Have you had issues trying to use internet printable coupons at Walmart? I cannot believe the amount of emails I receive from readers on a weekly basis regarding coupon issues at Walmart. From the cashier telling you that Wamart does not accept internet printable coupons to the cashier stating you can only purchase what’s pictured on the coupon and the list goes on…

With that being said, check out the picture below:

Notice anything? 😀

my walmart is terrivle with coupons. i rarely go there anymore vc its just a hassle,.

  2. ASHLEY L

I went to use a few internet coupons today at Wal-Mart and was advised that they couldn’t use any of my internet coupons because they have decided to stop taking them. I used internet coupons at the same Wal-Mart not even two weeks ago but the manager told me I must be mistaken because he has been there 4 months and has never accepted them. I hoestly don’t know if I will go back no matter what the deal. It is just too difficult to know what they plan on doing that day. What I find ammusing is that my receipt also say that they gladly accept valid internet coupons, but they refused to even scan mine.

  3. Jenny

I laughed out loud when I saw this! Too funny!! Personally, for me, I don’t think that all the hassle I have to go through is worth it, so therefore, I no longer shop at Walmart. I am an avid couponer, but sometimes, you just gotta’ walk away and not look back. With patience and persistance, I have been able to get most of my old “Walmart deals” at other stores.

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Just had the strangest thing happen at Wal-Mart! I was looking over a receipt and noticed they didn’t do a comp ad right and had overcharged me on some ham I bought. Well I didn’t want to take the ham with me as I was going other places after going there so I took picture of the label with all info clearly showing. I explained to the lady at the SD the problem ( the weight had been entered wrong) I had written the correct wt. off to the side and the amount owed me off to the other side. The lady said well how bout I just refund your full amount? Would that make you happy? Well that would make me really happy but all you have to do is refund 2.50 plus tax. I again tried to tell her and she said no it would be easier just to refund the whole amount!!! So she refunded me 12.00 instead of 2.50! This is soooo not like them! LOL

    • Tricia

      .

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

When They ring the incorrect amount they are supposed to (their own policy) give you the full refund.

      • Madcap

That’s hasn’t been the policy for many, many years. When dealing with things that are “per pound”, such as deli meats or produce, the customer service desk has issues because they don’t have scales. So, it’s just easier for some to refund the whole amount. I personally grab a scrap of paper and do the math, but I really like math, so yeah. Take that for what it’s worth.

  5. Heather

I work at Walmart, and there has never been a problem with coupons! If it has a barcode, we take it…if the barcode doesn’t print well, we still take it. We price match everything and have been told “we can not question our customers” If you tell me something is a price…it is done. Walmart is like the easiest place for anyone to shop….really we are a bunch of pushovers and do what ever the customer tells us.

    • Lauren

Ah, wish they’d send that memo to other stores too 😀 I’ve had ridiculously stupid conversations a few times regarding coupons, very tiring 😀 Sounds like you’re at a great Walmart!

      • Quanniece

I agree. I just had a problem with a coupon yesterday that was a walmart issued coupon and they would not take their own coupon. Go figure-I don’t shop there much and will probably stop doing the little shopping that I do there. 2011 I will continue my business at stores that appreciate me as a customer.

    • April C

Would love for you to explain that to the people at my Wal-mart!! Even the Manager told me that I had to purchase what was pictured on my coupons. I showed her the policy that I had, she informed me that ANYONE could print anything that they wanted it to say. Said I was trying to rip off the store. I told her how could I do that when they got a refund for the amout plus some.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I wish you worked at the WalMart in Conroe – they DO NOT take internet coupons!

      • Rockporter

They don’t take them in Rockport either! It really is a bummer because I have to drive to the next two towns if I want to use internet Q’s.

    • Jennifer Patterson

I am always amazed at everyone’s comments about Walmart because I have never had a problem. I’ve gone to different Walmarts and still never had an issue. They will take my coupons no matter what, even if it doesn’t scan for whatever reason, they do it manually.

    • Ann

Dang!! What Walmart you work at.

    • JO

I wish I lived near where you worked and would shop there; my store won’t honor other store coupons and I have a hard time getting any accepted. I like a lot of people am tired of shopping at Walmart. I have transferred all my prescriptions somewhere else and am tired of being treated this way.

    • L.H.

That’s now how I’m treated. I stopped shopping at WalMart because I tried to use an internet coupons and the cashier told me she couldn’t take the coupon because I was a “scammer”. So I asked the manager and he said their new policy was not to take internet coupons because too many people were cheating them out of money.

  6. Tricia

I used to shop Walmart faithfully before i used coupons a lot. Now, i rarely go there at all. They do not take any printed coupons at all, no matter what it is. I can get a better deal at Target. I have to laugh at that reciept photo. I was told by both the cashier and a manager that they don’t take them. I pointed out the coupon policy and they essentially accused me of lying. They said they didn’t take them because of too much fraud and that their company policy does not allow them to. What a load of crap. I won’t be shopping there. I don’t want to be made to look like a criminal, and that is exactly what happened.

I posted this on Facebook also. They MUST accept coupons. I had a similar issue at a “not so nice” area walmart and the Corporate office told me that stores cannot deny coupons. I was told to carry a printed copy of the Walmart Corporate Internet Coupon Policy, they even volunteered to email it to me. After I filed a huge complaint on the store, their “denying” completely stopped. When I encounter a cashier that refuses them, I show them the printed policy and it clears up the issue. Dont hestitate to file a complaint on a specific store.

      • Madcap

So when the customer at my store presented me with the coupon for the free Playstation 3, I should have just gone with it? Sorry cupcake, not going to happen. We get fraudulent coupons ALL THE TIME. We have lists of them at the registers. If you present me with a coupon I know to be fraudulent, you can call whomever you want and complain to whomever you want, but I’m still not taking it.

  7. CA

This is such a coincidence that this was posted today – yesterday I had some problems with WalMart and coupons. What I have found is that any coupon over $1 now asks for the cashier to confirm the amount. My cashier wasn’t noticing it half the time and was trying to continue to scan coupons. When she would finally notice and confirm, I doubted that some of the coupons she scanned while the register was displaying the confirm amount notice were actually taken off my total. I had never had a problem with WalMart and coupons so I hadn’t taken a total of what my coupons should be before I checked out. I really think that some of the coupons were not taken off.

  8. jen

I personally don’t have a problem at my walmart. I usually do the self check out anyways.

  9. Renee L

I just looked at the bottom of one of my Walmart receipts and it doesn’t have that nice little message at the bottom…..lol

  10. Julie

I had no problem using the IP coupons for the Hungry HIppos and UBuild Monopoly when there were the deals on 12/22, although I did try to look for an accommodating cashier.

  11. Ashlee

We just moved to NC. I just went to walmart today and talked to customer service…. because a few weeks ago I went their and they would not accept my internet coupon, when before living in California I never had a problem! So the result was that they said they only accept certain ones, where they are actually reimbursed. They gladly accept coupons with the Green veriication dot on the right side.

  12. HappyCampers

That must be really frustrating when folks are trying to honestly use valid coupons and are made to feel like they are doing something wrong. I don’t think the experiences are limited to WalMart though. I had this exact experience at Target this week, with lots of my items less than the coupon amount, & the cashier needed to adjust the amounts down. He had to call over the manager, they looked over my coupon, argued with me, and eventually gave me my deals because they were valid! I had MFG coupons as well as internet prints.

FWIW, two of my local WalMarts are both very accomidating and never give me any grief regarding internet printed coupons. I probably average about 15 coupons per visit (newspaper clipped & home printed combined) and other than a snarky cashier every now and then, I never have problems with them accepting them.

It sounds like WalMart needs to have a complete re-communication of their coupon policy with ALL their stores!

  13. Naomi

I just had trouble using internet coupon at walmart, well, again…
I tried to use $2/2 Yogurt coupon. Their trick is, it makes noise when they scan it, like it was scanned and deducted! But it is not!! I check on the screen and tell the cashier that it is not deducted. Then casher gives me back the coupon and tell me that I can use it next time. “what?” I am buying because of coupon! So, I told her that I don’t want it if I can’t use coupon. Now, I have to go to Customer service just to return 2 yogurt….. Of course I have to be in line again. Then the lady at Customer service said, “we have list of counterfeit coupons and this is the only way to avoid accepting them” or something like that. Again, “what??” Are you telling me that I am trying to steal?? They just don’t know how to talk to customer. And of course many of the cashier doesn’t know how to handle coupons. And we, customers, are the one to be blamed for….. I just want to say they have to let the customer know if they are not accepting any coupons. They are actually ripping us off by pretending they scanned the coupon! This was not the first time so I counted how many coupons I am using and how much total I am saving before I gave them to the cashier.
But like most of the people here are saying, I am not shopping at Walmart anymore!

  14. Lori Thomas

I just used the internet printed coupon for $8.00 off on Eclipse Movie with no prob. I always carry my coupon policy with me.

  15. kim

I noticed this same thing at the bottom of my receipt at my WalMart today. My husband actually sent me there because while he was there today, they made an announcement that all red priced clearanced toys were an additional 50% off. Needless to day, he called me from the car and told me to get ready to go. I got a TON of great toys (including legos and scooters and such) and paid between $5-$12 a piece! We are set for Valentines gifts for the kids, some birthday presents for them, and a ton of birthday gifts to give through out the year. i

  16. Beverly

I used a coupon for free cheese a couple of days ago and when I was there yesterday with the same coupon they said they no longer accepted them. I told the cashier I used one a few days ago, so she asked her manager and returned saying the reason is “they no longer accept internet coupons if it is for an item free”. I told her to charge me 1 cent, then it would not be free. The cheese price was 4.98 and the coupon covered up to 7.00! Go figure.

  17. missie_renee

I noticed the same thing at the bottom of my receipt on Thursday night. The funny thing is that I had JUST had trouble with the greek yogurt IPs and ended up having a CSM come over and manually push them through. Ironic!

  18. kayla

i never had a problem with walmart in AZ, but one store would not take some printed from SS because they didnt have the “Yellow Dots” by the expire date i was super bumed.

  19. Ria

Now if only my -local- Walgreens will do this! And have it installed in their cashiers’ brains.

  20. Jane

I noticed this on my receipt there last night too! And I didn’t have any problems with my coupons…maybe things are looking up!

  21. Maria S.

I’m sure someone else already said this, but…
In my experience in th southwest area of Houston, if the coupon doesn’t scan, especially the internet ones, then they are denied. One time when I handed over 2-3 internet printed coupons, the cashier said “let’s see if these are valid, if they don’t scan they won’t be accepted”.
Off the subject of Walmart…The local Walgreens here also won’t accept internet printed coupons if they don’t scan properly. A couple nights ago at Randalls I was trying to redeem the Cottonelle moist wipes coupon before it expired, and the cashier wouldn’t even scan it without calling management first, and the coupon was double-sided, glossy, and the border was a sparkly silver.

  22. Sheila

I too had an issue with Walmart, but what the cashier and CSM didn’t know is that I have worked for Walmart and knew who to call. Needless to say I had home office on the line telling the store that they will accept my coupons. They may not have liked it but I was out to prove the cashier and their customer service manager they were wrong. I can well understand how angry a customer would be to spend all that time in there shopping to be told they wouldn’t accept my coupons.

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i ad matched something other day well she didnt wanna take my q on that item she asked cashier behind her he said ya go ahead but it kills me 2 do that i asked y he ignored me so i asked y again he said bc ur takin money outta my pocket wtf i said how do u fig u get an extra 8 cents w my q that u dont get fm cash he got this o im a dumbass look and didnt say another word thats the prob w cashiers they take it very personally here like u r takin money from them however target is awesome never have any prob i only shop @ walmart if i absolutly have to

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i agree it happen to several times but it really depends on your cashier. most of the time they won’t let me use it because i already price match meaning that i get a discount. if you want to use a coupon to make the price even lower they won’t allow. the cashier had to get a CSM to get an approval and they wouldn’t accept the coupon because i was getting everything for free. I got really upset about and left the store w/o nothing:( . These CSM are not real friendly at WM, they don’t care about customers saving money. BTW Tanisha Faulkner show me her name tag and that she was a Customer Service Manager/Supervisor like i’m really slow and she was really rude.(THIS HAPPEN LAST YR)

  24. Holly

I know that Walmart will price-match, but last week I noticed in one of their ads that they had printed at the top of one of the pages, “we gladly accept competitor’s coupons.” Does that mean they will take a Target coupon? I’ve never tried this at my Walmart and was wondering if anyone else had ever done it.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

no they don’t target coupons have a really long digit starting with a 9 and long bar codes.they won’t accept coomp coupons. its only valid at target

  25. JAY

Walmart cashier told me today that they are no more accepting Internet coupons, they are now only accepting mfr coupons from magazines or newspaper. She took my internet coupon this time but told me next time she will not take……

  26. Tracee

    13 items for $3.47? NICE!!! 🙂

  27. helen

i recently went to a walmart to use a manufacturer coupon that was a buy a body wash and get a deordarant for free. they said they do not accept those coupons. i asked for a supervisor and i got the same answer

    • jessica01

We do actually take these coupons or at least @ my store.

  28. Nicole

I have successfully used internet coupons and coupons for free items (Exedrin, Cottonelle Wipes, etc.) at my local Walmart for over a year now. Never once have any of them been questioned or rejected.

  29. Rachel

I actually just went to Kroger today and they wouldn’t accept my internet coupon! I had a buy one get one free for vitamin water and they said they can’t take internet coupons! I don’t understand because usually Kroger allows me to use my internet coupons?

  30. Francine

We have 3 Walmart’s in my town and I have issues using coupons at all of them. If the internet coupon does not have the bar code at the top right of the coupon they will not take them. I have also had issues when trying to use a coupon that is valued for more than the product. I have spoken to managers about this and asked that they just adjust the amount and one had told me it was coupon fraud. I hate Walmart and only shop there when I don’t have time to go anywhere else.

    • jessica01

That is not coupon fraud, they can adjust it. issues when trying to use a coupon that is valued for more than the product. all they have to do is type in price of the product and hit vendor coupon. Get the district managers phone #and call him/or her. They will do more than calling 1-800 walmart, (call center).

  31. bcjackman

My Walmart is awesome! The poor CSMs chuckle when I come in knowing they will have to override the amount of coupons I use!! The few issues I do have are quickly resolved. Awesome!!

  32. Michele

The catch is that they say “valid” my WalMart advertises they accept these but the cashiers don’t know that they need to scan the one bar code and the other makes it beep so that sets them off and they say its not valid. They may say they do but it doesn’t mean it won’t be without a hassle. Walmart has lost most of my business because of the way they treat me as a customer; it isn’t worth the hassle and I refuse to stand in line when they have one or two register lines open and yet the entire front of the store is lined with registers that are closed.

I have complained to my local manager and that seemed to help the problem but it is a wide spread problem and until WalMart at the coporate level addresses this issue it will continue. Walmart lost their vision of really taking care of the customer and has become greedy. Take your business to someone else; I shop their huge sales and don’t worry about them any other time.

  33. Meg

My wal-mart also refuses all internet coupons, which really is frustrating since the nearest Target is 20 minutes away. I live in the Southwest Chicagoland area, does anyone know of any wal-marts around here that are coupon friendly?

    • jessica01

I’m a Cashier @ walmart, in VA. If get the District managers phone #, and if they have problems taking your coupons, they won’t anymore.

  34. Mitchell Wischmann

I sent this picture to Collin, and, well, guess what?! I was accused of coupon fraud when trying to use my Reach floss coupons today!

  35. betty-jo

Got a new cashier today at walmart. She Scanned my coupons but did not tell me that two didn’t scan. Instead of giving them back she kept them. My fault but in my defense I did have a two year old that was fussy and already eating a banana. Smuckers is going back and if they ask why I will be telling them the cashier didn’t scan my coupon and kept it.
I don’t like getting new cashiers. Sigh. I will online be using printed out coupons at the self check out from now on.

  36. Jimmer

When you actually have a current walmart recipt in your hand saying at the bottom internet coupons accepted and they will not take your internet coupon ask for a manager if he refuses to take your internet coupon ask or district managers phone number and call right there holding up the line or tell them they are breaking the law and ask them to callthe police this may seem extreme but your are not only sending a message that you as a customer will not be pushed around but also teaching the manager a valuable lesson as well as reporting his bad job performance

  37. Madcap

Walmart accepts valid coupons. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been screamed at by people trying to use coupons that were expired, for the wrong things, or that were fraudulent. If you want to use coupons at Walmart:
-Coupons must be scanned to be valid. Cut them out with scissors, don’t tear them. In order for the coupon to scan, we have to have *both* bar codes. Not just one or the other, as was mentioned before. If part of the bar code is missing, or if the expiration date is missing, we can’t accept it.
-With internet coupons, again, the coupon *has* to scan. Make sure your printer is in good working order, and that you have plenty of ink. If you can’t read it, neither can my scanner, and I can’t accept it.
-Don’t alter them. Don’t write on them. Try not to fold or crumple them around the bar code area. I know BOGO coupons have an area to write in the price. It’s great that you want to help, but that’s my job, I have to do it. I have to verify the price. I’m not trying to waste your time, and I’m not accusing you of anything, so don’t get snippy. It may be your groceries, but it’s my JOB. Please let me do it.
-We do accept competitor’s coupons. We don’t scan them like coupons though, we adjust the price as though it were an ad match. It’s routinely very helpful to let the cashier know you have those as she’s ringing, as opposed to waiting until the end. Because then we have to go through the whole order, find the item, void it, and re-scan it with the new price.
-We don’t accept expired coupons. No one does. Do your shopping in a timely manner.
-If you’re downloading your coupons from a reputable source, fine. Just make sure they print nicely. If your mom forwarded you a coupon in an email for a free pack of Oreo’s, or some Reynold’s Wrap, that she got from her sister’s- daughter’s- roommate’s – coworker, then it’s probably fraudulent. Most, if not all coupon’s that circulate through email are fraudulent, unless of course, the email came directly from the manufacturer. When you hand us a fraudulent coupon, ninety-nine times out of one hundred, we know that you don’t know it’s a fraud. We know that you thought it was valid. We know that most of our customers are not liars and thieves. So, please feel free to NOT attack me for informing you that you, too, have been the victim of a fraudulent coupon.
-With coupons, and with ad matches, you have to get the identical item, under the exact conditions of the ad or coupon. If the ad or coupon says “buy one at regular price, get one free.” You buy one at full price, and you get one free. You can not buy one with an ad match from another store or a coupon for $1.00 off, and then get the other one free. If the ad says “10 for $10.00,” you get 10 items for $10.00. You don’t get 1 for $1.00. et cetera. If the ad or coupon is for Velveeta, don’t bring me store brand cheese product and expect to be able to use the coupon or ad. You didn’t get the correct item. If it says “$2.00 off three boxes of General Mills cereal” don’t bring up two General Mills and a Kellogg’s and expect to use the coupon. It has to be the exact items.
-In couponing, as with everything else under the sun, you get more flies with honey. Remember, I’m a person with thoughts and ideas and feelings of my own. I am not a robot or a mindless Walmart drone. I’m a lot more likely to work with you, and find a happy medium, if not totally give you what you want if you’re nice to me. If you come at me with attitude from the very beginning, it’s a lot harder for me to care about you as a fellow human.
