    What is the s/s?

    • Nicole Z.

The Smart Source coupon insert in the Sunday paper.

  2. Gabrielle

Awesome! My dog refuses to eat dog food (she’ll only eat cat food- have no clue why but somehow she knows the difference!) But I know plenty of doggies who will love this!

    • serranosaver

Cat food is much higher in protein than dog food which is why they like it so much! (My dog was doing the same thing) I asked my vet & he said that if they eat a lot of cat food it can actually cause kidney damage, so I would be careful with the cat food!

      • Jenny

Yes, cat food will eventually make your dog really sick! Not a good idea.

      • Dorinne

right…our beagle LOVES the kitty food so we have to put it up on the counter when we’re not home or sleeping! The cat will occasionally take a nibble from the dog’s food dish but we think that’s more his way of showing her that HE rules the house and can do what he wants. LOL He doesn’t eat more than one or two kibbles and it’s like once a week or so, not a big deal. She will scarf down the entire bowl of kitty food, though, so we have to keep it where she can’t reach if we’re not there to stop her from going near it.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I agre with the other two posters. Cats need ALOT more protein than dogs. Honestly, i would only give your dog food meant for dogs. You can try to kick that habit by mixing cat and dog food together. Slowly cut back on th cat food everyday. That should do the trick.

      • Anabel

What if my cat’s like dog food? is that bad also? I love my cat’s but I sure don’t them sick because I let them eat dog food.

        • Jenny

My vet says no to cats eating dog food either. I’ve had 2 different vets say this since we had to get a new one since we moved. They all agree. My dog ate cat food for a week and became very sick. I didn’t know why. Vet asked if he had acess to the cat food and I said yes. He said it’s bad on their bodies. It doesn’t digest as well and runs their organs down over time.

        • Kiesha

Cats who eat dog food exclusively can go blind and/or develop feline dilated cardiomyopathy (heart problem) due to taurine deficiency. All cat foods are fortified with taurine.

Short answer, feed the cats a proper feline diet and the dogs a proper canine diet. 🙂

    • joei

      Gabrielle,
My dog would only eat cat food as well. I honestly didn’t see the problem. Two years into it he got very very sick. If you want to talk about it you can email me happyheart1975@gmail.com

On another note this science diet is definitely not as good as everyone thinks it is, but I would never discourage someone from getting a good deal 🙂

      .

  3. Lisa

Not in my 1/9 SS!! 🙁

    • Gabrielle

mine neither 🙁 you think I’d learn to not get excited about a coupon when it’s probably regional lol! Although I do have a $3/1 cat/dog food coupon that I received in the mail from petsmart that I could give to my aunt and let her know about the deal

      • Jenny

I don’t have this one either. Wish I knew about this I could have found some somewhere. Maybe next time…

    • Lindsay

I didn’t get one either & I’m so bummed! 🙁 This is the kind of food my dog eats! BUT I did find coupons for the “light” & “maintenance” versions on Hills website. They are only $3 off, but if this is the kind of food you buy anyway it’s still a good deal.

    • Lisa

Science Diet food is rated poorly on several dog food websites. Too much brewer’s rice and corn. It’s not something I’d feed to my dogs, but I guess hungry shelter dogs don’t care. 🙂

      • melissa

Same here. Science Diet is not good for dogs.

        • Jenny

It’s full of fillers and corn meal. Not good for them at all. Makes me mad that they advertise themselves as being so good! Makes me even madder that Vets pick up on it for the HUGE Commision they give them. I only give my dog Halo or organic now.

          • joei

I agree. I have become so mad at all of these companies who charge an arm and a leg for “high quality” pet food. This is no different than anything you buy at the grocery store, just the price tag!

Dogs and cats should not be consuming that much corn and by products. However, please don’t get me wrong I understand that if it wasn’t for deals and coupons that some of our furry friends wouldn’t eat. I totally understand people stocking up on this and other pet deals 🙂

        • ferchi

Sorry to heard that about Science Diet, I use it for the last 21 years, and my dogs lives healthy and with wonderful shine hair, 15 years each.
Never had problems with stomach, skin, nothing, really I had the Best experience and I recomend it to all my friends, and them are very happy too

          • tilla ham

it is fine as far as dog food goes, but it just isn’t better than what you buy at walmart with a much higher price tag. my dogs have allergies, such as gluton and grain so they are unable to eat science diet due to the corn and rice fillers. Dog food should be between 60-70 percent meat/protein and 30-40 percent veggies and potatoes…no corn and fillers. It costs me 55 dollars every 3 weeks to feed my 2 purebred dogs a good grain/gluton free food and not everyone can afford this.

  4. michelle

    SS is smartsource

  5. april

Not in mine either.. Orlando Sentinel

  6. Meghan

What a great deal! I have a bunch of this coupon, our ddogs dont eat Science Diet, but I’m sure the County Pet Shelter would LOVE tihs donation! 🙂

    Thanks!!

  7. Karen

Any idea if the cat food is cheap as well? It doesn’t have to be free but if it’s cheap, I would grab some. I have a bunch of cats to feed!

    • Stephanie

No 🙁 The cat food was $10.99 and up. I have a cat myself and wanted to use my coupons but instead I got the dog food for donation.

      • Benee

I saw that if you use your perks card and buy the cat food with fresh step kitty litter you will get an additional $6.50 off

  8. ansley hunt

is there a way to go back and get coupons? just started coupon-ing….

    • Jenny

You can find them on EBay and thecouponclippers.com I have ordered from both before when in a pinch.

      • Miriam

I’ve been trying to figure out a coupon clipping service that is in my region for deal’s like this. It would be wonderful to donate bunch of bags to the local shelter. Anyone know who can get coupons to the Boston area (really southern New Hampshire) in 1-2 days?

  9. Cassie

Woohoo actually have 10 of these AND had plans to go near there today so we will be making an extra stop. Oh and I didn’t actually buy 10 papers, we just got double coupons that week!

    • bre

I wonder if there is a limit to this, also how I wonder how couponing will work at petsmart when you have so many coupons

      • Cassie

I am wondering as well. I have never been there with coupons so I will ask when I go this evening.

      • Stephanie

No limit posted and I used 12 coupons at one store. They still had TONS of food on the shelves too 🙂

      • Stephanie

There was no limit posted and I used 12 at one store, no problem.
There were loads left on the shelf too 🙂

        • Hollie

My local store is very coupon friendly. Actually everytime I go the cashiers always make comments about how much money I’m saving so I can get more stuff for my dog.

  10. Courtney

I don’t have this either! Southern Ohio 🙁

    • Jenny

Just the moblity formula coupons are availble. Thanks for the link anyways.

  11. angel

The $5 coupon was in my 1/2/11 SS, not the 1/9.

    • Lisa

Still no coupon! Darn! 🙁 But thanks for the info anyway!

  12. Teresa

My coupon says it’s only good on the Lite variety but the 4lb bag is included.

  13. Sarah

Wish the sale was longer. We did not get those coupons in our area and not enough time to order any!! Nearest PetSmart is 50 miles away, but worth the drive for free dog food!!!

  14. Lisa

how do I get a coupon?

  15. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

does anyone know if walmart carries this? i was wanting to price match to save a drive if i could 🙂

    • Kiesha

The coupons say “Valid only at PetSmart”.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

thank you; my husband is gone w/my car which has my coupons so i was unable to look at it first 🙂

  16. RH

Do yall ever use coupons that make your stuff free and end up with a zero total? Not sure if the cashiers act goofy when you do this or not??? LOL… Let me know please.

    • Jenny

Yes, this happens alot. I usually get a big ol’ grin from the cashier and alot of questions about how they can do it to.

    • Beth

Unless you live in a state where there is no sales tax you will ALWAYS owe tax. Coupons do not cover sales tax. The least amount I have ever owed is $0.05.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

There isn’t tax on everything though, plus ecb’s, rr’s and ups can cover tax depending on when they put them in.

      • Christina

I live in Oregon, so no sales tax! I have walked out of several stores not having paid a thing! I got a couple funny stares, but a couple good jobs too! I love it! Thanks for the info on this deal, I love to mix a little other food with my dog’s normal food because they get so bored!

    • Jen

I just did this at Dollar General. I had the $3.00 Gain coupons. I bought 4 — which is the limit per coupon wording — and I had $1.00 in overage. The cost of the Gain was $2.75. I made $.25 for each Gain I bought. I also bought one package of Werther’s candy for $1.00 to use up the ‘overage’. My subtotal was $0.00, but I had to pay tax.

      • Marcia

I went to Dollar General and used the Gain coupon there yesterday for one box. They paid me .06. The $3 coupon covered the tax even which the first time I have ever had a MQ applied to the tax as well. I even challenged the cashier telling her I was sure it was a mistake that i did not believe she really wanted to give me 6 cents. She called up the manager and he told her to indeed give me 6 cents. I even offered to buy something else to cover the overage and he said it was not necessary. This was only my second time ever using coupons at Dollar General. My first experience several months ago had not been smooth so I have avoided using my coupons there til trying again yesterday. They will get more of my coupon shopping to see if it goes so well again.

    • RH

Thanks for yalls reply!!! I appreciate it. I am fine with paying the tax to score some free stuff. I just didnt know how the cashiers act when your total comes out so cheap. I bet it’s hit and miss with the cashiers. I know I have noticed that there are so many stores out there where their cashier’s are not trained on their coupon policies. Or, the cashier can not read the coupon correctly. It’s almost humorous sometimes.

  17. Penny

The petsmarts here in TN are great with coupons. I have used 20-30 at a time with no problems!! Hope this helps!!!

  18. michelle

sorry if this is off topic. I have a question regarding coupon usage. A blogger found the Family Size Double Stuffed Oreos at Target for $2.78 and used $1.00/2 Oreo Spring Cookies IP for them. Would that be okay to use that coupon on double stuffed oreos even though it says only for spring cookies? I just want to make sure before I head out to target today.

    https://thekrazycouponlady.com/2011/02/18/target-family-size-oreos-1-78/

    • Jenny

Target has always been tough on me about the coupons I use. Very strict. Probably wouldn’t work. If your going anyways though I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try. Good luck.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No, it’s really not, the coupon is for a specific product, the cashier may not notice but’s it’s wrong to do it anyway.

  19. sartman

can someone tell what is on the front cover of the 1/2 SS insert? thanx in advance!

    • Lisa

I’m in Greenville/Spartanburg SC area. We had 2 SS inserts that week. On the cover of one was Sears Optical on the other was Lean Cuisine. Just as an FYI though, the date is on the crease in the spine of the insert in very small print; however, I always date the cover of each insert with a marker before I file them away. Kinda helps when I’m looking for a particular coupon.

    • ashley s

Its the one with aveeno etc lotions with all those aveeno/jhonsons coupons

  20. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

nice, I found 2 so far.

  21. Kim

Just called my PetSmart in advance. They are allowing me to get 15 bags and use all of my coupons. Psyched! Great donation!!!!!

    • Jenny

      That is so awesome!!!!

  22. LD

Even if you own a dog but they dont or cant eat this [like my 2] grab it and donate to a rescue, animal shelter, or a safe/no kill shelter. They are always in a need for food and the last few years less donations and more animals !

  23. Noel

Really wish I had this coupon!!

    • Lisa

Me too Noel. I have 2 dogs, a golden and a chow mix………and they are almost out of food!! I really could have used these coupons!!!!

  24. Cheryl

No coupons in my 1/2 or 1/9 SS’s. I really wanted to get some food to donate.

  25. Kimberly

For those of you who didn’t recieve the $5.00 off coupon in your SS 1/9, (I didn’t get one either), lol :)…I have great news!! You can sign up at hillspet.com

I just downloaded a buy four get two cans free, $3.00 off any 3oz or lager bag of treats, $8.00 off ANY SIZE bag of dog food, and (2) $3.00 off any dog food…..
So head on over, and get your COUPONS! 🙂

    • sara

the coupons say 15.5 lbs or larger and 30 lbs or larger the only one that says ANY is the $3 off

  26. Pat

There was also a rebate along with the $5 coupons for the weight loss system. I wonder if the lite was on sale and if it would qualify for the $10 rebate. Anybody know?

  27. Tiki Tommy

What a lucky surprise for me , have no dogs but bought 100 of these inserts on Ebay for a couple other coupons so this is a nice bonus. 500 lbs of dog food, will have to find a good home for it.

  28. Ellie

I’m not sure if it’s like this for dogs, but I fed my cat Science Diet for years, and she was always throwing up, getting sick, etc. Finally, her vet recommended that I switch her food because apparently Science Diet is really not good for them. As soon as I did that, my cat stopped throwing up. She has had no major illnesses in the past 2 years. She is now eating Wellness. I found that it costs a little more, but with coupons, not really that much more.

Just a warning that this food, even if it’s free, might end up costing you more in vet bills.

  29. Kelly N.

Wooohooo!!! I had five of these coupons and just got 25lbs of dog food for free! Thanks for the heads-up, Hip2Save!!!!!

  30. Wendi

What is the “non” sale price on this? Wondering if it is worth ordering coupons for.
    TIA

    • Kelly N.

      Wendi,

At my store it was normaly $9.99 (without the sale).

    • christa

      the sale ends monday though

  31. maria

YAY! i have 4!! on my way to get some free dog food! thanks so much!!!

  32. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank you! I was able to get 3. With two new puppies this will come in handy.

  33. kayla

my boys dont eat this kind cause my Pitbull had colitus. So ill give it to my mom for her Chi. Thanks! ever little helps

  34. Heather T

Went to PetCo and they honored the sale and coupons from Pet Smart! I just brought up Hip2save on my iPhone and showed them the blog. Pretty cool!

    • meryl

awesome, my plan exactly- and there is a $10 MIR rebate- go to the Petco website for more Hills coupons [$30 total for cats and dogs] and to print out the MIR- it says purchase has to be from Petco.

      • Heather T

        Thanks! I’ll check it out!

  35. stef

Am I the only one who thinks it’s a bit crazy to be rushing out to PetSmart for this if you don’t even have a dog? I think that donating is wonderful, and I’m sure the shelters would appreciate it (if they are currently feeding their dogs this food — it’s not good on a dog’s digestive system to be constantly switching up his food), but how about leaving some on the shelves for people who actually have dogs and use this brand??

    • meryl

*Free* doesn’t come around very often and the rescues and shelters are in such bad need of donations- every little bit helps when you can! I don’t support shelf clearing but if you have the coupons in your papers or can print some from your computer your animal friends would be so grateful if they could tell you!

    • Tiffany

      Stef, I agree.
Buying 20 bags to donate, when people are making the trip hoping to get some for their own dogs does not make any sense. I am all for donating, but not at the expense of other customers. When you plan on donating free items that is when you take the time to call ahead and order them. Otherwise you are clearing the shelves even in the name of “but… I was donating them….”

      • Tracy

I would rather someone clear out an entire shelf in the name of feeding a hungry animal than myself saving a few bucks to feed my own. This is because if my pets eat this food I would go somewhere else to get it or buy another brand temporary. The fact is I will make sure my pets have food in their belly no matter what it costs. But shelter animals may or may not get to eat. That donated food is what they rely on. God bless all of you that take the time to take food to the shelters. You are good people.

        • Tracy

Sorry I wasn’t being hateful. But please think about those pets tht don’t have someone goin to the store to get them food. Many times I go to the store and the cleaning products and other household items are all out because of the coupons and I miss out and it sucks becuase I want tht deal too! But let’s make an exception in cases like this is all I was trying to say. thanks

          • tilla ham

i don’t think any petsmart was cleared out, I went to mine at 830 pm the last night of the sale and they still had at least 300 bags on a shelf that probably held 1000 bags. they also had two endcaps of it. in a country where 7 million healthy adoptable animals are put to death each year because there are no resources to care for them, I really hope everyone with these coupons rushed out to buy them for donations!

  36. Carol Suzanne

Went yesterday and got three bags free! Yippee…….

  37. Tricia

THANKS for the info! Used my 14 coupons. The cashier was very happy for the low total…only paid $6.13 in tax. My three little “shit”zhus are very happy too!

  38. Lisa Lindsay

Deal worked great in So Cal, got 13 bags! Thanks for the deal.

  39. cynthia

Anyone know if Petsmart will give a raincheck?? Our local store is totally out!

  40. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This deal worked like a charm. Got 4 bags and donated 2. Only paid tax!

  41. Carol's Critter Corner

Thank you so much for the heads up. I have put it on my blog and gave you credit! 🙂

  42. Jillian

Got my 4 bags! $1.96 WOOHOOO
