I’ve never tried using 2 coupons at DG on BOGO. Has anyone ever had any issues?

    • Bee

It would be the last place I would try it, behind Wal-Mart even.

Love the Dollar General Markets, but they VERY cautiously accept coupons.

      • lmadden

        AGREED!!!!

    • kjd_03

I tried at DG in Urbana, IL and they wouldn’t let me do it. 🙁

      • Katie

Hey! Are you there for college?

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m here for college! I was gonna try at dollar general today, but glad I read this first 🙁

          • Katie

I’ll be there this fall for college! Maybe we can go shopping together ;D

            • Lina

yay! None of my friends are into couponing but it’s so fun 🙂 and ps – you’re going to love it here! 🙂

  2. Deb

Nkki, our chihuahua, thanks you. 🙂

  3. lmadden

Theircomputer system is so messed up I usually just skip going there. Plus you never get the same answer from one store to another. Is there anyone who’s had a good experience using coupons there?

  4. Andrea

I always have problems using coupons at Dollar General. Their computer never scans the coupons right and it either ends up taking forever to check out, or then end up just telling me I can’t use them.

  5. Amber

My DG doesnt take IPC’s I hate this but can’t blame them 🙁 I tried with the$1 off bleach last time.
Does anyone know if Wal-Mart price matches BOGO sales??

    • Wendy @ Ramblings from the Sunshine State

No, Walmart doesnt PM BOGO, percentage off or anything like that. They call them “gimmicks”.

      • scmomof2

Walmart will price match BOGO as long as there is a price listed in the ad. This is part of their new coupon policy.

        • Samantha Booker

Yes, they will PM BOGO now, but I don’t think Target does.

    • zee

No, they don’t accept BOGOs or dollars off price matching.

  6. Brand

I also have a $1 off coupon from a previous insert (not sure which one but it expires 4/30). Maybe they would take one printable and one regular coupon without a fuss!

  7. creativecoupons

Wondering if it would be possible to take this B1G1F ad to Walmart for price match to avoid the coupon hassle at Dollar General?

    • shannon

nope. walmart doesnt price match b1g1

  8. thriftyamy

Watch the Expiration Dates on these packages when buying them from Dollar General.

  9. Toni S.

I have quit going to DG because of their inconsistent coupon policies and sale prices. We have 3 stores and they never agree on ad prices, even when I take the ad in with me. This I can’t ad match, but when I can, I do rather than go to DG.

  10. Rhonda Shaw

I haven’t tried this yet.. but with Walmart’s new coupon policy .. we should be able to do this BOGO sale because it has a price on it and Walmart policy says :

    Competitors’ coupons:

Buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price

And there is a price of $2 in the ad!

But I’m not sure if we can use 2- $1 coupons .. may just be able to use 1

    • Miriam

I don’t get my DG ad’s in the mail or the newspaper but there’s a local one. Do you know Walmart’s policy on accepting sale prices that are printed out?

      • Lela

If you have Sunday’s paper, check inside the Smart Source coupon insert, my Dollar General ad was stuck inside the coupon insert, and had the Pedigree sale on the last page.

  11. shellb

I have been told that walmart will price match bogos as longs as the ad states the price.

I went on DG’s website and their coupon policy states they do accept manufacturer’s coupons. I have copied and pasted the policy below. The link to this is https://www.dollargeneral.com/OurStores/Pages/CouponPolicy.aspx.

    Coupon Policy
    Updated 11/5/10

Dollar General is pleased to accept Manufacturer’s Coupons and Dollar General Store Coupons at any of our more than 9,000 stores. These coupons come from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, newspapers, magazines, print-at-home (internet), direct mail, product packaging, and in-store coupon boxes.

Our coupon requirements are as follows:

Dollar General will accept coupons, including Internet Coupons, provided they meet these requirements:
    1. Coupons must be original (no photocopies)
    2. Coupons must have a scan-able barcode
    3. Coupons must have an expiration date
    4. Coupons may be used only on products sold at Dollar General, and must match exactly to the item as it is packaged and sold at Dollar General.
    5. Coupons must clearly say “Manufacturers Coupon” or “Dollar General Store Coupon”

Dollar General will NOT accept the following:
    1. Manufacturer’s coupons that do not scan, or Dollar General Store Coupons with an invalid promotional code
    2. Expired Coupons
    3. Coupons for products not sold at Dollar General
    4. FREE Item coupon if printed from the Internet, unless a purchase is required (example: a “buy one, get one free” is acceptable).
    5. Coupons from other retailers or coupons that may be used only at other retailers

In addition, unless the coupons state otherwise, you may use multiple coupons in one transaction. You may also use a Dollar General coupon along with a Manufacturer’s coupon for the same item, as long as neither coupon states otherwise.

    • Tara

      You beat me to it!

    • Melissa

Sadly, the DG employees interpret the policy in a variety of twisted ways and you just can’t ever seem to “win” the battle, even with the policy in your hand.

  13. dawnkemmerlin

I personally know one of their district managers. If I have that problem, I’ll just promptly call him. That’s a bunch of BS with them giving people a hard time about coupons. That’s just not right!

    • kidsallgone

I went there last month (?) when there was a coupon for $3 off a Gain product.
I went to the register with a box of Gain fabric softeners and they told me that the register wouldn’t accept the coupon. I asked why and they said, “I don’t know.”

So I asked for the manager and the manager said it was because the item is less that the coupon (I believe it was like 15 cents less). I told them that I didn’t want any change, so could they price adjust the coupon down to the price of the fabric sheets and she told me no. I said, “So you would rather lose a sale, than adjust the price of the item down about 15 cents?!”” She just said, “Sorry. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Ended up buying it at Family Dollar where it was priced at $3.00.
Sure wish I had me some more of those coupons. Anyone know where?
      thanks for the replies 🙂

  14. Erika

I agree very much with you guys on DG and their issues! I went to three different ones today just to find the actual sale. Apparently, they don’t all have the same sales…..WOW!! Then when I did find the one that had the sale, they tried to tell me that because I had BOGO I couldn’t use the coupons. Then the “head” lady said that they didn’t take internet coupons, I was so annoyed. Long story short, finally I guess she was about to override the price and the cashier was finally able to scan the coupons….so there is hope! Liberty, my chihuahua says thanks for the awesome score of dog treats for $.16!!!

  15. Jackie

I used mine today, no problem. Our local store also gives overage. 🙂 Used the overage from KY to buy some milk!

  16. Emily

Worked for me in Bowling Green, KY! Only had to pay for tax! our puppies thank you!

  17. Bel

I’m so relieved to hear that I’m not the only one having issues with “these people.”

I tried this deal with a total of 8 bags, 2 – $2 off and 5 – $1 off coupons (all from the newspaper,) and the cashier had to stop and see if she could get permission for this “deal.” I thought there was a problem with using a coupon on a free B1G1F item. Unfortunately, we didn’t even get that far! They had a problem with all of the coupons period, saying, “You are only allowed one coupon per purchase.” And I politely told them (again) that there were 8 bags and 7 coupons – each separate from the other. “No,” he continued, “you’re only allowed one. I told him that this was the only store I knew of that acted this way; I asked for my coupons back; and left the store – never looking back, not even to tell my 2 boys to come with me we were leaving…poor babies, they so wanted their flutes, too. I left everything behind.

  18. ashley

never had a prob with q’s at DG. i goofed up and was only able to print 1 q, but i will use it along with my .75 Fantastick cleaners q. they are on sale for 1.50, so that makes them .75….thats my fav kitchen cleaner!

  19. kayla

I hate everyone is having so much trouble with their local Dollar General Stores. They are super friendly at my store and know me when I walk in the door. I was able to get this deal no problem at all. However the manager did tell me as we were chating that their registers would not except buy one get one free coupons but this deal was buy one get one free in store and you then used two $1 off coupons.. 🙂 ****** I plan this next saturday on getting 5 Tide 40 oz bottles of Laundry Detergent for $5 plus tax.. I have 5 $3 off coupons from my P&G paper 4/3 and a in store print out of $5 off my $25 dollar purchase.******
