So maybe I am a little out of the loop with technology, but I had no idea that many of the books and games that are available for FREE via Amazon.com for a Kindle are also available for FREE for a PC, MAC, iPad and more! Check out this email that I received from reader, Nicole…

Hey Collin, I just recently discovered that Amazon has tons of free Kindle books – maybe around 360! There are some free games for the Kindle as well.  BUT… the best part is that people (like me) that do not own a Kindle can still get the free books.  Amazon has Kindle for PC which is free.  Once you select to “buy” one of the free books or even a book that costs Amazon will guide you through installing the Kindle for PC.  I’ve downloaded all kinds of free stuff: The Bible, cookbook, diet book, Christian Fiction, Education books, etc.  There is something for everyone and it seems like so many people don’t know this even exists!

Wanna snag these free books or games for your PC or MAC? Here’s what you need to do…

* Head over here and download the FREE Reading App for your device
* Then head over to Amazon’s Kindle store and browse through the more than 350 free games and books available for download
* Once you find something that interests you, click on the item and then click on the “Available on These Devices.” Choose your device and follow the instructions.

(Thanks, Nicole!)

You can also do the same thing at Barnes and Noble and Borders websites. They may have different free books, etc that you can download and apps to support them on your computer.

I have the Kindle for PC but I have never been able to download games. I forget the message it sends but they will not download, But their are tons of free books and I really enjoy mine!

    • Nicole

Yeah, you can’t do the games. I only mentioned the games for those that actually have a Kindle.

Weekly I go to amazon, select kindle store in the drop down and just hit the go button with nothing in the search bar. It pulls up the most popular downloads. Then I start clicking through the results. Usually by about page 10, I have 2 or 3 freebie books to try out. They change weekly and I have found some truly awesome book series by doing this. It works becuase the best freebies are pretty popular and this is the best way I have found to find them quickly. I tried searching by price, etc… but I get pages and pages of old historical books. I have a kindle myself and love it. Amazon is one of my favorite webistes ever!

I have been undecided if I wanted to get a kindle or something like it. I haven’t read any books in awhile, so was hoping to get one to start again. What all can you do with these? I am interested in hearing they do games too. hmmm. Can you search the internet via wifi on them? Cool that there is so many free things available!

I love my NookColor. Anyone know how to get good free books? Not the historical ones, etc, but newer novels? Also, if you go to “shop” on your Nook, then type in the type of book you want, ie childrens, fiction, etc, then type 0.00 you will get all the free Nook books in that genre. For example, Childrens 0.00 wil get you all the free kids books. Shop Fiction 0.00 and you’ll get the free fiction books. Not great books, but free! A couple of the kids books are decent.

So far the only one I have found books that are half way good books, [for what my likes] for the nook is on kobo but not the newer ones. I havent checked to many in Google book yet as I have just been checking the site the last couple of days. Even with book loan with B&N a lot of books old and new are not available to loan ugg.

You can also get the programs for Kobo and Google books for your pc they both have free books and both those can be used for the Nook to read on them [although I have yet to do that and I have a nook] , You can also put the programs on a lot of phones at least the Google book program .

  14. teresa

i downloaded the app and several books, i got emails saying it charged me 0.99. did anyone else get this?

    • Nicole

I’ve never gotten an email about being charged. Was the price listed at $0? There are books that cost, so you have to be careful about looking at the price.

Love this. I have an Iphone, do I get the app from itunes site? Will it download from the phone on internet or do I have to put it on my pc then transfer ot to the phone?

    • Kathleen

You should be able to do it in itunes on your pc/mac or through the app store on your phone. Or even the Amazon website. Be warned, it is addicting! My husband hides the ipod so I will stop reading, LOL.
