Walmart GLADLY Accepts Internet Coupons?!
Have you had issues trying to use internet printable coupons at Walmart? I cannot believe the amount of emails I receive from readers on a weekly basis regarding coupon issues at Walmart. From the cashier telling you that Wamart does not accept internet printable coupons to the cashier stating you can only purchase what’s pictured on the coupon and the list goes on…
With that being said, check out the picture below:

Notice anything? 😀
(Thanks for the pic, Mitchell!)
Thats awesome.
Although I think I’m more amazed at the 13 item total for $3.47 LOL
LOL!….we’ve had only one cashier give us a hard time at Walmart, she wasn’t happy about taking our internet coupons, but did anyway when I didn’t back down. Other than her, no problems with any other cashiers, so we just avoid her when we can.
That’s great!!! It’s a tiny bit ironic that you don’t get the receipt with that claim on it until after you’ve dealt with the coupon/cashier issues – LOL! Definitely worth keeping one old receipt in the coupon binder just to be able to whip it out on future trips!
It is amazing what Wal-mart cashiers tell people. The other day they told me I couldn’t use the coupons out of the All You magazine because they were fraudulent. I then informed her that Wal-mart must be selling fraudulent coupons since they sell the All You magazine, then I asked for the store manager. I got the front end manager, she was more than helpful and told me not to hesitate to call her again if I had problems with coupons!
You go girl. I LOVE that you told them they were selling fraudulent coupons 🙂
This happened to me at another store, once. I called for the manager, and politely informed him that his cashier just accused me of trying to use a fraudulent coupon; that is, that I was being accused by HIS COMPANY of FRAUD, which is a felony. And how would they like to see me in court when I sue them?
You should have seen the white pasty look on his face and let me tell you, they were apologizing right and left, including giving me a gift card.
It is NOT a matter to take lightly. Being accused of FRAUD is a VERY serious thing. It is a felony. If you don’t think so, try actually using coupons fraudulently (such as those free coupons that are illegaly printed up) and see what happens to you.
That is especially funny since Walmart is the only store that sells All You magazine!
Hahahahahahaha. Ohhhhhh, Walmart, you silly, silly, little company.
LOL! 😀
Well, that is strange! They never accept my coupons, I just had a free Energizer rechargable battery coupon and they told me it was fake. It really frustrates me that they can accuse people of this!!
Ugh, Target did that to me, because it wouldn’t scan (their computer’s fault, not my fault), and the manager raised her voice to me. I was SO mad.
–
I have had issues several times w/ B1G1 coupons!!! Every single time I try to use them, they tell me that they do NOT accept any coupons w/ things for free on them! I really try to avoid Wal-Mart at this point. And that is sad b/c that is pretty much the only store where I live other than K-Mart. Target is 40 minutes away 🙁
I have also had problems with bogo or free coupons, but at Kroger. I was told there is a new policy that they will no longer accept ANY internet coupons with the word FREE on them. Seriously. The next time I shopped I had a bogo and it worked just fine! Went through the U-Scan that time….hahaha! U Scan still accepts ’em, it’s those pesky humans who do not!
I ALWAYS use the u-scan…that has virtually eliminated all of my coupon troubles at Kroger! 🙂 If it beeps, I show them my item and coupon and they take care of it for me. 🙂
At my Kroger, at the U-Scan you have to hand the cashier all of your coupons. I didn’t always though, I preferred it then. Still love my Kroger the best of all of my grocery stores though!
what if the item is for a “fat free” item? haha
hahaha your comment made me smile! 🙂
HahaHAAAA! I am SO using that next time they pull the no free coups with me! Good one! lol
Tried to use my $3.00 off Zantac last week at Walmart, they would not accept it, told me they only accept real coupons. Crazy:)
I had a cashier give me a hard time on one silly coupon. She kept claiming that it was a Target coupon even though it clearly said manufacturers. I made her get the manager and was sweet as pie about it. She was not very happy!
I ‘ve had the same problem before from the coupons I get from Kroger that are manufacturers coupons. After almost losing it because one cashier told me she couldn’t take it b/c it said “Kroger” at the bottom…even though she knew it was a manufacturers coupon, I took the coupon and tore the bottom off of it where the Kroger logo was and handed it back to her…she took it! NO JOKE!!!! Needless to say, I avoid her line… 🙂
HAHA! That is really funny although I’m sure it wasn’t at the time. I often wonder if I should cut the part that says Kroger off the coupon, but it usually isn’t an issue.
Guess I’m lucky – I’ve never had a problem at my Walmart, so I guess they DO gladly accept internet coupons here. The only problem I see is they have to use the scanning gun for each coupon and then hit a button after every scan. So it’s slow-going and I’d better not overwhelm them with too many coupons at a time unless I want to hold up the line forever.
That’s great!! I haven’t ever had issues, but I guess I got lucky on the location near me. I hear people say they have issues, so I’m glad to know that it should not be a problem anymore!
I avoid walmart now too! Its not worth the hassle and the way the cashiers belittle you and make you feel bad. I figure i can spend my money at a small company who doesn’t treat me unfairly
I have a black and white laser printer and when I tried to use Internet coupons the cashier would not accept them, saying they were “copies.” Never tried to use them there again and therefore almost never shop at Walmart anymore.
Here’s the link to the Walmart Coupon Policy:
https://walmartstores.com/7655.aspx
I’ve printed a copy and keep it in my coupon holder.
thanks for the link. i am a walmart associate and an avid couponer. i have asked several different cashiers and customer service managers about the use of internet coupons and received as many different answers, so obviously this is where the problem lies — no one really knows. i have also been told that they only accept free and bogo cpns if there is a limit amount on the cpn. i believe i will be taking my copy of the policy to work and giving it to the front end assistant mgr to give to her cashiers. according to HO the coupons are not supposed to be adjusted for pricing (eg: $1 cpn for a $.97 item) as the company reimburses the full amount of the cpn regardless.
I was on the Wal Mart website the other day and was going to send Collin an email, but will just post here. Anyway I was under the offers, then coupons, and samples section, then at the bottom somewhere it said “corporate coupon policy”. I too hate Wal Mart for many reasons, but it stated they take manf. coupons, internet printables, BOGO, Free item coupons as well as long as they have expiration date, etc…… May be worth printing out and carrying a copy with you.. HTH someone
I had a problem yesterday at Walmart using internet coupons. The cashier walked away from the register for a few minutes to show them to a superior & allowed some & not others. When I asked why she stated on the upper right hand corner that has the expiration date, some coupons have yellow dots in the background & others do not. They would only take the coupons that had the yellow dotted background. I wasn’t going to argue as there was a long line behind me but I had never noticed this before & don’t know why some have this & not others. The coupons were either from coupons.com or smartsource or both.Has anyone else heard of this? After Walmart I went to my grocery store & used the coupons with no problem.
That happened to my husband once at CVS. We had run out of yellow ink so the dots weren’t there. My husband was told that it was a photocopy since there were no dots. Lesson learned— I had never even noticed the dots before.
This is exactly why I always take in walmart.com’s coupon policy with me. As soon as they say they don’t accept them, I pull it out. No problem’s so far … You can find it here: https://walmartstores.com/7655.aspx (I keep it in my glove compartment in the car)
Very Funny! I just looked at my receipt from last week and it said the same thing! Although I don’t have an issue at my Walmart. They may verify it’s in my cart, but they take it.
I have 4 Walmarts within a 10 mile radius of my house. 3 refused to take internet coupons. The other day I got an email from Walmart for some awesome printable coupons from their site! WTH? How can you give me coupons to print but your stores won’t accept them? So I emailed corporate and I said “Oh thank you so much for the lovely printable coupons! Since yours store here in Indianapolis area refuse to take them I will be taking them to another store such as Meijer or Kroger to use them!” and didn’t expect an answer. Within 2 hours I had an email from corporate with profuse apologies and demanding to know addresses and telephone numbers of the stores that refused my printed coupons. After sending that I have had a call from each store manager apologizing and assuring me this was not correct and that they are to take my coupons. I haven’t tried it yet what with the holidays and being busy but we will see! It was a nice deal though since I didn’t expect an answer or concern at all from the big giant!
Good for you! That’s an awesome story! 😀
Same thing happened to me. Posted on their FB page, received immediate reply, then phone call from manager. This was over the $5/5 cheese coupons from Kraft. Great apologies, however still same old problems when I try using internet coupons at Walmart. I try and go to Target for my items since I have several cashiers who force all my coupons thru when they beep. Love my Target.
Walmart, Target and Walgreens are on my list of least friendly couponing stores. Since we own a small business, I tend to avoid Walmart and shop at local grocery stores. One other thing that really bothers me about Walmart is their price matching policy which is pointless. The things that they say they are cheaper on are not everyday items that my Harris Teeter, Bi-Lo or Bloom have for much cheaper and they don’t even have as good of a selection as the regular stores! You need to bring in a printed ad of items that they will price match but since the grocery stores just naturally have things cheaper (and they DOUBLE coupons!) then they don’t print it! Walmart is too big for its’ own good!
I stopped shopping at Wal*Mart about a year and a half ago in large part due to its large size (not only the individual stores but how huge the entire chain is) among other reasons and have never looked back. Shopping is so much less stressful (and cheaper thanks to couponing!) at other stores.
Yes! I had a really hard time using the $2.00 of 2 printable coupons for the Athenos yogurt. It scanned, but prompted the cashier to enter the amount. She could only enter a $1, so she had to call a manager. It was quite the fiasco for such a straightforward coupon! I did get the yogurt for free though!
This was the same coupon I had trouble with!! SHe had to override every one of them. SHe did take three, but grumbled the entire time. Saying something like ” I am going to get a call from upstairs about taking these”.
A couple of days ago at Walmart my Athenos 2/2 coupon scanned a dollar. The cashier just said “huh that is odd, that should be 2 and it is scanning as 1” and changed the price to 2. I agreed and said that is odd and said that is a legit coupon I don’t know why it would say that. She kinda just shrugged lol.
lol Not mine!
What a joke ! I went to my local Walmart just yesterday and not only did the cashier refuse my IP but when I asked for a manager he said they don’t accept them either, I left the store and purchased NOTHING!
if anyone has my luck Im sure there will still be a issue because of that lovely word “valid”…ive been told at my walmart that the barcode for an internet coupon needs to have yellow dots through it or they will not be credited. Ive told them ive never heard , or had an issue of this at any other store, so they then say “well then I guess they wont be credited”. My walmart is so stupid anyway, im still having issues using the tide $1 co with no size restrictions for the travel size tide, I swear there cashiers cant read.
Neither of my two local walmarts will accept the tide ones either! They always say ‘its the computer, I can’t do anything about it ‘. UGH!!
When I have coupons, I’m pretty picky about which cashier I choose at Walmart. But I have had really good luck most of the time. Some of them take a long time trying to find issues before they scan the coupons (of course, I remember them & don’t go through their line again LOL) but I’m very careful about which coupons I use there. And since the Tide coupons beep, some cashiers do stop & read to make sure they’re right but most just push them on through. Still, I can get so many things cheaper at Kroger, Wags, and CVS so I’m not a big Walmart shopper.
Also, recently some cashiers/CSMs have only let me use 2 identical printables. I suppose the theory here is that you can only print 2 per computer. Again, that’s not a big deal for me at Walmart because I do the majority of my shopping somewhere else (thank goodness).
It’s always nice to start the New Year with a laugh (“gladly”? lol).
I wish we had some other stores to shop at so I wouldn’t rely on Wal Mart so much. We’ve got Wal Mart, Winn Dixie, and Rouse’s. That’s it. I think we have a very overpriced farmer’s market, too…but nothing else for about a 40 mile radius. I’ve been tempted to make the 1 hr drive to Publix.
My Publix is almost an hour drive for me and I go there once a week! I love it! My Publix accepts Target, Bi-Lo, and Food Lion coupons as well. I truly hate Walmart and rarely shop there anymore since I started couponing, it just isn’t worth the hassle.
I work for a Wal-Mart and I will say there are tons of scams. I have seen some really stupid ones and some pretty smart ones. Employees are on constant guard. From my personal experiences, I have seen alot of coupon types get used. There are a few exceptions, but not many. They weren’t doing buy one get one free for example, but if you are not sure ask the associate and if they are “not in the know” ask for a Front End CSM or Zone manager. If you are still not happy you can go all the way to the store manager and they will gladly help. I will also say there are some who are unaware and not fully experienced. I work with some who know alot and will help get you get what is right. I have been there for years so I am one of those who will make it right for you so don’t get too frustrated with the newbies..,,,every company has them. Just be patient. In the end, you should get the best deal. That is what they are supposed to do.
While I had “happy dance” after scored FREE shaver gift set plus moneymaker ($2.22 then $4 coupon), I noticed that on my receipt and thought same thing. Also I know some cashiers at there are not happy campers sometimes so like other said I always try to find an employ who is coupon friendly.
My Wal-Mart said that they do not take black and white internet coupons.
My husband is an Assistant Store Manager at our local Walmart. He has been with the company over 10 years. I began using coupons shortly after we were married last year. It has been amazing to me and VERY frustrating to him the wide range of response and incorrect information I have received from his cashiers. Though the front end is not “his area” he has taken it upon himself to make our store more coupon friendly. He sees the value in couponers shopping at Walmart and has found it disturbing when I have shown him the comments that say, “I will never shop at Walmart again.” He has asked me for the coupon policies of other stores and is working on project that would expand and clarify Walmart’s corporate coupon policy. Short of that he is better educating his staff. So hang in there frustrated shoppers, hopefully change is coming. If you should run into an issue, ask to speak to a member of management. They should resolve it for you. If not, most stores post the phone number of the store manager and you can call them. After that, call corporate. But I do recommend starting with a member of management because corporate will simply have one of them call you. Great deals using coupons can be found at Walmart and so can great cashiers and management.
Thanks so much for posting this, Collin! This was one of the rare times that I didn’t have any issues with coupons! 🙂
Oh, and I once contacted Walmart because they told me my coupon was fraudulent. I emailed customer service and this is what they sent back: the guidelines for accepting coupons.
Walmart Stores can accept coupons that are available on the internet for customers to print from their home computers. The following are guidelines for the stores for accepting internet coupons:
– The coupon should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon”. There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer, to ensure the coupon can be processed for payment.
– The coupon should have a scan-able bar code.
– The coupon should have an expiration date.
– The coupon cannot be a photocopy.
– The limit is one coupon per item, per Customer.
– A Salaried Manager can refuse to accept a coupon if it does not meet any or all of these guidelines.
Yeah I think it’s more the EMPLOYEES who work the registers at Walmart rather than corporate. (Which is why I only go there about once a month now and only if I HAVE to!!). Just stating a fact: the cashiers at my local Walmarts just don’t seem to get it. I’ve been accused of copying coupons (when they all have different #’s…nice), they’ll search my bags to make sure I purchased a certain item, all the while holding up the line because THEY don’t get it, and yet it looks like I’M the one doing it. They’re clueless sometimes and it drives me crazy. With two little kids in toe, their cluelessness is not something I want to have to deal with while checking out!!
so they dont check my bags at walmart i have resorted to taking each coupon and putting it on the item it is for, so then my cashier doesnt have to search through my bags. HTH! 🙂
I have never really run into a problem with wal-mart. I think its all about hitting the right cashiers, though. I just moved into a new area and they have a u-scan in the wal-mart near my home. U scan the coupon yourself and then slip it into this hole. So the cashier running the u-scans never even sees the coupon! Its wonderful…! Just used it last night for the first time and got one of those hasbro card games for .24! But, even without the u-scan no probs at wal-mart..with the right young male cashiers lol
i hope my walmart gets u scans!
This is perfect! My Walmart has been claiming for months that they won’t take internet printable coupons so I have pretty much stopped shopping there. I had to go there the other day for a specific item they only carried and I just checked the bottom of my receipt and sure enough it says that say message. I’m keeping this one with me if/when they give me any grief again! THANK YOU for posting this!
I’m sure they’d have a field day with the term “valid” in that sentence, though. LOL Personally, I haven’t had too many problems at Walmart using coupons, even IP’s. Only one cashier refused my coupons because she claimed I could only use one per transaction, and even after I explained to her that it meant I could use one coupon per item, not transaction, she still sneered at me and pushed my coupons back. So I just had her remove the items from my purchase. I think that was more an issue of education, or lack thereof, than store policy.
We don’t use Wal*Mart anymore. Too hard to use coupons there and their recent commitment to DHS really made us decide we don’t use Wal*Mart.
The Walmart I shop at most often said they will take them only if they will scan. Sometimes the coupons you print at home will not scan even when they use the “scanning wand” at the register. She said it is their policy to accept it only if it will scan. I hope it doesn’t come to where they will not accept them period. I will then either go to Meijer, Kroger or Target. I’ve had no problems yet with these stores.
Cool! Thanks, Collin!
theres a really awesome cashier at our wal-mart. she’s always very friendly and helpful and she never ever complains about coupons
Thanks for sharing that Shannon! My husband is a manager at Walmart and we rarely hear anything positive about couponers shopping there.
I went in with $1 coupons on Skinny Cow individual cups and B2G1F as well. According to the Cashier & the Manager, The 3 items used in the B2G1F could not have any coupons used on them. I asked her why since that the two bought at regular price were not discounted. She argued with me but then let me do it. I told her that that was not their policy at all and in the future I would go to the other Walmart in town since the “prerequisite” for this particular Walmart is the ability to be rude and hateful to the customers. Unfortunately this is a pretty well known “attitude” at this Walmart and the other one (which is also close by) is so much more friendly! We just got an Aldi’s so we shop for very little at Walmart now!
Haha, that is AWESOME! i would never have noticed that before either, thanks!!
I shop at Walmart only if they have a good sale, some of the cashiers don’t like the coupons but I still use them was at our local Walmart last night our total before coupons was over $50.00 and after Coupons was $9.00 . I have had many Issues with Target was there last night also and the Cashier had many problems with my Coupons and the Manager told her to take my Coupons I walked out of Target only paying .17 cents for my order and the other day the cashier told me she would take my coupons this time I made a big deal about it my bill before coupons was over $100.00 and walked out paying $40.00 . I use to work retail and would have never treated my costumers they way the cashiers are treating people who use coupons , maybe they dont have the need to save money but I do have to save money having 1 income and 5 kids we need all the savings we can get
Because walmart is evil. LOL At one store, they tell me I can’t use a manufacturer’s coupon because it has the Target logo. That Buitoni purposely dropped their prices so that Target could buy tons of it and put the Bullseye on the coupon. Really? Let’s see… I’m not a newbie to couponing AND I work at walmart. I think I know how this works by now.
At this point, being out on disability, I avoid walmart like the plague these days. Target’s so much better.
I LOVE it! I think we need to all carry a copy of this receipt with us to Walmart!! I had an issue with a Walmart cashier….she told me that she could not take my coupons…because it would make the items FREE???…she would NOT even scan them…what does she think the coupons are for?….but with that being said…I have had some Awesome cashiers at Walmart…We had one at Walgreens 2 weeks ago that was absolutely the BEST!! She knew her coupons and the policy and she actually helped us make several transactions that I had missed that gave us extra rewards!! I decided …(a little later)…that when we had awesome cashiers…I would find the manager and tell them what a wonderful job that cashier was doing!! (I thought of this after we were on our way home..and felt bad, because I didn’t give her the praise she deserved)…so that is one of my New Year’s resolutions!! Thanks for your AWESOME site!! It is the BEST!!
I wish my Walmart would “gladly” accept them. I tried using a couple of them there a while back and they refused to accept them, even though I had a copy of their coupon policy and showed it to them. I took back all my coupons and left without buying anything. I even emailed corporate but got a response saying they should have taken it and since they didn’t that the coupons must have been fake.
Wow – that’s just… really sad that corporate would say that!
I have also had a cashier tell me that the item has to be what is pictured on the coupon. Instead of telling them how ridiculous that was, I just stayed calm and pointed out the wording on the coupon and mentioned that they can not possibly fit a photo of all items included onto the coupon and that the image chosen was simply an example of what you could get. Gheesh! Do they train these people on how to be annoying?!
That is hilarious! Mine gives me a hard time every time I try to use them. Now they refuse to use any IP that are for free items. I couldn’t use the Sunbelt granola bar coupons last month and Walmart is the only place that carried them. My Kroger also won’t accept IP for free items, even if I have to buy something to get it free. I prefer to do everything at Target if I can.
Some locations were giving me problems so I am so glad they have changed the policy.
Every single internet coupon I use there does not go through…I now use a system when using any coupon at Wal-Mart, as I also found high dollar coupons do not go through regularly either.
I make a list of the Q’s with the last 4 digits of the scannable code (not the sku) and the amount of each that I will be using. I add the total of Q’s and the total # of Q’s. That way, as I sit there and say, over and over and over, “that one didn’t come off,” it’s easier to find which ones did come off and which didn’t.
Wal-Mart is by far the most frustrating experience I have in shopping. I have had to go back in and have them pull the Q’s out of the drawer to go item by item to see what came off and what didn’t, but my new “system” seems to help me help the cashier a little better on the front end.
Our walmart always gives me problems when I am using coupons and get things for free or very cheap…I always call over the manager who isnt happy about walking over….Many many times because if I use 15 coupons and the cashier has issues with with any of them I keep calling the manager over for everyone LOL I know they hate me there. At the end of my transactions I always smile and say if you would like to know how to get all the savings like I do I would be happy to show you!!!! And I have a spare copy of walmarts corporate coupon policy if you need one to use as a reference!!!!!
I had the store manager tell me that they ONLY accept coupons from coupons.com. It must have that funky bar code in the top right corner (like the ones from coupons.com have). No printed smartsource, no coupons from manufacturers facebook pages that don’t go through coupons.com. I have almost completely stopped shopping there.
same problem with the smartsource coupons…I have issuse with them going through ALOT
I was going to post this myself. The Wal-Mart I frequent the most doesn’t have a problem with internet coupons, just Smart Source. They claim that they don’t get reimbursed for Smart Source coupons from the internet or otherwise. Most Smart Source coupons don’t have their logo on them, like Sunday inserts, but the ones that do like internet, peelies, and blinkies they won’t take; it can not say Smart Source on the coupon regardless of where it’s from.
I used plenty of coupons.com coupons last night with no problems but I was really surprised the Sunbelt PDF coupon scanned and was accepted without a hitch.
