If you are a woman fighting cancer and/or have a female loved one that is fighting cancer (and are currently under cancer treatment), then you’ll want to take note of an awesome nonprofit organization called Cleaning for a Reason. The Cleaning for A Reason Foundation offers FREE professional housecleaning and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer – any type of cancer. This foundation partners with professional residential maid services who are insured and bonded…these maid services have agreed to take 2 patients at a time and offer four free general cleanings – once a month for four months as a way to give back to their community.

If you want to apply for this service, here is what you need to do…

(1) Check to see if there is a participating maid service in your geographical area by clicking the locations tab here (click the state in which you reside on the pink U.S. map or if you reside in Canada, click the Canadian map).

(2) If you are a qualified cancer patient, fill out the online application here. Please note that the application process opens at Noon CST Monday through Friday and only a maximum of 50 applications are accepted each day. When you submit, the online process will inform you if a maid service covers your area. In large metropolitan areas, some maid services limit the distance they will travel to the area they normally serve.

(3) If your registration is successful and there is a partner in your area, some additional questions will be asked and you will be prompted to agree to a service waiver.

(4) The final step in the registration process will be to have your doctor fax verification that you are currently in cancer treatment. The fax number is listed on the final page of the application process. A record of your diagnosis or any specific medical information is NOT required; all that is needed is a note from your doctor’s office stating your name and that you are under cancer treatment will suffice.

(5) Cleaning For A Reason will contact the maid service in your area on your behalf. The maid service will then contact you directly to schedule your cleanings.

How can YOU help support this organization?

* Make a one-time donation
* Make a monthly contribution of $10-$50 monthly
* Sponsor a Maid-Service for $30 per month or $60 per month
* Shop the Cleaning for a Reason Online Store

Have you ever used this organization? Do you know of any other organization that offers a similar service for cancer patients?

(Thanks, Shirley!)

    Thanks so much for sharing this! I have a friend, a wonderful wife, mother & friend, who has been struggling with cancer. Unfortunately I do not live close enough to help her out with these types of tasks. I am definitely going to share this and will be making a donation as well!

    I was referred to this organization last year while I was going through chemotherapy and radiotion therapy. It was a AWESOME for me and my family. It was hard for me to rest after treatment knowing that my house was a disaster from 2 small childern, 2 cats, a dog and a husband! I highly recommend this company!

    This has left me speechless. My grandmother died of lung and bone cancer after successfully fighting off an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer. Luckily she stayed with my mother in a fully furnished suite at my mother’s home where she was close to us whenever she needed something.
    If she had been alone, I can’t imagine. Being in a nice clean home is so relaxing. 🙂

    A year ago, I went to a women’s film festival that sponsored this company. They did a short presentation and all I can say is wow, what an amazing group! They really make a difference in people’s lives.

    I would have loved something like this when my daughter was undergoing treatment for three years. — Weeks on end in the hospital, long days at the clinic, coming home to a mess and nothing in the fridge. It would have been nice if a “friend” or neighbor even offered to pick up a gallon of milk. Cancer changes everything.

      You’re right. Cancer does change everything. My husband was diagnosed last summer with Multiple Myeloma (the same kind of cancer that Geraldine Ferraro had). While I think this program is great for women with cancer, it would also be of great benefit to anyone who is a caregiver for someone with cancer. Cancer sucks.

    Thanks for sharing this. Fortunately we haven’t been in this situation but I know several who have. I have passed this along to everyone via my FB page. What an amazing organization.

    It really is a great organization!! So glad to have ran across the article in the Reader’s Digest. I know two women who are fighting cancer.

    As a breast cancer survivor, I can tell you this would be a wonderful service. I remember how draining it was to try to keep up with everything as a single parent while going through surgery and radiation therapy.

    This is great! My mom is a two time cancer survivor. This last bought of cancer (which she is still in treatment for) took her left eye. She has a hard time doing very much right now and I try to help out as much as possible but it’s hard with two kids and a family of my own. This would be great for her and my dad. I’m gonna try to get online tomorrow and fill out the app. Thanks for sharing!

    I have a friend with three young boys who’s lost her 41yo husband a few months ago from a 7yr battle with cancer. I heard of this opportunity, through someone who was involved with this organization, at church and was able to contact someone to help them in the last couple months of his life. It was such a blessing! Certainly an organization that is worthy of our financial support!

    This is amazing! My mom was just diagnosed with liver cancer last month and she could really, really, really use this. Thank you SOOO much for posting this.

    A friend of mine at work is going through treatments for breast cancer right now, and she uses this service. She is very grateful for them, and knowing she is not such a burden to her family and friends to help out all of the time.

    Good for you Collin! This is a wonderful thing to share.

    I filled out an application for my cousin who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and their response is very quick. What a great group of thoughtful people:)

    Also, I wanted to make your readers aware of another organization that helps people with cancer. There is an organization called Imerman’s Angels that pairs cancer survivors with peoeple fighting the same type of cancer currently. This helps the person currently fighting the disease to speak with someone who really relates to what they are going through. Its a priceless resource to have. https://www.imermanangels.org/
