UPDATE: Sorry, all! 🙁 They appear to be having issues with the codes today. So I would suggest calling 1.866.REDBOX3 (1.866.733.2693) and they should be able to issue you a new code. (Thanks, Fran!)

Just wanted to remind all of you that you can snag a FREE DVD rental from RedBox today, May 12th. Just head on over here, “like” Redbox (if you haven’t already), and you’ll snag a unique code that will be valid for a kiosk rental from Midnight CST through 11:59PM tonight 5/12 only.

Fine Print: Code is valid for a redbox kiosk rental beginning between 12AM and 11:59PM on 5/12/2011. Daily rental fee is $1.50 for Blu-rayTM Discs, $2 for video games and $1 for standard DVDs. Code is valid for a $1 discount on the standard daily rental fee the first night of rental only. Code not valid for items reserved online. Your payment card (necessary for rental) will be charged the balance of the daily rental fee for a Blu-ray Disc or video game for the first night of rental, if applicable, and will be charged the applicable daily rental fee plus applicable tax for each night you do not return your rental by 9:00 pm local time (at the redbox kiosk) every subsequent night after the first rental night. Only 1 code per rental transaction. Code applies to only 1 item per rental transaction

(Thanks for the reminder, Fran!)

Thanks for the reminder. It’s been a busy week and I have my code but had totally forgotten about it! 😉

  2. Melissa

I just tried my code at two locations and it didn’t work. I did shoot Redbox an email though so we shall see.

      Same thing happened to me.

They are having a problem with the codes today. Call 1.866.REDBOX3 (1.866.733.2693), they will issue you a new code, that’s what they did for me. The new code is good for 45 days.

Me too…i called and within 5 minutes i had a new code good for 45 days! I have exams this week and no time for a movie but i could not pass up a great deal 🙂 now i have time to study and a free movie for after exams 🙂

Thanks, Fran for the info. I was going to post on Redbox’s FB wall. I went to 2 locations and it didn’t work. I was hesitant to even try as I’ve already used that code in the past. I called Redbox and was given a new code good for 45 days.

I love Redbox!! All the free codes and the offers on Groupon I am catching up on all the movies I have wanted to see but am to cheap to pay $10 to go see them in the theater.

Can someone explain how Redbox works? Do you just enter the code and get the movie for free? Do you have to return the movie to the same kiosk? Sorry for all of the questions.

    • fran

Tee, you need to enter a credit card number, so that if you keep the rental longer than one day, they will charge you. Once you enter your CC #, you pick your movie, enter the code, and the movie will pop out of the machine. You have till, I believe, 9:00 P.M. the next night, to return the movie. You won’t be charged as long as you bring the movie back. If you keep the movie longer than one night, you will be charged $1.00 plus tax, a day. You can’t return the movie to ANY Redbox, it doesn’t have to be the same one from which you rented it.
If you have a cell phone, go to redbox.com and sign up and you will get a free code the first Monday of every month. I think you also get a free code for signing up online. HTH!

It says on the RedBox that you can rent and return to any location. I rented one in my town (outside of Orlando) and returned it the next day in Orlando with no problems. You will also need to enter in your email address and it will send you a receipt when you rent it and when its returned. But the Redbox policy may differ where you are so look for a sign on there about returning.

          Thanks so much Tuesdae!!

        Thanks so much, Fran!!

The first time you do the redbox, make sure there isn’t a line behind you! lol It took me a few minutes! It isn’t hard, just a few steps. You start by hitting the rent with a code option, and then you go from there. After putting in the code, you will be able to choose which movie you want – bluerays cost more – and then you will have to use a credit card to get it. It won’t charge you when you use a code! And it will ask you for your zip code and email address. You can take it back to ANY kiost – I have 4 in my area and I almost never take them back to the same one. You will get email confirmation both when you get the movie and when you return it. BUT, be sure and get it back by 9 the next night or you will be charged. My hubby was suppose to take one back for me one night, and he didn’t do it right away. He got it in the box about 9:20, and we got charged for it.

      Thanks Marilynn!

  8. Katie

I rented a movie with my code. No problem!

  9. jill

The code I got 4T4HHJ5 worked twice (2 different credit cards). So if your code doesn’t work, try this one. HTH

    IT worked for me! “DVDONME”

  11. LFleegs
