UPDATE: I just wanted to update you all that this giveaway is NOT that great after all! 🙁 In fact, referring 20 friends does not guarantee you a pair of jeans. I personally am not going to waste my time and the way they wrote up this giveaway seems very misleading. Read the comments to see all the details.
Petrol Jeans is offering up an awesome Facebook promo! Just head on over to their Facebook page, “Like” them, then click on the “Win a Pair!” tab. Here’s what they’ve stated:

When you click on the “win a pair” tab, above the pictures of the jeans on the right it says “comments.” That is where you leave the name of who sent you.

If you read the fine print, it’s totally misleading. Hardly anyone will get a free pair of jeans, just the select few with the highest numbers of referrals. What a drag! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news 🙁 It seems 20 mentions only qualifies you to be eligible.
7. Winner Determination/Odds: At the conclusion of the Voting Period, winners will be determined by the highest number of name mentions posted to the Contest tab by fans during the eligible period from all eligible Submissions received. The odds of being selected as a potential winner depend on the number of eligible Submissions received during the Sweepstakes Period. Minimum of 20 mentions is required to qualify; one nomination per person.
JonnaBeth, I read that too – and there’s pretty detailed info. about the submission entry too:
5. How to Enter: During the Contest period, visit the Petrol Jeans fan page and follow the links and instructions to participate in the Sweepstakes. Submit one (1) entry on in order to receive one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes (the “Submission”).6. And, like you said, it is misleading – on the face, it appears 20 entries guarantees you a pair of jeans but, as you noted, the fine print reads that it merely qualifies you and entrants with the highest # of comments are those truly in the running….

You know, my question is this – if they have multiple people with the SAME NAME trying to win a pair of jeans, how are they going to know which vote is for which person? Sounds like a poorly thought out contest!!!! I’m wondering if they have a script to count the persons names? If not, I’d hate to be the person weeding through THOUSANDS of pages of comments!
This just sounds fishy to me.
Also, how does Petro know WHO the persons are that are being voted for? What if “Joe Smith” was voted for 20 times.. how do they know WHICH “Joe Smith”???? When you put someones name on there, it’s just a name in text – no link, nothing – and if you aren’t friends with them on Facebook, there is no connection.. not that it matters, because as I said, this contest sounds poorly constructed!

They may have changed the rules but that still doesn’t explain how this contest is being run. I bet at the very least ONE of you has the same name as another person on Facebook. So how do they know those 20 votes are for YOU and not the other person with your name?
And it states in the rules that they will notify the winners via EMAIL – HOW are they going to do that? They don’t have your email address, that’s part of Facebooks PRIVACY – and besides, like I said, how do they know who is WHO? They don’t! They have NO identifying information about you to declare you a winner. All they have are thousands of peoples names and that is IT, no connections or identifying information to the names that are being posted.
I say this is a stunt to drive fans, publicity and possible sales!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought I would let everyone know that it is only one person mention per person. Boy that sucks!!!! 🙁
