Wow! Hallmark just released another smokin’ HOT printable coupon! Just go here to print a $5 off your purchase of $5 or more coupon to use at Hallmark Gold Crown! This coupon is valid through December 5th and should easily make for FREE greeting cards and more!

Side note, I was a bit Leary of the origin of this coupon… But Couponing to Disney reassured me that a PR rep directly from Hallmark emailed her with the link, so it does in fact appear to be legit.

NEW UPDATE: The PR rep from Hallmark just emailed me with the coupon link too! 🙂

Also, Hallmark is back with this fun offer again! The first 5 shoppers to get to their local Hallmark Gold Crown store and say the magic phrase “Are you a friend of Kromdar the Magnificent?” tomorrow, December 3rd, will each receive a FREE Freaky Pet. Check out the Hallmark Facebook page for more information.

…AND I was actually surprised to receive many emails (see below) from readers when this free promo was available back in October and November who were actually able to score the FREE Freaky Pet, so it is definitely worth a shot!

Got TWO free freaky pets (or whatever their called) at Hallmark this morning. We were the only people in the store and both of my boys (ages 2 and 4) said the magic words.

*****************************************

I wanted to let you know that I was able to score 2 Freaky Pets yesterday (and my son thinks I’m an awesome mommy today 🙂 ) I had it set in my mind that I was going to go by Hallmark early on Friday to get one, but of course I got busy and forgot until 3:30 in the afternoon. Anyways I went by at 3:30 and I was only the 3rd person to get one! I needed to do some shopping at the mall (to go get the great deal at Bath & Body Works that you posted about…more Christmas presents off my list!) and a few other places after that, but I decided on my way home at 8pm I would stop back by just to see if I could get another. The same two ladies were still working so I asked if they had given all of them away yet, one said “I don’t know, what is the secret phrase” 🙂 so I told her and she said “Ok, go get you another” no one else had come in after me to get one. So I was number 3 & 4, meaning at 8pm they still had one more to give away! I think that was the highlight of my coupon shopping all day 🙂 I can’t believe that so few people know about this promo?

(Thanks, One Momma Saving Money!)

Yay. I just used my $5 off coupon and got two rolls of wrapping paper and Hanukah stickers and paid a total of 18cents!
    Too bad I can’t go back tomorrow…

  2. Gina

I’ve noticed several other people are getting a blank page when they print as well. As yet no one has responded. Does anyone have any ideas? I never did get the $10 coupon because of this same problem. I’m using IE. Thanks in advance.

    • Nancy

Gina, I got a blank page too but figured it was because I didn’t hit the print button inside the coupon itself. When I did that, it worked just fine and I printed 2 copies.

  3. lovinglife2005

This is a little off topic, but about Hallmark coupon so I guess not really 🙂 I have a coupon from the magazines to save $5.00 off your total purchase if anyone wants it. I don’t have a a Hallmark store close to me. Please e-mail me frugalsahm at yahoo dot com.

    • lovinglife2005

Taken, I’m glad somebody can use it 🙂

  4. Jennifer M.

I am really into getting the recordable book.

  5. melony

I went today with the $5 off coupon. They have some webkinzs on sale for 50% off so regular size are only $7. I only had to pay $2.56! Plus the lilkinz are only $4.50!! I got them last week with the $10 off coupon!

    • Momoon

Yup, I got a Webkinz too! The one I got was a turkey marked down to 75% to $9 so $4 plus tax for a toy for my daughter and a decoration for next year’s Thanksgiving, lol. 😀

  6. kelly

Anyone know if the Hallmark Paper Store is the same as a Gold Crown store? My hallmark card works at both, but I think they act as separate companies? Just wondering if the stuffed animal freebie is at the Paper Store……

  7. Crissy

Is the freaky saying something only kids are supposed to do? I could probably run by hallmark tomorrow, but I won’t have my son with me. He’s also only 2 & I don’t think he could or would say the phrase anyway.

    • Alea

You can say it – I took my 8 month old with me to the store last month to get one for my 7 year old. I didn’t have any problems.

  8. Sarah H.

Before you head to your Hallmark store, call first to see if they will be participating in the promotion. I went last month with my little girl — she said the words — and the people looked at her like she was nuts. I then explained about the promotion, and they said they had never heard of it. In fact, the staff (including the manager) accused us of trying to commit fraud (yes, a mom and an 8-year-old girl — over a stuffed toy). I called and e-mailed Hallmark to tell them about this, but no response, and certainly no apology was made. I understand that the outlet has to participate, but they shouldn’t have accused us of criminal behavior!

      • Sarah H.

Thanks for the link — what a time saver! Nothing in my area, unfortunately!

      • andrea

I wish I had read this before I took my son to the store by me. I had him ask the question and they both looked at me and said huh?? But they were at least nice about it and told him he was cute.

    • Momoon

Wow! Who would have thought people working at a Hallmark store can have that kind of attitude?!?!??! Seriously, I can’t believe they’re employed by Hallmark, a store that I’ve always found to have such sweet people working. I’m so sorry you and your daughter had to be treated in such a mean manner. I hope corporate responds. If they don’t my opinion of the store is not quite the same. 🙁

    • Aleisha

We got funny looks too, but when we explained it was on facebook, they said it was just something done at corporate stores, which theirs wasn’t. They even apologized for wasting our time! Then we went to another store where they did have it and the cashier was as excited as my 4 year old!

      • Selene

The cashier at the store I went to had NO idea what I was talking about, but she was nice enough to call another Hallmark store and got the instructions from the cashier from the other store. So I was able to get mine!

  9. S

Just a quick FYI – The $10/10 coupon was never intended to be shared. It was only emailed to specific consumers that were identified as new or expectant mothers. The reason it was pulled is because someone shared it with blogging websites and then a photoshopped version that did not have a name or email address was posted for people to print out as many times as they wanted. The coupon was intended to be used 1 time only and only by the consumer that it was emailed to. The $5/$5 coupon gives you 2 chances to print it out but it is also only intended to be used 1 time per consumer.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

yes well I did get it in an e-mail and i am an expectant mother AND i was still accused of coupon fraud by a very rude store manager in front of a bunch of other customers because corporate sent out an e-mail.

Funny though, the other customers walking out with me were like “I can’t believe she was sooo rude.” talking of course of the store manager.

I’ll be going to another Hallmark for any other purchase EVER.

      • Sarah H.

I know how you feel! I used to spend a couple of hundred dollars on ornaments each year there — will never buy there again!

  10. Jessica S.

My $5 off and $10 off both printed out the very same way. They both had a limit of two prints. They both looked identical except for the amount and the fact the $10 off one had my name and email address on it. I was not able to print out unlimited coupons of either one.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That is so wierd because I’ve been able to print both coupons as many times as I’ve tried which is alot. I wonder why some can’t. To be honest I wish they would fix it so I wouldn’t have the temptation, but I printed 10 so far and I plan to use them all.

      • Alea

That’s exactly why these promotions get pulled all the time. Just because you can do something doesn’t make it right. Did you read the link someone posted that a lot of the Hallmark stores do not get money back and it’s a loss for them. If everyone did the same and got $50 worth of “free” stuff – we would be seeing a lot more Hallmark stores closing their doors. I have seen way too many “smaller” stores close in the past few years. Our economy is still hurting and stores closing hurt all of us. I don’t think it’s right to go overboard with these promotions. I think Hallmark is pretty generous already to offer us the magazine coupons and even one printable one.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It’s not a loss. I called corporate after the store manager was so rude to me and tried to tell me they don’t get reimbursed.

Corporate said of course they do AND if you look at the coupon where it says retailer – send to hallmark fulfillment center.

          • Alea

A lot of stores are reporting it’s a loss and it hurts their sales volume (stores with low sales volume get closed) – if the coupon is going to Hallmark Fulfillment Center – that’s corporate. If everyone printed as many coupons as possible and just got their “free” items without spending more in the store than Hallmark would take a huge hit and it would hurt the store. The reason why stores like Kohls do so well with their dollars off coupons is because the majority of their customers come in there to redeem their coupon and spend wayyyyyy more than the coupon.

It is a Hallmark coupon. Hallmark is paying to get those items from the manufacturers – if they aren’t getting people buying other products, it is a lost for Hallmark. They aren’t getting money from anyone else.

  11. maria

WOW the hallmark near me ROCKS!- I got over $70 of stuff for 5 bucks! I used many coupons and they werent even ready til the 3rd but they were fine with it- they had TONS of those freaky toys- and they didnt even know about the promotion and laughed when i said that phrase- lol – Im going to donate mine to toys for tots- I scored a scarf, slipper socks, 2 wine glasses,a sock monkey ornament,a music box.that toy (those are priced at 14.95!) and I think thats it- My mother in law is DONE for christmas YAY!

    • Priscilla

were you able to stack the $5off coupons?

  12. ctews4ep

We went @ 8 p.m. tonight, I said the phrase and the saleslady said, “Oh! I heard about this promotion!” Apparently I was the first one to ever to say it (it’s a relatively new Hallmark). We got our Freaky Pet, used the $10 off coupon and overall had a very successful shopping trip! Thanks!

  13. Pam

Our Local Store does NOT participate……too bad!

  14. Melissa B.

Thanks for sharing. I went in and got my husband an ornament with his favorite football team on it. It was $5.95 so I only paid 95cents plus tax! I noticed they had some little bear shaped chocolates for 49 cents so if anyone needs a filler item that would work out nicely.

  15. Lilli

Can you use more than one $5 coupon?

  16. audrey

WEll STINK! none of the Hallmarks in my area participate and i am not going to drive to the next city over to participate pooh my 4 yro is home today from preschool. Glad I did not tell her about it lol Guess Ill just get some wrapping paper instead woot woot!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The link that shows which stores participate may be wrong. The store by my house wasn’t on the list however when I went to the store today to get another kung zhu pet( My 3rd this week!!) I asked them and they laughed and gave me one. So the did participate – glad I asked. Just an FYI for those who think your store doesn’t have freaky pets – they just might and they just might be doing the promo. Good luck!

Also – another FYI – check your reciepts, I’ve gotten (4) $2 survery’s so far – you can use them with the $10 or $5 coupons and get more free stuff!

  17. Crystal

I tried to print the five dollar coupon, and I clicked on the actual coupon to print it like you are supposed to and it only printed a header and footer with no coupon in between.

  18. flipfloppingmamma

Our local hallmark thought I was nuts when I brought in the $5 coupon from the magazines. She looked at it like she had NEVER seen it before. Had to go and talk to a manager and then they decided to take it ‘even though they would probably get in trouble’. It was so irratating. I tried to tell her they were in EVERY major magazine out there. They didn’t care.

  19. Jennifer C

Yay! I went to two different Hallmark’s today and was able to get 2 Freaky Pets!

  20. Jamie M

So I walked into my local Halmark store to say the magic phrase… And they had no clue what I was talking about. After a few phone calls, they still had no idea, so I ended up buying my kids something since I promised them an animal if they said the phrase… Gee thanks Hallmark…

  21. Tina

Went to a local Hallmark this morning — hours showed it opened at 10:00 a.m. — got there at 9:00 a.m. — so waited outside with my mom until 10:00 (so we could both get one), went in and said the phrase, and she said there was only one left…????? Hmm….considering we were the first ones in there, I questioned that and she said there were 4 women waiting for the doors to open….again, my mom and I were the first ones in……..she said they opened at 9! Sounds to me like four friends of the worker got some free freaky pets! That’s the only bad thing about things like this…..oh well, I got one and gave it to my mom to give to one of her grandchildren. Thanks, Colin, for everything you do! 🙂

  22. Melissa

I was able to get a pet today along with 5 gift bags and a roll of tape for only $1.30!!! WooHoo!

  23. Katlyn

I called and check before I went to my local Hallmark.

  24. kelly

Just went to two hallmarks in my area and got 2 pets – first time for both stores that anyone has used this in the several months they’ve been doing it! This does not work at the paper store in case anyone was wondering…..

  25. Pam

Just got back from my local Hallmark store with my free freaky pet! They had not heard about it, and It took a manager and 2 employees to find the paperwork in their book, but they were very nice to me about the whole thing. I had no idea these toys cost $14.99!! I figured it would be a $5 toy at the most. Wow! I think I might go back later and see if they have any left. Great toys for tots giveaway!

  26. elizabeth

My Hallmark is great! My 3 year old told the lady the phrase for the freaky pet and she walked him over and let him pick one! She said that she’s pretty sure that hallmark isn’t going to do this giveway anymore:(

  27. Stina

The Hallmark Goldcrown Store in Osage Beach, Missouri was not participating in the free freaky pet give away, but my $5 off coupon worked great!

  28. Alyssa

We got ours! My son is so happy!

  29. Serena

We went to the mall this morning, and got a new ornament for my son with the $5 coupon, and a freaky pet for each of my kiddos (I got my 5 year old to say the phrase for him, and I said it for my 2 year old) Thanks so much for announcing this promotion! My kids are thrilled with their new toys!

Did anyone else have to pay the sales tax on their free freaky pet? I ended up paying $0.90 for each of them – I didn’t mind – less than a dollar for each of them was a super deal!

    • Kim

Yes Serena, I had to pay tax at one store, the other I did not? not sure why.

  30. Sara L

Darn! My hubby went early with our two boys, first in the store…but they weren’t participating in the give away and thought he was crazy!!!! Afterwards, he said to me “you owe me big!” ahhh!

  31. Kim

I went in with my kids this morning and got freakty pets. We went to two hallmark stores and got four pets in all. Then, my daughter took two into school today (pm kinder) to give to Toys for Tots. She and her brother kept one each and we donated the other two. I thought that was a nice way to “use them”.

So one Hallmark knew right away what the phrase meant, the other store bumbled around, gave me crazy looks (FREE?) and then had to go in the back forever and ultimately gave them to me. At the first store, I did have to pay tax, the second I didn’t. Also, their wrapping paper is buy one (4.99) get one for .99 So I used my $5/$5 on that, two roles of paper and 4 freaky pets for $2.37!! Not bad 🙂 Thank you!

    • Julie S.

I wasn’t able to use the coupon on wrapping paper because “it’s already discounted when you buy the second roll.”

  32. guest

I got a freaky pet but had to go to a corporate location – not a privately owned Hallmark.
Thanks so much for the tip – and yes I paid sales tax/

  33. Jennie

I went to my local Hallmark and was the second one to get a free pet. I also had my two coupons and got altogether the free pet worth $14.95 a $12.95 ornament and two rolls of wrapping paper, they had a sale of buy one at $4.99 and get second one for $.99. I used both my $5 coupon and my $10 coupon (two transactions) and only paid $5 out of pocket. So about $33 worth for $5. Wonderful!

  34. Kim

Well, I just got back from one, and the one I went to doesn’t have any freaky pets. The cashier there was pretty nice and I had no issues with 1 of the 5/5 coupons. However, the second cashier gave me a bit of some trouble, but she pushed it through since the first cashier said it would work. She was slightly antagonistic, saying that I had no color on my print and a bit accusatory (I have a black and white laser printer 🙁 ) A bit stressful on the purchases due to that, but I’ll try later on my lunch to see if I can get a freaky pet for my little cousin.

  35. Holly

I got up at the crack of dawn, first one’s in the store, the lady looked at me like we were crazy. She went around the store, asking all the associates if they knew what I was talking about… “what’s a freaky pet? Who’s Kromdar?” Atleast I got two rolls of wrapping paper for $ .98, THAT was really great!

  36. Maddie

Thank goodness I called before I left work early to get one of the freaky pets. They were all gone. While it is nice that some are being given to charity, I think with such a limited supply at just a handful of stores it should be one per family. And I have three kids…so I know it isn’t always fair. This may not be a popular opinion, but I don’t think it is fair that one ‘family’ got 4 of 5 at one of the stores I called.

    • Selene

I agree partially. I have no problem if a mother/father gets one for each of her kid (I mean, otherwise how do you decide which kid gets it? I only have one daughter so I have no idea), but I definitely don’t think it is right to get more and then donate them away. If it’s not for you, don’t get it. Let the next family enjoy them.

  37. zimm2go

Got my freaky pet this morning. I got there about 3 mins after they opened & I was the 2nd one to get this, a guy came in while I was shopping to get the 3rd. I was able to snag some body lotion, a book light & a chocolate bar on top of my pet, used my $10 coupon & paid $3.

  38. Erin

Didn’t really care about the Freaky Pet, but I was in the store, so I asked about it. The girl seemed to know what I was talking about, and said I was the first one to ask about them–then told me they were $14.99. I asked if they were free with the magic phrase, and she hadn’t heard but checked with another cashier, who asked if I knew the phrase. I was the first one who *ever* did this promotion–even though it was 1 pm and the store had run the promotion twice before. I had to pay .75 tax, though, so I’m not entirely sure it’s worth it for another stuffed animal that’s going to collect dust.

    • Sara L

Please give it to someone who will LOVE it!!!!!! Needy children are everywhere!!!!

    • christen

      not worth 75 cents? wow.

    • Selene

You could have told the cashier to “forget about it” so it can be given to the next family.

  39. Lisa

Got one! And as tomorrow is my daughter’s birthday, it was great timing. I went about an hour after they opened and no one had claimed any. I also used my $5 and $10 off printables, so I had a great time. Thanks for the info – I was planning to be in Hallmark today anyway.

  40. Teri Haupt

I was very disappointed. I went to my local Hallmark told the cashier ther secret phrase and she thought I was crazy. I inquired about the freaky pet and she had no idea. The other clerk at least knew about it, but told me they did not receive the freaky pets. I also used my $5 off coupon on a cute necklace for my Daughter for a stocking stuffer. All the necklaces I was looking at were 7.99. The one I picked out rang up at 12.99. It was the only style out of about 7 different styles that was more $. It was also the only one that was not priced!!! Right now, I am not a big fan of Hallmark.

  41. Laura C

The girls at the store this morning vaguely had heard of the freaky pets thing, but said I was the first one to ever do it! They had to make a phone call to check how to ring it up, but they didn’t give me a hard time about it at all. I told them I’d have to tell my friends – so my husband is going to stop there on the way home from work 🙂

Thank you to those that put the link to the website. I confirmed after the fact that the mall store I went to had been participating, but thankfully kept me from stopping in at the other local store later today. While this other store takes the coupons, they are pretty grouchy about it, and no way would I want to deal with them and the magic phrase if they were at all questionable about participating!

  42. Kim W.

We went in at noon CST and were only the second ones to get one that day (Kansas City area). Also used $10 to pick up nine cards (.99 each). Paid $2.17 for tax on Freaky Pet and cards. Thanks, Colin!

  43. rebekah hinojosa

Had a fun morning scoring two freaky pets! Thanks Hallmark!

  44. Rebaby

I got one. I showed up at 9:40a (opened at 9:30a). The staff were a little frazzled at the phrase, but they recovered and showed me where they were at. Several people came in while I was there, but nobody else said the phrase. 2 Christmas wrapping & freaky pet for $2.75. nice!

  45. frannie

My store never heard of giving away the pets and would not take my coupon because I didn’t have a crowns reward card. I was disappointed.

    • Sara L

Anyone else have to show a crown card? I don’t have one either.

  46. Dceeeee

Bummer….My printer is weird…sometimes works…sometimes not. First attempt didn’t print…second attempt got me the message, “You already received you maximum allowed…(which must be none) Why don’t they just use a different code for each computer so you can only USE it once? GRRR

  47. Donna

I’m so excited..was able to score a freaky pet for my kiddo. I was person #5, this was around 2:30 pm. What a fun freebie! You don’t have to be a Gold Crown member, but I signed up today to become one. Thank you Collin!

  48. Shelley D.

I went to our local Hallmark, and said that phrase,,,,and the salesperson looked at me like I had twelve heads!!! I had the sales ladies hysterically laughing about this special phrase one has to say to receive a freebie!!! Needless to say, I made their day but received no freebie since they had never heard of Krombar the Magnificent!!! It made our days!!!!
