We were considering the tag jr. but it is so big and bulky that we decided on the tag. It’s shaped like a pen which helps getting them used to the feeling. You can use it for younger aged books.
I was able to get the Tag Jr – the Toy Story version – at Target last week on clearance for 50% off – $19.99. I was planning on buying this anyway for my nephew for Christmas, so 1/2 was good enough for me. I didn’t want to chance it selling out waiting for it to go any lower.
I got a purple one on clearance for $3 after coupon. But if your child is nearing three, I’d probably just go with the regular Tag. Tag Jr. is really “babyfied” and I honestly don’t know if two year olds would be interested.
Tag JR book pal is still available at target.com for $10 with free shipping. Just scored one, I have been waitingfor these to go on the clearance! (i would have taken the regular tag, as it reads tag jr books as well, but it was not available anymore)
What age is this recommended for?
The site says 4-8 years old, but I just bought it for my 3 year old!
I would say more like three to five. My son got his when he was three, and he *loved* it. He’s almost five now but has little interest in it. And I still have about six books I haven’t yet given him! Grrr!

This is available directly on the Target.com site – for FREE shipping! Then, if you use your Target redcard you save another 5% – 50 cents, but the total for me was $10.07!!

My sister-in-law found some at Target on clearance that were shaped differently for Halloween for only $10 I asked her to buy me some, but when she went back they were gone. I was hoping I would be able to find a really good deal on these! Wish I would have gone to Target.com and gotten the free shipping, but I guess I can pay the extra $5 for getting them so cheap!!
You can cancel your Amazon.com order and order from Target.com. That’s what I just did.
I want to buy this for my 3 yr old daughter. She loves reading books so she will like it. My only problem is the additional books i need to buy with this is expensive aroune 10 to 20 $ per book. Can anyone share thoughts on Vreader ? Is the Vreader and Tag comparable which one will u prefer ?

The books go on sale often for cheap, I got 4 of them when Target had their big clearance for just $2.50 ea
It is easy to get Tag books cheap, free, or even make overage (I found a Cat in the Hat on clearance at WalMart for $1 and used a $3 Q). I won’t pay more than $5 for a book, and we probably have about twenty or so by now. I don’t have Vreader but I’m seeing them on clearance a lot, which makes me think that perhaps they will be discontinuing it. Tag books go on clearance a lot, too, but that’s because they keep releasing new titles, and the stores clearance out the old ones. Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with Tag. Leapfrog won’t be discontinuing it anything soon and when your child outgrows it, you can resell it easily.
the normal price with no coupons is 13.99 at most stores, but target and toys r us especially have buy one get one sales and leapfrog.com always has coupons

Every once in a while Amazon will run deals on the books, too. I snagged the Tag last Christmas from Target for what I thought was dirt cheat at $20, and then before Christmas Amazon ran some of the books at $5.99 each. I bought 5 and got free shipping. My is 4 and loves the Tag. It was money well spent.

The books can be really inexpensive when you watch for them to go on sale and on clearance as there are coupons on them often. I just got 5 books for free using a coupon and paid $.99 for a more to go with the TAG and TAG Jr. I bought on clearance and coupons earlier in the year.

We have bought several on clearance because we have so many books…and solved our having to reload when we had more than 10 books…(We found so many books on sale and now have nearly all of them)
We put color stickers from the office supply store on each book and then the coordinating color on the reader. I solved having to reload the readers all the time.
Red-Blue-Yellow and we keep them in a Plastic Box for organization.
We have done this with not only the TAG but the TAG Jr. books.

I am sooooo sad I missed this! 🙁 Got the Tag system for my daughter for Christmas last year and within a month, she was reading on her own. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the tag. I wanted to get some for the K and 1st grade teachers in our building from the PTO. Guess I’ll keep watching the deals… I was able to snag it for $10 at Kohls last year.

The books focus on the different vowel sounds. II don’t remember what i paid last year but I know it went on a pretty good sale. I liked them so much though, that I would even pay the listed price.

I got the Tag Junior for my twins last year for Christmas. We opened one and never opened the other one. They didn’t play with it much. They love to be read too but didn’t really like to do the Tag on their own. I didn’t like the fact you could only download 4 books at one time but after reading the reviews on this I decided to get it for my twins this year. Thanks for the deal Collin! I got a Pink Tag reader for $10 at Kmart 2 days ago. It was on clearance for $15 and I had a $5 coupon. The coupon came with the free book we got for registering a toy on the leapfrog site. Also, if you missed the Amazon deal….keep an eye on clearance…my kmart had a newer Tag (3rd edition) that is shaped different and looks different then the ones that are out now. It was more green and clear looking plastic instead of green and white. HTH!
