UPDATE: Sorry for the confusion! 🙁 I assumed because of the picture that the plush and book were sold together for the $2.50 price. Well, come to find out, it looks like they are in fact sold separately. However, this does still seem like a great deal as these books are currently being sold for $10.79 on Amazon, so you are getting a huge savings!

Currently, Kohls.com is offering up a great deal on these adorable Kohl’s Cares children’s book OR plush collections! They are priced at just $2.50 – down from $5! Even sweeter, you can score FREE shipping by using coupon code SHIP4FREE during checkout!

*Note: These Kohl’s Care items do NOT qualify for any other promo codes. However, if you find additional items to purchase (other than the Kohl’s Care items), you can use coupon code SPRING15 to save an additional 15%. Expired! 🙁

i think that the 15% off expired because I tried to use it and the 20% off about an hour ago and it said expired.

    • Collin

      Thanks… just updated the post!

This code does work I used it on my order, it won’t take it off the books but it will any other items you purchase.

        • Patti

FYI…This code only works in you use your Kohl’s charge.

  2. Amanda

It looks to me like this is just for the book, it says “Plush and book each sold separately.” Am I correct?

    • Collin

Yep… I am so sorry about that! 🙁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Guess I will find out when it gets here! I can’t tell on the description. I like the books and the plushy either way. Will make a good gift regardless. And still not a bad price with free shipping!

      • J

That code is only good if you have a Kohl’s card.

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

book and plush sold seperately….and there are no plush available =(

  4. Bonnie

Just a heads up – it is just for the book. In the details it states that the plush is sold separately – but I’m assuming it’s sold out. $2.50 is still a great price for a book!

  5. Eli

Just a thought: these sets would make a great gift at holiday season for the Toys for Tots or similar campaigns. What a nice, meaningful but appropriate gift for a child!

  6. Alicia

Is it just the book? Or does the stuffed animal come with the book?

  7. Emily

This is the book only! Not a set! Almost jumped on it, but oh well, it’s good to save a few bucks. 🙂

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn, wish I would of read that its only the book before making this purchase. Thought it was both and ordered 2 of each for birthdays and extra xmas gifts. Poop!

    • Collin

I’m sorry, Andrea! 🙁 I should have taken the time to read the full description.

    • Kristen

You can call and Kohl’s will cancel for you, but I have bought the Kohls Cares for Kids books there often and they are really nice 🙂

  9. liz

i believe it is just the book–which at 2.50 is still a great price! the description states book & plush priced seperately.

  10. Beth

Thanks so much — I was able to order each one! I will tuck those away for Christmas for my youngest daughter!

  11. pattie

Ordered two each for gifts. Nice.

  12. Valerie

These are fantastic, going to save them for Christmas when we adopt a family and Toys for Tots. Thank you Collin!

I purchased 2 kitchen towels, 1 figertip towel, both books, a pair of mens Skechers, & a set of 4 Easter eggs for $39.87 shipped. Not bad! Thanks Collin!

    • Sharon

this code will not work on these items – but i’m sure we can use it on other deals.

      • Julieanne28

No it won’t work on the Kohl’s care items but it did take off 15% for all the other items I purchased 🙂

    • Sharon

this code will not work on these items – but i’m sure we can use it on other deals.

      • J

Kohl’s card required to use that code.

        • Julieanne28

Well oops I didn’t realize that.. I always use mine.. sorry!

    • Julie

      Hi Julieanne,

Thanks for the code! I got a set of PJ’s for my toddler. Thanks for the extra savings. I’m going to check the store for the plush. Were you sent a coupon or how did you get the extra 15%? Collin, thanks for the post I got both books too.

      • Julieanne28

The code was posted on retailmenot .com. I always check there for codes before I place any online orders. I did forget to go through ebates, but I normally do that as well.

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

These two books sell between $8 and $10 in amazon, Thanks Collin very good deal

    • Collin

Oh great to hear! That makes me feel a heck of a lot better! 🙂

  15. Renee

I work at Kohl’s and these are items are sold separately in the stores, I would assume it’s the same on the website. $2.50 for the books is still a great price and 100% of the profits for all Kohl’s Cares for Kids merchandise goes to children’s charities.

  16. Rachel

Yes, I also tried to use it and it said it expired, too.

  17. megan

    Use ship4free code!

  18. Cally

This is for the BOOK ONLY. I just ordered this and then noticed it was for the book only. I don’t think it’s the best deal on books 50% off.

    • emilytwinmom

These books are expensive no matter where you see them, this is a great price for them!!!

  19. Jessica

SO excited to get a copy of this! Someone let us borrow their copy for our 15 month old son, and his favorite page is the page with the gorilla… You can ask him, “Where’s your gorilla book?” and he’ll go find this book, then open to the exact page. Too funny!

  20. Kristina

I didn’t realize that it didn’t include the plush til after I put my order through but irregardless, that’s still a great deal and a great price! My kids are too old for Eric Carle but I thought these would make great gifts for younger children or for a baby shower.

    • Anonymous

      *regardless 🙂

  21. Aliya

I picked up 4 books which I’ll use for birthday presents in the coming year. 😀

  22. Allison

A little sad I didn’t read these comments before I got excited and placed the order for my son’s bday. 🙁 No plushy = the book is going back. We buy all of my son’s books used for less than a $1 each, so this to me isn’t a great deal without the plushy. :-/ Oh well…maybe next time!

    • Collin

      Sorry about that, Allison. 🙁

      • Allison

Its ok Collin. We all should be reading the fine print before getting too excited!!! LoL!

    • Kristen

Just call Kohls and they will cancel the order.

      • Allison

Yea, I’ll saw where I can do that. Will have to when I get off work.

        • Kristen

By then it may be too late to cancel, you have to do it pretty quickly usually

  23. Vanessa

Thanks for this great deal Collin! I love having these books for my kids!

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

oh darn! I wish I would have read the comments first. I just ordered both as gifts, but thought the plush came with it. Well, I guess it’s still a good price for the books and I will put them together for a gift.

  25. LTibbs

Boy it sure seemed like the plushy came with it! I can see why you thought so Collin. I got 2 but will not be expecting the plushy now that I read the comments. Still awesome deal on fantastic books for my gift closet! Thanks Collin you are great!!

  26. Kristen

It’s a nice deal without the plush, the books are high quality and I never see Eric Carle books at second-hand stores (where I usually get books). My daughter has too many stuffed animals anyway, but you can never have too many books =D

  27. Alli

    Is this in store too?

  28. kelly

I just called to cancel my order because I thought it was for both items! But the guy assisting me told me that BOTH items ARE included! I don’t know that I’m convinced…and will not be happy if the books arrive alone. :=/ but that is what the Rep told me at least!

    • Kristen

      Hmm yeah I think he’s mistaken 🙂

      • J

They are sold separately for $5 each.

    • Anonymous

both items are not included.. i have ordered these b4 at the full price. the plus is bought seperate. the hardcover books and plushes are worth the full price at $5 to me i have almost all of the books and plushes. SO 2.50 is a STEAL!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I ordered 2 of each and will be very pleasantly surprised if the plushes come too! If not, it’s still a good deal for the books. I’ll give 2 to my daughter and combine the other two to make a nice gift for the next birthday party or baby shower we go to.

  29. Michelle

    Thank you Collin!!

  30. Erin

Thanks, Collin! These are great for my first grade classroom!

  31. J

    NEW9164 – 10% off

These books are great! I’m not sure where you can get a brand new, big, hardcover book for this inexpensive. Yes, the stuffed animals are separate. My son’s great grandma always buys him the book and the matching animal. He loves them.

  32. kaiti

thank you! my son’s 2nd birthday is coming up june 23rd and i love getting him books for his bday!! He doesn’t need any more stuffed animals anyways! lol

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That’s my daughters 2nd birthday too!

  33. kaiti

thank you! my son’s 2nd birthday is coming up june 23rd and i love getting him books for his bday!! He doesn’t need any more stuffed animals anyways! lol

  34. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I can’t believe you are all complaining that these books don’t come with the plush toy!!! Seriously!! We should all be thankful Collin even found and posted this fab deal! $2.50 for a Eric Carle book is an awesome price!! Can we say ungrateful??!?!?!?! WOW!!! Thanks Collin for all you do 😉 I think this is an awesome deal and will be a great gift!!

  35. Liz

If you like Eric Carle than you will NOT buy this book. He doesn’t get one penny from the sale of these highly discounted books and it just makes people not buy one from a legitimate bookstore. Publishers have a clause in their contracts that if they sell the book for lower than X amount then the author does not get his percentage. It would be one thing if Mr. Carle agreed to let his books be sold so cheaply but he has absolutely no say. It’s just not fair to these authors.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I think the proceeds go to charity…I’m sure he doesn’t mind 😉

    • Kristen

Since Kohl’s Cares for Kids is a CHARITY, I’m betting he agreed to it. The original price is only $5.

    • Lacie

The proceeds do, however, go to a charity, and Eric Carle has been selling books long enough now that I’m sure he is aware of this procedure.

    • Leigh-Anne

Give me a break! Books go on sale all the time, now that is wrong?? I hate to say it but I am sure Eric Carle is not suffering.. I have bought some of his books for $15- $35. I am sure he made PLENTY of profit on those ones. What should we all do, boycott Kohls for putting a clearance price some of his books? What a joke! Sheesh some people always want to ruin it for others. Try and remember this when there a good deal on something else that you are buying. But make sure and don’t buy it!! Because maybe the company isn’t making the profit they expected to make on the product.

    • ali mae

Well, I’m not sure, but 100% percent of the net profit (not procedes) may not mean Eric Carl doesn’t receive royalties. In fact, I’m positive that he (or whoever holds the copyright) has been dealt with fairly. Kohl’s may have paid him a fee to be able to sell these books, or maybe he’s donated those rights to charity for a certain selling period. Obviously, the price of manufacturing the book is also taken out of the donation. No one should be hurting here.

  36. caseymg

Hooray just got one of each! Desperate for new books! Thanks!

  37. Tara

Thanks so much Collin! I love Eric Carle and $2.50 is a great price for his books!! I am so excited! My little boy will LOVE them! And I didn’t even have to leave my house! Thanks!!

  38. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Are these the full size books, or the miniature hardover ones?

    • Julieanne28

They are full size books & all proceeds go to children’s charities.

  39. Marie

Liz : It is safe to say that Eric Carle is NOT going to care that he does not profit from the sale of these books. He has probably made millions off his books anyways not to mention he probably gets royalites from ALL that is connected to a hungry caterpillar, be it books, games, plush toys or even clothing! So for those of us who would rather pay 2.50 instead of 10+ dollars, good for you!

  40. Heather

darn! It just said Sold out!

  41. shoehoard

I read on amazon that the age range for these books is 4-8. What is the realistic age for giving these books to a child? I’ve got a pretty smart and advanced niece and nephew in kindergarten and first grade.

    • caseymg

I read all kinds of books to my now 8 month old daughter. I don’t really pay attention to what they say. I’ve been reading 3-4 books a night to her for 3 months. She even helps turn the pages now ha!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Definetly give it to them now!! Books are the gift that keep on giving 😉 and if they can’t read it I’m sure their mom/dad would love to read it to them!!!

    • Tara

I am not sure.. but the books are a very easy read.. You could always get them for their parents to read to them. I got them for my 17 month old because I read to him every night before bed. I bet they would be able to read them by themselves pretty soon, especially the first grader. 🙂 But maybe someone else with kids their age will respond and be able to help!

  42. Heather

The Grouchy Ladybug is sold out! Booo hooo. I still bought the Mixed Up Chameleon for my son. Great price and I know my son will love the book. Thanks, Colin.

  43. Jo-Ann

We purchased the Very Hungry Caterpillar hardback book and plush at a Kohls store for $5 each and the book is full-sized and the plush is huge. We gave them together as a gift for a couple with a newborn and they loved it!

Don’t know the financial arrangement between Carle & Kohls, only that 100% of the net profits are donated to children health & education causes around the nation, so I assume that neither Carle nor Kohls makes any profit from these items.

  44. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    man, I missed out!!!

  45. Bridget B.

I buy the books and matching plush for my kids each year for Christmas at regular price. They are great hardcover books and very nice stuffed animals if you get a chance to pick up both, usually the popular ones are sold out of either the book or the plush but I always grab the books when I can. I jumped and bought two, great deal!

  46. emilytwinmom

Thank you for posting about this!! We have bought a bunch of Kohl’s Cares books over the years, and already have the ladybug book. Our twins will be so excited to see the chameleon book too!! I’m going to save it for a special occasion, thank you thank you!!!

  47. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

We love books. 🙂 $5 for the hardcover and $5 for the plush is an awesome deal–so $2.50 is a steal! The books are full-size/hardcover and the plushes are always a nice size, not itty bitty at all! I always check them out at Kohls and have bought a lot of them. LOVE Eric Carle books, but mine are too old now. 🙁

  48. ali mae

UGh. had 3 of the ladybug book in my cart, and by the time I ran upstairs to get my card, they sold out. Oh well, got 3 of the chameleon book. . . the only thing left as of now. Great for all of the b-day parties my kids get invited to.

    • ali mae

Not to sound ungrateful. Thanks, so much for the post!

    • ali mae

Not to sound ungrateful. Thanks, so much for the post!

  49. Kim

If anyone ever makes it to Western Massachusetts, Eric Carle has a beautiful Museum here in Amherst, MA. It’s filled with a changing array of Picture Book Art from artists around the world ( I believe)and of course a ton of his original works. A really great place, very kid friendly, but will bring out the kid in all of us!
