems. The binder is the homing device for most of the stores, they see it and go into panic mode. I think we just have to stand up for ourselves and if we keep having problems, either grin and bear it, or move on to another store.

      • ginger hood parr

        Katie-
I’ve had bad expereinces with Walgreens in my area also. Many times they do not have the sale item. Also, when they put things on sale (like toothbrushes) for .99 they will not let me use 1.00 off coupon…. just ridiculous!

      • Sara

I have a large tote that my binder fits in (like the one Collin uses in her instructional video), I will often zip it up before I get to the registers so most cashiers never see it. As I go through the store and find items, I place the coupons in an envelope/folder thing. That way when I get to the register there is no thinking involved for me. All I’m holding is my wallet and that envelope.

  33. donna

I have had multiple similar experiences at Target. After about the 6th one, I emailed corporate and got the “obligatory” response, identical to what the original poster posted here. The email suggesting that I am the one who doesn’t know how to use coupons. Target is way to difficult to deal with…does not educate their cashiers OR managers on how to use coupons OR what their own corporate policy is. Many stores are just plain rude.
I can get great deals elsewhere and they are SO NOT WORTH THE HASSLE!! After so many trips leaving me so frustrated – I DON’T NEED THAT. I follow a lot of bargain blogs – when the Target deal posts pop up – I just scroll right by!
I am a perfectly happy frugal great-deal-finding shopper without them!

  34. Anonymous

I wish someone could forward this whole sequence to Target corporate!! I’m with all those who say “it’s no longer worth it”. I do just fine shopping elsewhere.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That is not a bad idea. Someone should forward the link to this post along with any other coupon bloggers sites that report Target issues. That might be a wake up call to them to see how many are unhappy.

  35. serious

Since there are so many Target stories out there, I wonder if Target corporate will pay more attention if you each email them with the store information that mistreated you. Write a nice email to Target corporate explaining what happened to you, and that unless the situation is rectified, you will take your business elsewhere. Copy the BBB too! If you speak to a manager in the store, I would definitely include the manager’s name in the letter.

    • Rebecca

That sounds like a fabulous idea!

  36. Jenn

    Hi guys,

I also had an experience Monday, at my local Target, not adjusting a coupon price down. I had the $3/1 pair of Merona flip flops coupon. I got a pair marked for clearance at $4.98. When I got to the register it scanned $2.48. The cashier tried to scan my coupon but it would not go through. She then refused to put it through b/c it exceeded the value of the merchandise. I told her I did not expect cash back, but she could adjust the price of coupon down. She refused. There were two very frusterated shoppers behind me in line, so I paid for my items and left. I then called the store manager, who tried to tell me that coupon would not apply to clearance items. When he finally realized I was not buying that, he then said they could not adjust the coupon amount down to the price of the item. I was doubly frusterated but remained polite. Today, I called corporate guest services, who assurred me that their coupon policy clearly states that they can. “Karen” said she was sending a message to the store and putting a $3.00 off your next purchase for Target coupon in the mail to me. It should take 10 days. I’ll keep you posted. Of all the stores, Target seems to habitually have problems with their coupon policy. I avoid the store at all costs unless they just have some extremely good deals.

  37. MandaKay

I have always had relatively great experiences at Target! I just got back from there and scored 2 free tide travel size pouches, 2 free travel satin care shave gels, and some of the .12 cent kids Aquafresh, Nexcare straw. shortcake bandaids for .37 cents, 2 Classico sauces for $1.99, and 4 Bounty Basic paper towels for $2! The total came to almost $18, and I only paid a little over $6! The cashier never even batted an eye at the coupons he put thru, and for the one’s with overages he just pushed thru as is! So I think total I actually had .04 cents go towards other items!!! Anyway – it all comes down to the fact, and I have it at every store i use coupons at, that it is all just hit or miss! I don’t think Target is any better or worse in general, I think it just depends on who is checking you out and how bad of a day they are having! 😉

    • Erin

Yes, I am also baffled by the trouble so many seem to have at Target. I’m wondering if it is some combination of location (stores that are heavily hit by couponers and thus attempt to limit coupon use) and deal (people who do too many–or only–questionable/YMMV/too good to be true deals). I rarely have trouble at Target, although today the cashier didn’t want to use my Target buy three, get one free coupons, and I have to say, I thought that was a pretty questionable deal, as well. Think about it this way: I bought four Oscar Mayer lunch meats at $3.04 and I used two $2 coupons and two $1 coupons, so I wasn’t paying full price for any of them, yet Target refunds the full price of one package. That’s like giving overage. The Nabisco snacks deal makes a bit more sense to me, because mfg coupons were only used on two items, but I can see how super couponing can be difficult for noncouponing cashiers to get. I mean, I’ve used coupons for years, and I never would have dreamed of using a bogo q and $X/1 coupon together–I always thought a bogo coupon was for both items (like $X/2). Anyhoo, to make a long story short, I explained that Target and manufacturer coupons can be stacked, I bought enough items, coupons are a form of payment, yada yada, and asked her to please try to scan the Target coupons. She did and the register accepted them, so she gave them to me, still maintaining that “technically” I shouldn’t have gotten it. She was very nice about it, and I have to say, if the coupons beeped and she refused to accept them, I probably wouldn’t have argued (nor would I have purchased the items). I don’t know why, but I have a tough time wrapping my head around this one. And if these (and free travel items) are they types of deals people are getting shot down on, I guess I can understand it!

      • Lisa

I did the Oscar Mayer deal, too! You are still couponing according to Target’s policy: one TQ and one man Q per item. this was my deal:

Buy 4 Oscar Mayer Lunch Meat
        – 4 $1 off Man Q
        – TQ ($3.04)

Target gets money from the manufacturer even on the FREE one you received. So they don’t lose money.

        • Erin

Right–the manufacturer eats it. I get the stacking aspect, but it just seems odd to me because it’s buy “three get one free.” Technically, I didn’t get one free–it was more than free. I think it would make more sense to me (and be clearer to cashiers) if it was a straight dollar amount. I wonder how often it’s these gray areas where people run into trouble.

  38. Heather G

I shop at Target in Hurst, tx. I DID have an issue with the cashier not taking my scrubbing bubbles coupons. I said ok, “I will be calling corporate”. I called corporate….The nice girl assured me that my deal was valid and it could be done. She gave me a reference number of our store to take with me. I went again a few days later and the manager was of GREAT help. I have NEVER had problems with coupons at my stoer until now…But, I got a happy ending.

ALWAYS GET A REFERENCE NUMBER WHEN YOU CALL CORPORATE. If you have a problem the girl at the corporate number assured me that you can always goto guest service and request to call from “the red phone”.

  39. Maura

Reading this post encouraged me to call guest services as well since I had a HORRIBLE experience yesterday at Target and they wouldn’t take anything that beeped, even if I was following exactly what the coupon said. I called my buddy Troy at Guest Services and he said it sounded like a “training opportunity for the store” and would look into this matter.
    WOOHOO!

  40. Breann

I feel bad that you all have had so many problems. I never have problems with Target…and have actually gotten overage (not back but to use on other items)> they are always nice at the check out. They never question my coupons as long as I have the item they put it thru. I dont understand the huge variance…but maybe we have less coupon users around here so they arent bombarded or something???

  41. Lolo

I just want to make you all AWARE that you can take a store manager over to the kiosk that they have in the store (usually at front by the doors) where they have the wedding registry etc…. and pull up the Target Coupon Policy right there in fornt of the manager and if you know they are making stuff up ask them to show it to you in writing. When they can NOT then simply point out the part that applies to your situation. This will have more wight than simply carrying around your own copy of the policy which could be doctored up in any number of ways. Maybe you could make a mention of this in a main page post Collin so that everyone can see it. Let’s fight those coupon unfriendly stores with their own policy! I did it once and it took a bit of time but the manager acquiesced and I have not had the problem of adjusting the coupon price down again! It is worth a little effort to win while still in the store with that particular purchase. Like in Charity’s case had she gone over to the kiosk and asked them to show her in writing where it said they can do what they want and they were unable, I am confident they would have wavered some and then a call to corporate on top of it right in front of them may have pushed them over the edge because they would have no excuses as the coupon policy was pulled up right in fornt of them on their website in their store! GL to all and do not forget to use the kiosk to your advantage. Get familiar(at home) with The target website and where to go to pull up the coupon policy so you can do it quickly and efficiently while you are in store should you need to.

  42. Angela

I too had a miserable experience at Target in Watsonville, Ca yesterday. There is a $5 gift card promo on Kashi products. I have MQ’s for 4 of the 5 items and was told by the cashier and her supervisor that I cannot combine a gift card promo with MQ’s. That was news to me since I have done it before on other promos. I called corp as well as e-mailed them. I simply asked Mike at Corp. if there is a new policy about combining MQ’s with a gift card promo. He never gave me a yes or no answer, but said he will be sending some coupons and will bring this issue up to the store leadership. I emailed later because I felt like he was just trying to appease me instead of answering my question. He did tell me that the individual stores are “empowered to make their own desicions with regard to accepting coupons.” This seems to contradict the point of having a corporate coupon policy in place.

    • Erin

I think that really sucks–it’s not like you were trying to walk away with their entire travel section like some do.

  43. ginger hood parr

I have had many bad target coupon & sale experiences also so I have come to the conclusion that I only shop there when they are having a really unbelieveable can’t be beat sale (which is rare). I had issues when they were running free gift cards for buying 2 hp printer inks & went round & round with the cashier & a front end manager. They said it was only the 2 pictured but there were signs on every one of them back there. I finally got my gift card after 30 minutes when they could have just walked over there & looked in about 5. I also had trouble using scrubbing bubbles store coupons with manufacturer’s coupons. I ended up getting 15 items & having about 20 coupons & they refused to take them all.

    • ginger hood parr

I’ve also had cashiers scrutinize my coupons & ask did you buy this? what about this? before even trying to scan my coupons…. i don’t understand why she didn’t just try to scan them first.

  44. Tokyo

Tried doing this deal yesterday and was made out to be a common criminal because I was trying to use both mfc coupons. So to clarify I can use both mfc coupons on this deal right. I explained that I was using the bogo on the free item and the $2 off of the one I was actually purchasing and she jumped down my throat and told me I was cheating the store and trying to make money.
    Off Clip-On Fan Starter $7.99
Buy 2 and Use the buy one get one FREE coupon from here
Use the $2/1 coupon from here
Plus, stack with the $2/1 Target coupon from here
    Final cost $3.99 for two!!

I’m so frustrated for you Charity! First of all, I don’t understand WHY Target gives individual stores the latitude to set their own coupon policies. That’s just garbage. The WHOLE POINT of having a chain anything (restaurant, store, etc) is that you can expect the same things from any one of their stores you go to no matter where the store is aside from a product that is not regionally available or legal. This coupon policy is like McDonald’s saying that they leave it up to individual stores whether or not to sell french fries. UGH.

Aside from that, I don’t understand why stores would object to heavy couponers. I mean the more stuff that moves off of the shelf is better for the company as a whole since they get reimbursed the coupon amount. A good example of this is the $4 Nivea coupon. Just about everywhere had some sort of sale paired with this recently. Chances are though that if I come in to Target to get it for free, I might pick up a little something else I want or need. So Target gets the $4 from the coupon and my money for my impulse buy. However, when they treat people like this over and over again, I start to re-think my shopping and spend my $4 Nivea coupon at Rite Aid or CVS. Enough people doing this cuts into the bottom line. It seems like moving 25 cases of Nivea and being reimbursed through coupons would set good numbers for the store and reflect on the store manager as well.

I just don’t get it. Therefore, I rarely shop there anymore.

Well, I’m not going to be very popular, but I can see why stores might have policy variations. I’m not saying I love it–I just understand it and move on. A local Kroger (until recently, the only local chain that regularly doubled coupons) decided not to accept IPs over $1! That stinks. I used to like that store, but I won’t shop there til that policy changes. Considering Kroger is now getting some competition in my area, I have to assume the IP crackdown is related to fraud, and I blame greedy customers for that–not the store. I am one of those perhaps rare couponers who likes limits. When I go to CVS and the shelves are bare, I feel confident that one person armed with a stack of e-Bay coupons didn’t wipe them out, so I can’t feel bad about missing out. (Actually, I never assume that one person wiped out the store when a shelf is empty, even though I’ve even seen it and know it happens.) With no limitations, it’s a lot harder for stores to maintain sufficient inventory for everyone. Now I realize that not everything I want is always going to be in stock, but more often than not, I should be able to get my one or two deals and not compete with someone who purchased sixty coupons off e-Bay. Yes, he/she has a right to purchase and attempt to use that many coupons. Stores also have a right to limit, as they are retail establishments, not wholesalers.

I see what you are saying and I do agree with some of it. I have the same experience with my CVS and Walgreens in that if I don’t get there by 9am on Sunday morning I can just kiss getting any of the good stuff goodbye. I don’t have an issue with limits on coupons (on of my favorite stores limits same item coupons to 3 so I’ve just developed that as a habit and usually that’s only for stuff I really use a lot of) and I think it does make things fair. I think that wouldn’t even be a bad overall corporate policy. In Charity’s case above, they were trying to get her to buy MORE boxes thereby clearing the shelves further so the limits issue I don’t think applies to this case.

My issue is more not having a clearly defined policy from one store to the next so you never know what you ARE allowed to do so you can play fairly then to be treated as a less than desirable customer for trying to do a deal that you think is fair because it goes by the few guidelines they do put out is just wrong IMO. I’ll take my 2 Nivea coupons to CVS and hopefully 25 other couponers might do the same if the local Target continues to be resistant and less than friendly to non-fraudulent coupon use. When I speak about “heavy couponers” I was referring to using coupons for tons of items vs. 34 Nivea coupons. If I buy 2 or 3 shampoos, soaps, cookies, frozen dinners, band aids, socks, lipsticks, board games etc and use coupons I think that’s fair “heavy” couponing.

I guess I just feel like people are going to improperly use anything and steal from stores whether it be by just taking an item or couponing or even improperly returning an item. It doesn’t mean that you treat everyone that takes you up on your offer to print YOUR STORE coupons and spend their manufacturer’s coupons in your store like you are doing them a favor by letting them shop in your store or like they are doing something wrong.

I’ve also had several bad experiences in target…refusing to adjust the price down, saying you can use a coupon on clearance items, etc. etc. etc. I just keep calling corporate everytime. At least I get the satisfaction of knowingI’m right! It so sad that the consumers are better educated on Target coupon policies than the managers of the store themselves!

What timing! I just got off the phone with Target (corporate). I was in the store earlier today and of course using coupons. The cashier huffed and puffed her way through it and kept giving me dirty looks. Goodness! On top of that she didn’t give me my re-useable bag discounts. After returning home, I called the Target guest relations and talked to a sweet lady. She seemed to be genuinely shocked and upset and the situation. She also really knew her coupons information, as she was telling me all about their coupon policy and how to get coupons off of their site and everything before I even told her anything about my situation. Long story short….. the complaint went to everybody that would need to know and she sent me some Target store coupons good on any purchase. I can’t wait to get those in the mail and pair them with even more deals.

By the way Target has some sweet clearance deals on Pantene. Some of the Pantene products were being clearanced for $1.61 and if you still have those $1/1 and $1/2 coupons that makes it even sweeter.

Who did you talk to? at least she seemed willing to help… Everyone i talked to, spoke broken english, so it was a hard time trying to communicate and get answers… even the customer service people had gotten frustrated…i Very rarely get the bag discount, i gave up trying to fight small things, its hard enough to get them to put it in my bag as opposed to their plastic bag….i would love to call and speak to who you spoke to 😀 at least she seemed to understand what you talked about when you asked to use coupons…

Unfortunately I am terrible with names and for the life of me I can’t remember her name. She did have a heavy a accent, but I could still understand her any heavier and we would have had issues. I did thank her for our phone conversasion, see really was a nice lady. I don’t normally have any trouble getting the bag discount, but you do have to practically throw your bags in their face to get their attention. They really should work on this area if they want people to use re-usable bags. I don’t have a Target close to me it takes about 45 minutes to the closest Target store, so I plan my trips to Target in I am going to be in town anyway. For now I still like Target, but if they start treating me like they have treated some you all my veiws and shopping will change. I like Target better than Wal-Mart and K-mart. I can barely stand going in the other 2 stores. I do still shop them simply because I am on an extremally tight budget.

I have had similar experiences… but with the toilet gel and freshbrush coupons… Where you buy 1 you get the other free…. they wouldnt take it, and told me that its a bogus copuon. i tried calling the customer relations number (have like 3 calls and reference numbers to go with each) … i spent time on my cell phone, they called from the store and didnt get through…when they did , they got hung up on, when the customer service team member asked the customer relations person to please hold so they could try typing the number in. In the end, they wasted my cell phone minutes, because obioulsy i was the only one who could get through – finally the one person we were transfered to called the store itself… ) to tell them u can adjust a coupon price down, and they still wouldnt allow me to use my scrubbing bubble coupon…because i had a price match and they considered it an offer… i tried asking them to take off thte price match and try, but the casher was adiment they coulnt… 🙁 very frustrating… emailed the corporate office and got sorry, you had the problems, here is the coupon policy, call the relations number for help…i emailed back and told them i TRIED CALLING, thats why i was EMAILING… and got a im sorry we cant help! UGGGGGG!!!! Target is just sooo convenient of a place for me to shop

i just tried calling sc johnson and told them i loved their buy1get1 coupons, but according to target they were bogus, she said she was going to send me manuf coupons in the mail – hard copies they print not the ones we print in b/w or color….at least they were understanding and appologetic… it didnt fail though, all 3 their coupons i have tried – the toilet gel, or the sb refils or the glade warmer coupons, didnt work, and it was a hastle each time.

Why does the type font of the replies get bigger and bigger for each reply? If there’s like 5 replies for a comment the last reply is so big I can hardly read it! Is this just my computer or does it appear like that to everyone? I love this site but the huge font makes it hard to read.

I think it is the computer… doesnt do it on my desktop but does it on my laptop.
