If you want to help out a public school teacher/classroom here in the United States without spending any money out of pocket, then you definitely want to check out this post! For a limited time, text “Possible” to 77177, reply with your zip code and you will snag a FREE $15 DonorsChoose.org gift code to support a classroom project of your choice!

Once you receive your unique gift code via text message, just head on over here, enter the code, and pick your classroom project. Please keep in mind that only one gift card code is allowed per person. Also note that to avoid receiving Waiting for Superman updates, you will need to text “STOP” once you receive your $15 gift code.

Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. You can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, the materials are delivered to the school. You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.

(Thanks, Katie!)

Wow! This is awesome! I was very fortunate to get a donor through this site site one of my years as a teacher. $15 might not seem like much but it is a huge help. I hope everyone does this because there are never enough donors considering the need out there and the current economy means there’s even less although there’s more of a need. Choose a teacher from one of your local schools. You’ll see how easy it is to select a needy and deserving classroom.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was able to donate to a school where on of my friends works. This is an awesome program.

Will your phone be charged to do this or does it simply count as a text message? I have a project for my classroom and would love to do this! If you need a project it is: http://www.donorschoose.org/mrs.richard

Just a text message. If you pay per text, expect to use 7 including the STOP text and reply. It gives you a promo code in the 4th text that you redeem on the site. This is awesome! I just found a project at a Title I school in my hometown and gave to it.

  6. Home Jobs for Mom

Awesome! I heard about donorschoose.org not too long ago, looked on the website and found out that my oldest son’s teacher had posted a project. My family and I fully funded the project and then the local newspaper did a story about it. It was a lot of fun!

  7. Tee

Oh this would be awesome for my mother’s school. I hope this still works when I get off this afternoon since we can’t get cell phone reception where I work 🙁

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow. I had no idea this site existed. As a result of your post, I learned that a school in my local community has a need for resources in a first grade classroom. I’ve passed along the funding request to our school’s PTA to see if we can do something to help the other school’s teacher with the expressed needs and 2) “adopt” another school/area and send donations on behalf of our children. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Donors Choose is a fabulous organization I highly recommend. I was able to get some amazing supplies for a science project in my classroom that I would never have been able to fund otherwise.

I have been trying to place my order for about 1/2 hour now. I have the code and put it into the proper spot on the form, but every time I click, “Place My Donation,” the screen will not advance. It just refreshes to the same screen. Help!!

    • Sarah

Try choosing a project first. Then say you want to donate $15. At the checkout, put in your code.

This organization is amazing. I teach in a self contained special education classroom and work with students who experience autism and other communication disorders as well as challenging behaviors. If you don’t know of a local teacher who could use your donation please consider mine for an iTouch which would help students in so many ways. Thanks for supporting teachers and thanks Collin for providing this information to your readers. Most of our snacks come from my own pocket which I buy with the deals that Collin posts =)

I think the site is getting slammed – I can’t update anything on there!

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Three years ago my students were the lucky recipients of grants from this amazing organization….we got 10 grants in one year, about $10,000. I am still using those materials today with my current students. This site/organization has made a huge difference at my very poor/Title I school. Please consider funding schools in low income/inner city areas. It makes a HUGE difference to these schools. Many of them have no PTA’s to fund projects and little to no supply money. Many student families do not have money for clothes and food, nevermind school supplies. Thanks for doing all you can to help the students!

  27. Lacie

My cousin works for a low income school in Las Vegas and her kids stay an extra hour after school every day to work on their homework before they even go home. She often posts projects on here and they are always for the stuff that schools usually have but because her school is low income they don’t have access to. Last year for her students she was able to get them brand new recess fitness equipment like jump ropes and hula hoops and that cup stacking game. And another one she did was for a field trip. And then she does one every few months for classroom snacks to get her kids through that extra hour and for the kids who forget their snack at home or don’t have the money to bring one. She is such a dedicated teacher, and I think it really says a lot about Donors Choose that all her kids have done so well and been able to do more things than they would have ever been able to do otherwise. I know it means a lot to her.

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Is there a certain amount that will work in a day/at all? Several friends have posted to help fund my son’s teacher’s project. Now, they are getting a message that no more can be used. Help please.

  29. Leslie L

Is there a maximum a project can receive from this promotion. I have several friends doing it and it says it can’t receive anymore from this promotion. Is that today or ever?

  30. Anne

Yes, there is a limit I’ve heard from several websites that there is a limit of 15. If your friends need a project to apply it to….. I haven’t reached my limit yet and would really appreciate the boost. You are lucky to have friends willing to help out your project.
    My project is below:

    Every little bit helps 🙂
Thanks to everyone out there supporting students and teachers!

Hello, I work in a Title I school near Atlanta. I am trying to get funding to teach Science using the IPAD. Like others, I am very passionate about my students. My last project, the FLIP camera, was so useful that one of my students placed first in the regional tech fair in her grade level for video editing…The kids use everything I get and I don’t ask for anything that I do not need. Thank for looking!!! https://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/373389.-1854547566?active=true

Has anyone been able to get the promo code recently? i’ve put in several different zip codes and all come back saying the promotion has expired. If you have been successful, what zip code have you used?
    thanks a bunch!!!

I, too, am a public school teacher and I LOVE DonorsChoose! What a great organization to bring much-needed materials to students in financially strapped districts. I teach in an inner-city school and would love your support if you happen to still have a gift code.

We are looking to get a document reader in our chemistry class! The school has a 1.6% proficiency for math, 12.4% for english. 77% of the student body is on free or reduced-price lunch. This year, we’re looking to turn things around by making the learning more visual for abstract topics found in chem! We really appreciate your donations and thank you! 🙂

Hey all! If you are looking for a place to use your donors choose deal or just a place to donate, my students are in need of calculators! The school’s proficiency is as follows: Math: 1.6%, English: 12.4%. Percent of the student body on free and reduced-price lunch: 77%. Our students definitely need what resources they can get. Please donate what you can and check out our donors choose site. We really appreciate it! Much thanks 🙂
