"Follow Me Monday" to Rite Aid…

Yippee! I am so excited about this “Follow Me Monday” video. First, because it’s my first real “Follow Me Monday” video since taking a break this summer and second, because I get to shop at Rite Aid– one of my favorite stores! 😀

Thanks to Rite Aid, I was able to get permission to film at my local Jacksonville, North Carolina Rite Aid. The video below highlights all the great deals that I was able to score (keep in mind that this video was filmed back in August, so the deals are not available anymore) and also shows how the +Up Rewards program works. In addition to the video, please read through the outline below which will help you to become a very “Hip” Rite Aid shopper (this outline will be especially helpful for new couponers or those of you who have not yet shopped at Rite Aid)!

(1) Head over to Hip2Save and check out the weekly Rite Aid store deals. These deals highlight all the current Single Check Rebates, +Up Reward items, and sale items paired up with manufacturer coupons, Rite Aid in-ad coupons, Video Values coupons, and total purchase coupons (if applicable). Click on the print icon (located to the right of the post title) for the Rite Aid weekly deals and you can print out your own personalized list to take with you into the store. Pay special notice to the deals that I have highlighted in red as these are my favorite deals for the week.

(2) Get to know the Rite Aid Video Values program. This program allows you to watch a quick video advertisement (usually 30 seconds-several minutes) and then be rewarded with a coupon for the advertised product. These Video Values coupons are actually Rite Aid store coupons and CAN be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons! Keep in mind that your coupons can only be printed once. To print coupons, go to the My Rewards tab, check the box of the coupon(s) you want to print, and then click the print coupons button. When you have watched 20 video credits, you will earn a bonus coupon of $4 off any purchase of $20 or more (this bonus coupon is limited to one per customer per month). One of the best perks about the Video Values coupons is that they typically do not expire until the end of the following month AND they do not have to be printed immediately. For this reason, I recommend that you watch all of the available Video Values programs each month… you will then have access to all the coupons in the My Rewards tab, so that you can print them at a later date if you need them to snag a great deal.

(3) Get to know the Single Check Rebate program. This program allows you to buy participating Single check Rebate products, then submit your receipts online and get a check in the mail. Each month, Rite Aid will release a new rebate booklet in-stores advertising all the current Single Check Rebate items; you can also go here and browse through the rebate offers online. Keep in mind that some Single Check Rebates are only valid for one week, while others may be offered for the whole month. Make sure to check the dates closely for each participating Single Check Rebate item.

As you make purchases throughout each month, you can save your receipts and enter them online all at once at the end of the rebate program period (typically this is the end of the month). If you prefer, you can enter your individual receipts each time you make a purchase throughout the month (there is no limit to the number of receipts you can enter); I prefer this option as there is less of a chance that I will lose the receipt(s) or forget to enter it.  At the end of the month, request your rebate by clicking the request rebate button. Do NOT click the “request rebate” button if you are planning on purchasing more Single Check Rebate items before the rebate program period has ended as Rite Aid ONLY allows one submission per household.

(4) Become a Wellness + Rewards member…it’s FREE and necessary to be a savvy Rite Aid shopper! You’ll earn points each time you shop that will enable you to snag special discount passes and more. Be sure that the cashier scans your Wellness + card prior to you checking out (if you forget your card, just give them your phone number).

(5) Get to know the +Up Rewards program exclusively available to Wellness + Rewards Members. Each week, you can browse the Rite Aid weekly ad for featured +Up Rewards products (or just check out the weekly deals at Hip2Save). Buy these products using your Wellness + card and you’ll receive a +UP Reward which consists of a coupon or a number of coupons that print at the bottom of your receipt and can be used on your NEXT purchase like cash. Each advertised +UP Reward is limited to 1 per wellness card (unless otherwise stated). And here’s the best part… there is no limit to the number of +Up Rewards redeemed in a single transaction as long as the pretax total is greater than the combined value of the +UP Rewards.

(6) Read through the Rite Aid corporate coupon policy. I always recommend that you print a copy of this policy and bring it with you while you shop. If any issues should arise, this coupon policy should definitely help clear things up!

Now check out this new “Follow Me Monday” Rite Aid shopping video… Enjoy!

  2. Krysta b

I love these little videos , they show your personality so well… Thank you for your hard work and devotion to saving money I think you are amazing…

  3. Voahangy

Yeah! I love your videos! They really educated me on how to use coupons! I missed them all summer and I’m glad your back doing them! Just one question, though… do you always cut your printable coupons so neatly every time or was it just for the video! 🙂 LOL!

  4. Laura B.

    Great job! I love RiteAid!

  5. leah

Most stores including rite-aid have policys that specify that there will be no coupon overage given. Im just wondering how wise it is to tell people that they will be getting it. This leads the people who dont read the policys to start arguements and get upset with cashiers when they dont get the overage they had planned on:)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just think overage is always YMMV. Some cashiers will give it to you, others won’t. It’s always good to plan for it so you won’t go negative, imo!

    • Jessica K

the overage is from the +UP rewards, it’s not cash.

      • leah

the overage on this one was from using a second $1 off printable coupon. so it just took another $1 off the total. Im not knocking the deal, but i have seen it more often than not with other people using coupons around me that if you dont tell them the overage is ymmv like here.. there are a lot that throw a huge fit when its not given to them and make it hard for the rest of us. Thats all that i was stating is that is should be pointed out that using 2 $1 off q’s on a bogo for $.99 deal should be noted that not all stores will do it… and to check the policy:)

        • Sam

You’re right to an extent, Leah– and sometimes, for a split second, I think we couponers should be “greedy” and not tell another soul about the super awesome deals out there so that when I go out on Sunday mornings, there may actually be some freebies left on the shelf.
On the other hand, if there weren’t people to explain it to me last November, I wouldn’t be able to save myself, husband, two sons, and anyone who receives my donation items TONS of money, in turn allowing me to work less hours and spend lots more time with my kiddos.
As for the people who make a fuss over it, they’ll learn… and if they don’t, they’ll never last couponing and will eventually give up in frustration. Ya just got to get over it, and move on to the next deal.

We’re not cheating anyone– since the store is offering their sale, the manufacturer is offering theirs… in the end, we all win, right?!

Thanks, Collin– I’ve always been so confused by RiteAid, but have continuously stuck with it– this video really helped clear up a few things!

  6. Karin

Even thoguh I don’t have any Rite Aids near me, I enjoyed this alot! I love watching your videos! I learned alot about couponing from you. 🙂

  7. Dawn Hoke

I just knew you were in Jacksonville, but it was confirmed for me today with this post! I’m in Jacksonville also and have been here since 1993. We’ll have to go shopping sometime!!

  8. Lighthousefam

I love your videos and especially when you post deals you have found because I know I’ll find them here too! Yay J-ville! lol

  9. Amanda

    I LOVE RITEAID also!!!
    this was a great video!!
    I love your site also!!!
thanks for all the hard work you do!!!

  10. Kimber

I always LOVE your videos! They are what seriously taught me how to do awesome couponing! You are amazing and thank you for giving your time to teach others! Now when me and my husband find free stuff while we’re shopping we always say “woo-hoo” too!

Another question, which stores are the ones that actually do add the coupon overage to the rest of your purchases?

    • Paulette

Yep we say woo-hoo also, and even funnier…. my four year old says it too…it’s hilarious 🙂

  11. Michelle

They got rid of all the Rite Aids near me (I SO miss Thrifty Ice Cream!), but I still find it very helpful! I love these videos, they inspire me to be more aware of the deals I can get. Thank you for all of your hard work Collin!!

  12. Sarah

I wish Rite Aid was here in Colorado Springs. They tried one time some years ago, built stores but never opened them up. I hate just having Wags in town. ;0(

  13. Takako

I wish I could live near by Rite Aide!! Darn!! Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. You’ve been doing such an amazing works for all of hip2save readers. Thank you!! 🙂

  14. Bekah

I wish I had a better Rite Aid near me. I refuse to go anymore. They scrutinize every deal and have to lay out every coupon next to the item being purchased to see that it matches. They treat me like I’m stealing and a lot of my coupons they don’t let me use for one reason or another. Last time I went, the lady had to void the transaction and start the process over 5 times because she kept doing it wrong. I ended up in line for 30 mins and there were a ton of people waiting behind me. I was so embarrassed. I told them last time they won’t ever see me there again. I’ve tried a few times and it’s been horrible every time. It’s disappointing because I know they have really great deals.

    • Bekah

Oh but I do LOVE your videos and you have helped me so much Collin!! 🙂

    • Andrea

I have had so many problems at my Rite Aid also. I try to avoid them unless there is a great deal. I really want to do the $30 P&G deal for $10, so I am just going to get brave, and try again in hopes by some miracle, it will all go through with out any problems. =) I feel like I need someone to go with just for moral support some times !!

      • fran

Chin up! You can do it, Andrea 🙂

      • Andrea

I agree. Sometimes they make me feel like I’m doing something wrong even though I AM following the rules. Two of the Rite Aids near me are horrible. The other two are great and I love their staff. You can really tell when a store is poorly managed.

    • Wendy M

That’s the way my Walgreen’s is. I don’t shop there anymore. But my Rite Aid is my favorite store!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I know what you mean. There is a Rite Aid by me that does the same thing. You stated this very well. I stopped going to that one, too. Luckily, there is a Rite Aid on the other side of town where the cashiers are awesome and efficient and knowledgeable and friendly. I am sorry that you were made to feel this way. It isn’t right to be treated like that by coupon police. I don’t like confrontation either.

    • colleen

my rite aid used to be real nasty about coupons, too. i stopped going for a long time, but i hated missing out on the deals. so i just started using them again, and i just hold my ground. no matter how nasty they are about it, i just keep on insisting that they do the deal. i pull out the coupon policy, call the 1800-rite-aid number from the store, etc…i’ve complained to the upper management. i always win in the end! lol. i’m at the point now where i don’t care if i hold up the line for an hour! it’s the management’s fault. i just act as nice as i can wait paitently, but never back down!

  15. Michelle

I am so glad you have done another video. I love to watch them, even if I don’t shop at that particular store I learn from them. Thank you Collin for all you do.

  16. Ros

It’s good to see you back – I soooo missed your videos.
My 2 Rite Aids in NJ are very small and understaffed. I am organised but as soon as you go to check out a line appears and all the customers glare at you! I am nice and will let people go ahead if they only have an item or 2 but I can’t let everyone go ahead!
One Sunday morning a retired couple started to shout at me for holding up the line even though I had only been getting served for a minute and I had already waited for my turn!
The staff are also not coupon friendly. If anything beeps they refuse to take it – even their own Video Value coupons! Its no good even mentioning coupon policy they just get really nasty.
I was really enjoying the great deals I got there and looked forward to getting my rebate checks but I have not done them for a few months now.

    • Laurie

You do not have to take being treated in this way. I have had problems at my small Rite Aid in NJ also and if I ever have any problems I take it all the way to Corporate. It never fails that they call me back and get it resolved. The manager still just puts up with me because he hates smart shoppers but he knows to behave because it goes against his record and if they value their job they have got to change.

    • Jessica K

      they’re just jealous! 😉

      • Sam

jealous and uneducated!! I hear from lots of nasty cashiers that, “you can’t get anything free… people don’t just give things away.” But just b/c we’re getting it free doesn’t make it wrong…. everyone gets their part of it!

  17. Jean in Calif.

Thank you for bringing Follow Me Mondays back. I have learned so much from you doing them. I wonder the next time could you show the total before and then show giving all the coupons and see how the total drops and your final payment.

  18. Liz

I spoke with corporate this morning because my Rite-Aid would not take the manufacturer’s coupon from Walgreens. Like your Target coupon in your video, it is a MANUFACTURER’S coupon, but has another store’s logo on it. Corporate states that their policy is NOT to take these coupons because although they are manufacturer’s coupons, they see them as COMPETITOR’S MANUFACTURER’S COUPONS; they do not take coupon’s with any competitor’s logo on it. I guess your store does not follow corporate policy if they let you use the target manufacturer’s coupon. I love Rite-Aid too (and even worked for them in my youth) but suggested that they change this policy.

    • Sam

Hang up and call again! 🙂 With coupon questions, you’ll get a different answer per person! Or just go late at night when the cashiers are just ready to go home and don’t feel like scrutinizing… 🙂 I get tired of feeling like I have to defend my coupons, so until I make friends with a particular cashier or two at a new store, that’s always what I do!

  19. tammy-ladysavings

I loved the Video! I have one question:) I noticed that you printed your coupons in color and I was wondering why you don’t print in black & white…I’m thinking maybe so it would make it easier to see in the video. But I also thought you might be having the same trouble I have. I noticed from a video a long time ago that you use a Mac…I use a Mac too but I can’t figure out how to get it to print coupons in black & white. All the other computers in my house are not macs so I print black & white from them, but I can only print color from my mac. If Hip2Savers have Macs and know the trick to printing in black and white from a Mac…please share:)

    • Tishab0407

what kind of printer do you have? I think all printers are different. I’m a mac user and I have a canon and I figured out how to print in b/w… if you have a cannon then I can help =)

    • Rebekah

I have a mac and an HP printer and I can obviously print PDF’s and such in black and white but can never get bricks coupons or red plum or whatever to print in black and white….so if anyone has a mac and an HP printer I should would be interested in knowing 🙂 TIA

      • Tammy lady savings

        I have an HP printer.

        • Rebekah

do you know how to print in black and white from a mac?

          • tammy-ladysavings

I have no idea how to change the settings on a mac?? The PC’s in my house and the kids’ laptops are super-easy to change so I always print in black & white from them (unless they change their setting and I don’t realize it). But I just can’t figure out how to do it with a mac and HP printer? I’ve googled this subject and everything. I usually use my Mac and it’s just easier when I find something I want to print, just to hit print from it instead of running to someone else’s computer to do so. If it’s a really hot coupon then I do run around and print from every computer:) Hopefully someone out there knows how to change the setting:)

      • Sam

You have to change the properties in the control panel– or at least, that’s what I do!

      • Tara

I have a pc and i can just right click on the printer icon, select properties, printing properties, paper/quality and then select black and white.
I choose to print in color because it is less of a hassel, especially if they beep. i fill my ink at walgreens its about 9.99 every two months unless i print pictures or something crazy like that.

    • Cindy

I have the same problem with my Mac, even after I change the print settings to black and white, it still prints in color. I go through yellow ink like crazy. I’ve found cheap ink refills on eBay. Good Luck.

      • Tishab0407

next time I go to print something I’ll write it down step by step for you guys…. I haven’t fully hooked up my wireless printer so I still have to hook it up to my printer and then that’s when I’m able to change my settings for it… It took me a while to figure it out but now I just print everything in b&w unless I absolutely need color but it seems like all I do is print coupons so no color needed there =)

        • tammy-ladysavings

Thanks Tishab0407 !! I would love if you could email me at tammy @ ladysavings. com(remove spaces). This is something that has had me stumped for a long time:)

  20. Mo

Oh Collin! Thank you for my afternoon pick-me-up! I *heart* watching your videos and have MISSED them! LOL Best to you and yours!!

  21. Tasha

Perfect timing! I’m heading to Seattle later this week to visit my sister and she has a Rite Aid right around the corner from her. Living in Phoenix (the land of no Rite-Aid’s) I am super excited to go shopping there and pick up lots of crazy deals!

  22. Heidi S

Please go elsewhere with your horrible attitude and hateful words like that.

    • Heidi S

Sorry – that was for the terrible comment someone posted … (which is now gone – thank goodness!)

      • Jessica K

i hope the many wonderful comments here, overshadow the ones left by the haters!

  23. stephanie

i love watching your videos!! i am newer to the whole couponing thing but after watchin videos i learned a bunch and ive saved so much. lol my husband just laughs when i come home with a huge smile on face and so excited to show him the great deals i got lol. ty a bunch

  24. Olivia Smith

I absolutely love your videos- you put so much time into them. Rite Aid is my FAVORITE store as well!!

  25. Sarah

I wish I had a Rite Aid near me. 🙁

  26. LISA

    Collin,
As always—————–YOU ROCK!! Thanks for all you do!

  27. Shebella

Collin, I love the video. I was just wondering is it out of habit that you always bend to get into the camera while filming. it always looks like you are hiding while filming. Love all of it keep up the good work.

    • Sherryl

LOL – she actually said something in one of her other videos about this! Her “camera crew” 🙂 is shorter than she is, so she always feels like she has to bend to get in view of the camera

  28. Andrea

    You’re so awesome!

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Welcome back videos! I always enjoy them because I feel like I am actually shopping with you!

    • david

wow great video i wish we had Rite Aid here in fort worth Texas oh well im hoping cvs is about the same,,keep up the awesome work

  30. kate

I loved this video.. We dont have a Rite-Aid here in Missouri where i’m at.. but still very helpful. Never knew how to use the $5 off $25 so this video was very helpful!!

  31. Craig

Collin, its always a pleasure to watch your videos! You teach the newbies and some of us long time followers new tricks too! I haven’t done much shopping at RA yet and I should since this store is the closest outta all! Just got to take time to learn more about these “UP” rewards or whatever. Loooove your videos. They are so cool. You rock! Keep up the great work as always!!!!

  32. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love Follow Me Monday’s, please keep them coming!

  33. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sooooo glad to see follow me mondays back!! I always looked forward to these every week (before your summer hiatus). There are so many good deals to be had at rite aid and I love to shop there. Were you able to use the target logo coupons in this deal? Welcome back follow me mondays!!!!

  34. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great shopping trip! I have a wonderful rite aid, and rarely have any problems with coupons there. My best trip there; when all was said and done, they said they owed ME .87 cents lol. Manager and other cashiers came over and all loved it! Of course I had to buy a pack of gum cos they cant give me money back 🙂

    p.s LOVE the earrings!

  35. Denise

I love Rite Aid too!! I went this morning and did some of the same deals…but now seeing your video I’ll be heading back for the ones I missed!! Thanks and keep up the great work!!

  36. Anna

Your my hero! I love learning all these great tips from you! thanks for sharing!

  37. Annmarie

Love the video Collin. I miss these follow me Monday videos.

I love shopping at Rite Aid better than any other drug store. I think us Hip2Savers should put together comments/ praise for Rite Aid just like we put together our complaints for Wal-Mart and you could send them to Rite Aid management to let them know how much people appreciate their awesome coupon policy, etc…. Many times complaints are heard too much and compliments are few and far between. Just a thought.

    • Ronni

That’s a really good idea…I love Rite-Aid too, they are so coupon friendly!

  38. chrissie

yea! I’m so glad you’re back with videos! i love watching all your great deals! thanks collin for all you do!

  39. Melody

Your videos are always soooooo inspiring! Thank you for doing them again! I haven’t really tried out rite aid but it looks like I might just need to do that!

  40. Camara

You are such a cutie pie. -Besos (kisses)

  41. Laura C

Holy cow, your Rite Aid is huge compared to mine! I love shopping Rite Aid, they have never given me any problem about any coupons. The only down side is that since our store is not too big, they quickly run out of the best deals and don’t tend to be able to restock it during the week – it’s definitely a case of the early bird gets the worm around me.

  42. Tresa Beardslee

Love your facial expressions, you always make me smile. Thanks Collin 😛

  43. fran

Great video, Collin! Your R.A. is huge. There were 3 R.A. stores near me. One closed a while ago, and when we went for Chinese the other day, I noticed they closed another…what the heck is going on? I wonder if the 3rd store is not far behind.

  44. Nancy

I love my Rite Aid in NJ. I just came back from there, where I did 3 transactions and ended up paying nothing (after the UP rewards I received for next time). They are very coupon friendly. Plus, very helpful in locating items. They even put many of the ‘free after rebate’ items together on an end-cap.

  45. Anabel

I love Follow me Mondays, even if I don’t have any Rite Aids in my city!

  46. tiffany

I love that you’re doing the “Follow Me Monday” videos again. This video was great!! Before RA had their Up rewards I didn’t shop there often but now I’m rockin it every week; sometimes several times a week. I can’t stand Wags for several reasons but love RA and CVS!!! This week alone I did two transactions, got 2 playtex, 6 tridents, 6 Garnier hair products, 2 Butt Pastes (on rain checks), toothbrush and toothpaste for a total oop of $.40!! Used RA and M q’s, and Up’s to pay for them. Plus, I got back more in Ups than I started out with. RA is getting better and better each week. I love their new Up rewards program!!

  47. Shelly

I really wish we had a Rite Aid. The closest one is almost 2 hours away 🙁

  48. Lisa Short

Wow! You made it very enticing to shop Rite Aid. I feel like I have finally mastered the art of CVS and Walgreens, so now I will take on a new store! yippppeee!

  49. Sheree

Thank you!!!! I love your videos and have missed them. Glad they are back.

  50. Beth

Went to Rite Aid last night and got $120 of merchandise for $11 and still have $8+UP left over!! WooHoo! I loooove Rite Aid!
