Hip’s 5 Holiday Traveling Tips:

(1.) Make sure your carry on is filled with Advil, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, a stress ball, a change of clothes, snacks… and definitely a hair brush (unless you want to have the hairdo above).

(2.) Do NOT plan to travel a few weeks after your spouse has surgery.

(3.) Immediately check Airport map for Starbucks. Caffeine is essential to your survival.

(4.) Make sure to double up the barf bag. They are very thin.

(5.) Smooth Move Tea… lighten your load and I’m not talking about your baggage! 😉

If you couldn’t tell from my tips above, I’ve had such a wonderful holiday traveling experience so far! 🙂 Alright, so yes, there is a little bit of sarcasm there. We left yesterday to head to Boise for Thanksgiving… well, we just arrived a few hours ago and were supposed to be there last night. There was a delay on our first flight, we missed the second flight, stayed in a hotel with no luggage, woke up a few hours later looking oh so lovely and then got on our final plane to Boise. Definitely an interesting experience… especially with 3 kiddos in tow and a hubby who recently had surgery on his calf.

*NOTE: The Walgreens deals will be up shortly… I posted them earlier and had to quickly remove the post. I actually had posted the deals with all the Walgreens coupons from the November coupon booklet– which won’t be valid tomorrow. Oops!!

  16. Erin S

After all that experience, and you’re still up posting deals for us!!! You’re amazing Collin!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  17. Mae

If neither you nor your kids were forced to go through the naked body scanners and weren’t subjected to the sexual-assault-groping “enhanced pat-down” then I’d say you had a pretty good trip, in spite of the mishaps! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Bonnie

LOL Too funny! I hope that you’ve never had this experience!

  18. Jill

Have a great time in Boise! It’s snowing over most of Idaho – are you getting snow there? Enjoy the snow while you can, since you won’t get much in North Carolina!

  19. Deb

Oh, Collin, I can so totally relate to this! We had a very similar experience last December when we travelled from Omaha to Tampa for Christmas. It was the first and only time I will ever choose to fly Delta/Northwest! We also spent an unexpected night in a hotel with three kids, and didn’t get there until 11 pm and had to get up at 4 am for the 6 am flight they rebooked us on. Ugh! Enjoy the rest of your trip, and maybe next time we’ll pass you on the highway 🙂

  20. Barbie

    Collin-
LOVE the picture!! If only I would still look that cute having been through ALL that, lol!!
Hope you get some rest soon!

  21. Kristin

You poor thing!!! I do respect the fact that you can laugh about it a little now 🙂 Keep your spirits up!

  22. luckygirl

What are you talking about Collin – your hairdo is super sexy!! If only we all could look that good! I’m actually kinda jealous, we don’t have any family to visit, wish I had a grandmother/parents over the hill and through the woods to visit, ours have all passed on. But traveling with 3 kiddos can be tricky, lol! 😉 Hope you get some good RR and have super fun holiday!

  23. shirley

Collin, I am also from N.C. I totally understand the traveling with kids, But, try driving 8 hrs with kids and a hubby that HATES to stop for anything. You know what I mean. I do want to wish u and your family a very happy Thanksgiving and to say u are AMAZING. How do u do all u do? Good luck on your way home. Hope your hubby is better. We send all our love…

  24. Denise G.

At least you can write about it and give us useful tips! We all enjoy your sense of humor and the fact that you “put yourself out there” for us to see no matter what. Happy Thanksgiving!

  25. shirley

Oh, I forgot, u are naturally beautiful. It takes me HOURS to look that good. Don’t worry.

  26. Jana

Aww! Sorry to hear that your traveling hasn’t been so great. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and your trip home will be much better. 🙂 Your such a trooper 🙂
And happy birthday to your little girl– didn’t you say it was tomorrow??? I hope you take the day off – you definitely deserve it. Thanks for all you do. And hope your hubby is feeling better soon.

  27. Staci

Hey this happened to the hubby and I this week too. We had everything packed in out carry on but they made us gate check it on the first leg because the plane was full. The plane was late and we missed the second leg and had absolutely nothing with us but a book and some gum. It was super fun! They gave us an overnight bag with a little tiny toothbrush and a tshirt.

  28. Jenny

Yuck sounds no good. But you look awesome. The lighting and the hair actually remind me of the 80’s! Rock it sista.

  29. Rhonda

Maybe just a dab too much DIPPIDY DOO Dear. 😉 Your precious!!! Too cute!!

  30. Mary Beth

Why don’t you take the night off? We promise we won’t fire you!!!

  31. Kathryn

I used to live about an hour outside of Boise, and EVERY trip back always has somthing bad happen!! good luck!

  32. rblondish

Collin you always look cute. Enjoy the rest of your vacation and your family time. We will be here when you get back……and rested. Happy Thanksgiving to Collin and fellow hip2savers.

  33. Angela

Ugh! I hope your vacation gets better! We just moved from Boise. What a great place. Have a great (stress free) stay!

  34. Nicole

Hip2Save was just on our NEWS 8 on TV in West Michigan as one of the best sites to save money!!!

  35. couponlovingmommy

You always look great. Glad you’re getting through this with a sense of humor! 🙂

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Happens to the best of us. I am sending a care pkg to my BIL who is in afgan and would like some suggestions of what to sent to wounded soldiers. I figure your readers might have some great ideas. THanks so much for all you do! PS I love Boise but usually we only visited there in the summer!

    • Megan

Sudoku and Crossword puzzle books are always good!

  37. Rachel

Thank you for thinking of us on your vacation. Have fun and enjoy your family time! Love all that you do for us:)

  38. Kate M

I say it’s time for a Holiday drink (or two!)
My suggestion: The kids are with the family; the hubby can get waited on by relatives…..it’s time you sneak into the bathroom, LOCK THE DOOR, draw a bubble bath and RELAX!!
    Have a wonderful vacation!

  39. cindy

know how you feel. Yesterday my son and husband were on two seperate flights from a business trip in North Dakota. Would you believe it , they both had problems. My son sat in a broke down delta plane in minneapolis for an hour so when they finally got off the ground he missed his connecting flight in st. louis. No other flights available, so he just decided to rent a car to get the rest of the way home. My husbands flight seemed uneventful until he got to St. Louis where his connecting flight told him his plane was overloaded in weight so he couldn’t get on. Of course no other flights availabe so he ended up taking a shuttle 3 hours home. Needless to say, they both were exhausted by the time they got home 5 hours late.

  40. Sasha

Hope your trip improves. Your posts are a blessing to me and many in my family. Happy Thanksgiving!

  41. Suzy

Bless your heart. I was in the same position minus the husband last week flying from NY to UT with kids. All I can say is enjoy your family and I hope your flights are much smoother going home.

  42. Carol K

You have a little “Something about Mary” going on in the back there!
    You are such a sweetie!
    Hope thing get better!

  43. TeresaB

Awww, you poor thing! I hope that the rest of your trip goes smoother then the first part. Get some rest and have some fun..tomorrow.

  44. Chris

My experience has been, when going through major East Coast airports, that bringing even a small tube of toothpaste an lotion causes problems with getting through security.

  45. Bridgette

I hope I run into you while you are in Boise!!! It would be like a celebrity sighting 🙂

  46. carol

Collin you’re so funny – I love the tips, especially the Smooth Move one. Have a great Thanksgiving.

  47. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Keep making those memories! One day you can say, “remember that trip we took for Thanksgiving….”. I guess we should all run around with combs in our back pockets like the guys used to do in the movie Grease! Happy Thanksgiving!! Enjoy your family.

  48. Megan

Awww.. At least you didn’t get pee’d on! I once waited on a plane with my then 1 yr old while the bathroom with the ONLY changing table was being used by a teenager to apply makeup for 10 minutes! While waiting.. my daughters diaper leaked and I had pee ALLLL over me! I had to take my shirt off and wear my Fleece when we disembarked in Maui with 90 degree weather.. lol. HOWEVER I have learned to always carry on an extra shirt.. life is just one huge learning experience isn’t it!? lol Wishing you and yours the best Thanksgiving ever!! Just think.. so many people are thankful for you everyday!

  49. Sophie

You’ll have to let us know of any super BF deals you find locally since I am assuming you will still be in Boise on Friday! I am planning to go shopping for my first time this year but still haven’t decided where to go!

  50. tiffany

Oh honey, you still look cute as a button. Messy hair and all. Hope your taking a well deserved relaxing long hot bath and sleep well. Enjoy your time with your family.
