We did their backpacks and lunch bags last year. They held up really well. The lunch bag clipped to the outside of the backpack too. We are definitely going to try and get them tomorrow for all 3 kids.

My son’s backpack from first grade did not hold up very well (it wasn’t from Old Navy, though). I have to get him a new one for this year. Should I expect to have to buy a new one every year? My other thought was to wait for the heavy-duty $80 ones to go on clearance and buy one of those. Does anybody have any opinions on this? Thanks!

I just bought some from Costco that seem really nice. I have always bought a new one every year. The expensive ones would probably hold up longer but my boys’ backpacks tend to get pretty gross. I would hate to see that thing after two years!

In grade school my goal has been for the back back to last two years. I found when my son entered middle school/junior high his notebook was much larger and he would be bringing books home. So I went with a more heavy duty, larger pack. He is actually using my camping day pack and it hardly has any wear.

I’m having some stress over school shopping. I can’t decide what is the better deal-Kohls, JCPenny, Old Navy, etc. How do you decide without going to 4 or 5 different places? Would appreciate any opinions. Also, I have boys and they hate to shop!

Back to School costs are expensive. I go where the deals are to be honest. Kohl’s gave a $10 coupon M-Th this week for any purchase. I went and bought a small item on my list (bra, socks, etc. each day, spent about $15 OOP and got 6 $10 coupons.) Now today is the first day of tax-free weekend shopping so I already went and bought 2 purses on clearance (used 1st $10 coupon and got purses for “free”). My daughter and I went last night and had 2 purses and a couple of other items held. I will now take her shopping and will get earrings and bras and use my 2nd $10 coupon and then put something else on hold. I will do this until all my $10 coupons are gone. It requires several trips to Kohls but to be honest we live right behind it so it is on my way to and from work.

Is this a lot of work, yes, I did this last year–got enough underwear on clearance to last a year for the girls. I have 4 kids and work full time plus am a single mom. I make a list of what we need and look at my budget and then go where the deals are and stretch my money as far as I can. Kohl’s is the best for my girls’ underwear, basic tees and accessories plus I like the quality. I went to Staples for back packs and got my family to help with getting “free” back packs. I save GCs all year from Target and use for Back to School and Xmas. Again, I make a list and then start looking for deals. My kids are baby to pre-teen. They know to behave or I get a friend/family to watch them when I do real bargain hunting. If a deal is not there I just move onto and try to have a plan B. Lots of work but my kids are well dressed and have what they need.

Ok girlfriend…4 kids, full time working single mom??? You are my HERO. seriously.

        • Katie

Mine too! And looking for deals? If I was that busy, I’d get too frustrated trying to save money!

Hmm just bought a set last week, do ya think if I took in reciept, I can get the difference??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was wondering about this too. I remember this conversation before (price adjustments) and cannot remember what Target’s policy is. Does anybody know?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had bought a backpack back in June. I just took my receipt and the backpack back in. They had to return it and then I re-purchased it and got the free lunch box.

OFF TOPIC can someone tell me how to access TRU coupons? they are on the site somewhere. I wanted the 4 dollar off tag reader coup

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Does anyone know if the Old Navy Lunch packs are BPA free? Are they lead free? I looked on their website and it said nothing, so I assume they are not. Does it say on the tag? TIA!!
